Nahum 2
1 Il est monté Celui qui délivre de l'affliction, te soufflant au visage. Observe la voie; ceins-toi les reins; agis en homme selon ta force.
It is all over with him, he has been removed, [one] who has been delivered from affliction has come up panting into thy presence, watch the way, strengthen [thy] loins, be very valiant in [thy] strength.
2 Le Seigneur a détourné l'outrage fait à Jacob, ainsi que l'outrage fait à Israël; car les envahisseurs les ont arrachés, et ils ont détruit leurs plantations.
For the Lord has turned aside the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel: for they have utterly rejected them, and have destroyed their branches.
3 Ils ont détruit les armes qui les rendaient puissants parmi les hommes, et leurs vaillants qui se jouaient de la flamme; mais au jour de Sa venue, les rênes de leurs chars et leurs cavaliers seront en désordre.
[They have destroyed] the arms of their power from among men, their mighty men sporting with fire: the reins of their chariots [shall be destroyed] in the day of his preparation, and the horsemen shall be thrown into confusion
4 Dans les rues, les chars s'entrechoqueront; ils s'embarrasseront les uns les autres au milieu des places. leurs aspect sera comme des lampes de feu, ou des éclairs sillonnant la nue.
in the ways, and the chariots shall clash together, and shall be entangled in each other in the broad ways: their appearance is as lamps of fire, and as gleaming lightnings.
5 Et leurs grands se souviendront alors, et ils fuiront le jour, et ils défailliront en leur chemin, et ils se hâteront de courir à leurs remparts, et ils y placeront des sentinelles.
And their mighty men shall bethink themselves and flee by day; and they shall be weak as they go; and they shall hasten to her walls, and shall prepare their defences.
6 Mais les portes des villes ont été forcées, et les palais du roi ont croulé;
The gates of the cities have been opened, and the palaces have fallen into ruin,
7 et les fondations en ont été mises à découvert, et n'ont plus été qu'un monceau de ruines, et les femmes ont été emmenées comme des colombes, gémissant en leurs cœurs.
and the foundation has been exposed; and she has gone up, and her maid-servants were led [away] as doves moaning in their hearts.
8 Et les eaux de Ninive ont été comme un étang plein d'eau, et ses habitants ont fui, et ils ne s'y sont pas arrêtés, et pas un n'a regardé en arrière.
And [as for] Nineve, her waters [shall be] as a pool of water: and they fled, and staid not, and there was none to look back.
9 Les vainqueurs ont pillé l'argent, ils ont pillé l'or; car ses ornements étaient sans nombre; ils sont accablés sous le poids des vases qu'elle avait convoités.
They plundered the silver, they plundered the gold, and there was no end of their adorning; they were loaded [with it] upon all their pleasant vessels.
10 Ce n'est partout que coups et contrecoups, tumulte et brisement du cœur, défaillance des genoux et violentes douleurs de reins; toute face est comme le fond noir d'une chaudière.
[There is] thrusting forth, and shaking, and tumult, and heart-breaking, and loosing of knees, and pangs on all loins; and the faces of all [are] as the blackening of a pot.
11 Où est le repaire des lions, et le pâturage des lionceaux? Où est allé le lion pour que le lionceau y entre avec lui? Et n'y avait-il personne pour les effrayer?
Where is the dwelling-place of the lions, and the pasture that belonged to the whelps? where did the lion go, that the lion's whelp should enter in there, and there was none to scare [him] away?
12 Le lion ravissait ce qui convenait à ses lionceaux, et pour eux il multipliait les meurtres; il remplissait de gibier son antre, et de rapines son repaire.
The lion seized enough prey for his whelps, and strangled for his [young] lions, and filled his lair with prey, and his dwelling-place with spoil.
13 Voilà que je viens à toi, dit le Seigneur tout-puissant, et Je brûlerai au milieu de la fumée ton peuple nombreux, et le glaive dévorera tes lions, et Je détruirai sur la terre le fruit de tes rapines, et l'on n'entendra plus parler de tes œuvres.
Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord Almighty, and I will burn up thy multitude in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy lions; and I will utterly destroy thy prey from off the land, and thy deeds shall no more at all be heard of.
