1 Hiram aussi Roi de Tyr envoya ses serviteurs vers Salomon, ayant appris qu'on l'avait oint pour Roi en la place de son père; car Hiram avait toujours aimé David.
And Hiram king of Tyre sendeth his servants unto Solomon, for he heard that they had anointed him for king instead of his father, for Hiram was a lover of David all the days;
2 Et Salomon envoya vers Hiram pour lui dire:
and Solomon sendeth unto Hiram, saying,
3 Tu sais que David mon père n'a pu bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel son Dieu, à cause des guerres qui l'ont environné, jusqu'à ce que l'Eternel a eu mis ses [ennemis] sous ses pieds.
'Thou hast known David my father, that he hath not been able to build a house to the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars that have been round about him, till Jehovah's putting them under the soles of his feet.
4 Et maintenant l'Eternel mon Dieu m'a donné du repos tout alentour, et je n'ai point d'ennemis, ni d'affaire fâcheuse.
'And now, Jehovah my God hath given rest to me round about, there is no adversary nor evil occurrence,
5 Voici donc je prétends bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel mon Dieu, selon que l'Eternel en a parlé à David mon père en disant: Ton fils que je mettrai en ta place sur ton trône sera celui qui bâtira une maison à mon Nom.
and lo, I am saying to build a house to the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son whom I appoint in thy stead on thy throne, he doth build the house for My name.
6 C'est pourquoi commande maintenant qu'on coupe des cèdres du Liban, et que mes serviteurs soient avec tes serviteurs; et je te donnerai pour tes serviteurs telle récompense que tu me diras; car tu sais qu'il n'y a point de gens parmi nous qui s'entendent comme les Sidoniens, à couper le bois.
'And now, command, and they cut down for me cedars out of Lebanon, and my servants are with thy servants, and the hire of thy servants I give to thee according to all that thou sayest, for thou hast known that there is not among us a man acquainted with cutting wood, like the Sidonians.'
7 Or il arriva que quand Hiram eut entendu les paroles de Salomon, il s'en réjouit fort, et dit: Béni soit aujourd'hui l'Eternel, qui a donné à David un fils sage [pour être Roi] sur ce grand peuple.
And it cometh to pass at Hiram's hearing the words of Solomon, that he rejoiceth exceedingly, and saith, 'Blessed [is] Jehovah to-day, who hath given to David a wise son over this numerous people.'
8 Hiram envoya donc vers Salomon pour [lui] dire: J'ai entendu ce que tu m'as envoyé dire, et je ferai tout ce que tu veux au sujet du bois de cèdre et du bois de sapin.
And Hiram sendeth unto Solomon, saying, I have heard that which thou hast sent unto me, I do all thy desire concerning cedar-wood, and fir-wood,
9 Mes serviteurs les amèneront depuis le Liban jusqu'à la mer, puis je les ferai mettre sur la mer par radeaux, jusqu'au lieu que tu m'auras marqué, et je les ferai là délier, et tu les prendras, et de ton côté tu me satisferas en fournissant de vivres ma maison.
my servants bring down from Lebanon to the sea, and I make them floats in the sea unto the place that thou sendest unto me, and I have spread them out there; and thou dost take [them] up, and thou dost execute my desire, to give the food of my house.'
10 Hiram donc donnait du bois de cèdre et du bois de sapin à Salomon, autant qu'il en voulait.
And Hiram is giving to Solomon cedar-trees, and fir-trees, all his desire,
11 Et Salomon donnait à Hiram vingt mille Cores de froment pour la nourriture de sa maison, et vingt Cores d'huile très-pure; Salomon en donnait autant à Hiram chaque année.
and Solomon hath given to Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat, food for his house, and twenty cors of beaten oil; thus doth Solomon give to Hiram year by year.
12 Et l'Eternel donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme l'Eternel lui [en] avait parlé; et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils traitèrent alliance ensemble.
And Jehovah hath given wisdom to Solomon as He spake to him, and there is peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they make a covenant both of them.
13 Le Roi Salomon fit aussi une levée [de gens] sur tout Israël, et la levée fut de trente mille hommes.
And king Solomon lifteth up a tribute out of all Israel, and the tribute is thirty thousand men,
14 Et il en envoyait dix mille au Liban chaque mois, tour à tour, ils étaient un mois au Liban, et deux mois en leur maison; et Adoniram [était commis] sur cette levée.
and he sendeth them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month, by changes, a month they are in Lebanon, two months in their own house; and Adoniram [is] over the tribute.
15 Salomon avait aussi soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient les faix, et quatre-vingt mille qui coupaient le bois sur la montagne;
And king Solomon hath seventy thousand bearing burdens, and eighty thousand hewing in the mountain,
16 Sans les Chefs des Commis de Salomon, qui avaient la charge de l'ouvrage, au nombre de trois mille trois cents, lesquels commandaient au peuple qui était employé à ce travail.
apart from the heads of the officers of Solomon, who [are] over the work, three thousand and three hundred, those ruling over the people who are working in the business.
17 Et par le commandement du Roi, on amena de grandes pierres, et des pierres de prix, pour faire le fondement de la maison, qui étaient toutes taillées.
And the king commandeth, and they bring great stones, precious stone, to lay the foundation of the house, hewn stones;
18 De sorte que les maçons de Salomon, et les maçons d'Hiram, et les tailleurs de pierres taillèrent et préparèrent le bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.
and the builders of Solomon, and the builders of Hiram, and the Giblites hew, and prepare the wood and the stones to build the house.
