1 Samuel 21

1 David donc s'en alla à Nob, vers Ahimélec le Sacrificateur; et Ahimélec tout effrayé courut au devant de David, et lui dit: D'où vient que tu es seul, et qu'il n'y a personne avec toi?

Then came Dauid to Nob, to Ahimelech the Priest, and Ahimelech was astonied at the meeting of Dauid, and saide vnto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

2 Et David dit à Ahimélec le Sacrificateur: Le Roi m'a commandé quelque chose, et m'a dit: Que personne ne sache rien de l'affaire pour laquelle je t'envoie, ni de ce que je t'ai commandé; et j'ai assigné à mes gens un certain lieu.

And Dauid saide to Ahimelech the Priest, The King hath commanded mee a certaine thing, and hath sayd vnto me, Let no man know whereabout I sende thee, and what I haue commanded thee: and I haue appointed my seruants to such and such places.

3 Maintenant donc qu'as-tu en main? donne-moi cinq pains, ou ce qui se trouvera.

Nowe therefore if thou hast ought vnder thine hande, giue me fiue cakes of bread, or what commeth to hand.

4 Et le Sacrificateur répondit à David, et dit: Je n'ai point en main de pain commun, mais du pain sacré; mais tes gens se sont-ils au moins gardés des femmes?

And the Priest answered Dauid, and saide, There is no common bread vnder mine hande, but here is halowed bread, if the yong men haue kept themselues, at least from women.

5 Et David répondit au Sacrificateur, et lui dit: Qui plus est, depuis que je suis parti, il y a déjà quatre jours, les femmes ont été éloignées de nous, et les vaisseaux de mes gens ont été saints, et ce [pain est] tenu pour commun, vu qu'aujourd'hui on en consacre [de nouveau pour le mettre] dans les vaisseaux.

Dauid then answered the Priest, and sayde vnto him, Certainely women haue bene separarate from vs these two or three dayes since I came out: and the vessels of the yong men were holy, though the way were prophane, and how much more then shall euery one be sanctified this day in the vessell?

6 Le Sacrificateur donc lui donna le pain sacré; car il n'y avait point là d'autre pain que les pains de proposition qui avaient été ôtés de devant l'Eternel, pour remettre du pain chaud le jour qu'on avait levé l'autre.

So the Priest gaue him halowed bread: for there was no bread there, saue the shewe bread that was taken from before the Lord, to put hote bread there, the day that it was taken away.

7 Or il y avait là un homme d'entre les serviteurs de Saül, retenu en ce jour-là devant l'Eternel; [cet homme] avait nom Doëg, Iduméen le plus puissant de [tous] les pasteurs de Saül.

(And there was the same day one of the seruants of Saul abiding before the Lord, named Doeg the Edomite, the chiefest of Sauls heardmen)

8 Et David dit à Ahimélec: Mais n'as-tu point ici en main quelque hallebarde, ou quelque épée? car je n ai point pris mon épée ni mes armes sur moi, parce que l'affaire du Roi était pressée.

And Dauid said vnto Ahimelech, Is there not here vnder thine hand a speare or a sworde? for I haue neither brought my sworde nor mine harnesse with me, because the Kings businesse required haste.

9 Et le Sacrificateur dit: Voici l'épée de Goliath le Philistin, que tu tuas en la vallée du chêne, elle est enveloppée d'un drap, derrière l'Ephod; si tu la veux prendre pour toi, prends-la; car il n'y en a point ici d'autre que celle-là. Et David dit: Il n'y en a point de pareille; donne-la-moi.

And the Priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistim, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is wrapt in a cloth behinde the Ephod: if thou wilt take that to thee, take it: for there is none other saue that here: And Dauid sayd, There is none to that, giue it me.

10 Alors David se leva, et s'enfuit ce jour-là de devant Saül, et s'en alla vers Akis, Roi de Gath.

And Dauid arose and fled the same day from the presence of Saul, and went to Achish the King of Gath.

11 Et les serviteurs d'Akis lui dirent: N'est-ce pas ici ce David, [qui est comme le] Roi du pays? n'est-ce pas celui duquel on s'entrerépondait aux danses, en disant: Saül en a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille?

And the seruants of Achish said vnto him, Is not this Dauid the King of the land? did they not sing vnto him in daunces, saying, Saul hath slayne his thousand, and Dauid his ten thousande?

12 Et David mit ces paroles en son cœur, et eut une fort grande peur à cause d'Akis, Roi de Gath.

And Dauid considered these wordes, and was sore afraide of Achish the King of Gath.

13 Et il changea sa contenance devant eux, et contrefit le fou entre leurs mains; et il marquait les poteaux des portes, et faisait couler sa salive sur sa barbe.

And hee changed his behauiour before them, and fayned him selfe mad in their handes, and scrabled on the doores of the gate, and let his spettel fall downe vpon his beard.

14 Et Akis dit à ses serviteurs: Voici, ne voyez-vous pas que c'est un homme insensé? pourquoi me l'avez-vous amené?

Then said Achish vnto his seruants, Lo, ye see the man is beside him selfe, wherefore haue ye brought him to me?

15 Manqué-je d'hommes insensés, que vous m'ayez amené celui-ci pour faire l'insensé devant moi? celui-ci entrerait-il en ma maison!

Haue I neede of mad men, that ye haue brought this fellowe to play the mad man in my presence? shall he come into mine house?
