1 Corinthiens 13
1 Quand je parlerais les langues des hommes et des anges, si je n’ai pas la charité, je suis un airain qui résonne, ou une cymbale qui retentit.
Although with the tongues of men, I be speaking, and of messengers, and have not, love, I have become resounding brass, or a clanging cymbal;
2 Et quand j’aurais le don de prophétie, la science de tous les mystères et toute la connaissance, quand j’aurais même toute la foi jusqu’à transporter des montagnes, si je n’ai pas la charité, je ne suis rien.
And, though I have [the gift of] prophesying, and know all sacred secrets, and all knowledge, —and though I have all faith, so as to be removing mountains, and have not, love, I am, nothing;
3 Et quand je distribuerais tous mes biens pour la nourriture des pauvres, quand je livrerais même mon corps pour être brûlé, si je n’ai pas la charité, cela ne me sert de rien.
And, though I morsel out all my goods, —and though I deliver up my body, that I may boast, and have not, love, I am profited, nothing.
4 La charité est patiente, elle est pleine de bonté; la charité n’est point envieuse; la charité ne se vante point, elle ne s’enfle point d’orgueil,
Love, is patient, is gracious. Love, is not envious, vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 elle ne fait rien de malhonnête, elle ne cherche point son intérêt, elle ne s’irrite point, elle ne soupçonne point le mal,
Acteth not unbecomingly, seeketh not her own things, is not easily provoked, imputeth not that which is base,
6 elle ne se réjouit point de l’injustice, mais elle se réjouit de la vérité;
Rejoiceth not over unrighteousness, but rejoiceth in sympathy with truth, —
7 elle excuse tout, elle croit tout, elle espère tout, elle supporte tout.
All things, covereth, all things, believeth, all things, hopeth, all things, endureth.
8 La charité ne périt jamais. Les prophéties prendront fin, les langues cesseront, la connaissance disparaîtra.
Love, at no time, faileth; —but, whether prophesyings, they shall be done away, whether tongues, they shall cease, whether gaining knowledge, it shall be done away;
9 Car nous connaissons en partie, et nous prophétisons en partie,
For, in part, are we gaining knowledge, and, in part, are we prophesying, —
10 mais quand ce qui est parfait sera venu, ce qui est partiel disparaîtra.
But, as soon as that which is complete is come, that which is in part, shall be done away.
11 Lorsque j’étais enfant, je parlais comme un enfant, je pensais comme un enfant, je raisonnais comme un enfant; lorsque je suis devenu homme, j’ai fait disparaître ce qui était de l’enfant.
When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, to prefer as child, to reason as a child: now I have become a man, I have laid aside the things of the child!
12 Aujourd’hui nous voyons au moyen d’un miroir, d’une manière obscure, mais alors nous verrons face à face; aujourd’hui je connais en partie, mais alors je connaîtrai comme j’ai été connu.
For we see, as yet, through a dim window, obscurely, but, then, face to face: as yet, I gain knowledge, in part, but, then, shall I fully know, even as I was also fully known.
13 Maintenant donc ces trois choses demeurent: la foi, l’espérance, la charité; mais la plus grande de ces choses, c’est la charité.
But, now abide—faith, hope, love, —these three; but, the greatest of these, is, love.
