Psaumes 56

1 Au chef des chantres. Sur “Colombe des térébinthes lointains”. Hymne de David. Lorsque les Philistins le saisirent à Gath. Aie pitié de moi, ô Dieu! Car des hommes me harcèlent; Tout le jour ils me font la guerre, ils me tourmentent.

To the chief Musician upon Jonath-elem-rechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

2 Tout le jour mes adversaires me harcèlent; Ils sont nombreux, ils me font la guerre comme des hautains.

Mine enemies would daily swallow [me] up: for [they be] many that fight against me, O thou most High.

3 Quand je suis dans la crainte, En toi je me confie.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

4 Je me glorifierai en Dieu, en sa parole; Je me confie en Dieu, je ne crains rien: Que peuvent me faire des hommes?

In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

5 Sans cesse ils portent atteinte à mes droits, Ils n’ont à mon égard que de mauvaises pensées.

Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts [are] against me for evil.

6 Ils complotent, ils épient, ils observent mes traces, Parce qu’ils en veulent à ma vie.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

7 C’est par l’iniquité qu’ils espèrent échapper: Dans ta colère, ô Dieu, précipite les peuples!

Shall they escape by iniquity? in [thine] anger cast down the people, O God.

8 Tu comptes les pas de ma vie errante; Recueille mes larmes dans ton outre: Ne sont-elles pas inscrites dans ton livre?

Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: [are they] not in thy book?

9 Mes ennemis reculent, au jour où je crie; Je sais que Dieu est pour moi.

When I cry [unto thee], then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God [is] for me.

10 Je me glorifierai en Dieu, en sa parole; Je me glorifierai en l’Éternel, en sa parole;

In God will I praise [his] word: in the LORD will I praise [his] word.

11 Je me confie en Dieu, je ne crains rien: Que peuvent me faire des hommes?

In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

12 O Dieu! Je dois accomplir les vœux que je t’ai faits; Je t’offrirai des actions de grâces.

Thy vows [are] upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.

13 Car tu as délivré mon âme de la mort, Tu as garanti mes pieds de la chute, Afin que je marche devant Dieu, à la lumière des vivants.

For thou hast delivered my soul from death: [wilt] not [thou deliver] my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
