Juges 2
1 En ce temps-là, un ange du Seigneur vint de Galgala vers le Champ des Pleurs, vers Béthel et vers la maison de Joseph, à qui il dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Je vous ai fait sortir d'Egypte, je vous ai conduits en la terre que j'ai promise à vos pères, et j'ai dit: Je ne romprai pas l'alliance perpétuelle que j'ai faite avec vous.
And a messenger of Jehovah goeth up from Gilgal unto Bochim,
2 Et vous, vous ne ferez point alliance avec les peuples de cette terre, vous n'adorerez point leurs dieux, mais vous en briserez les images, et vous démolirez leurs autels. Or, vous avez été indociles à ma voix: car vous avez fait ce qui vous était défendu.
and saith, 'I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the age; and ye — ye make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land — their altars ye break down; and ye have not hearkened to My voice — what [is] this ye have done?
3 Et j'ai dit: Je n'exterminerai point ces peuples devant votre face, et ils seront pour vous un sujet d'angoisse, et leurs dieux vous seront un objet de scandale.
And I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their gods are to you for a snare.'
4 Lorsque l'ange du Seigneur eut dit ces paroles à tous les fils d'Israël, le peuple éleva la voix et pleura.
And it cometh to pass, when the messenger of Jehovah speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,
5 Ils donnèrent à ce lieu le nom de Champ des Pleurs, et ils y sacrifièrent au Seigneur Dieu.
and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Jehovah.
6 Or, lorsque Josué avait congédié le peuple, chacun était allé prendre possession de son héritage.
And Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;
7 Et le peuple avait servi le Seigneur durant tous les jours de Josué et durant tous les jours des anciens, dont la vie s'était prolongée avec la sienne, et qui avaient vu toutes les œuvres du Seigneur en faveur d'Israël
and the people serve Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.
8 Et Josué, fils de Nau, serviteur de Dieu, était mort âgé de cent dix ans.
And Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,
9 Et on l'avait enseveli sur les limites de son héritage en Thamnatharès, dans les montagnes d'Ephraïm au nord des montagnes de Gaas,
and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of mount Gaash;
10 Toute cette génération s'était réunie à ses pères; et il s'éleva après elle une autre génération qui ne connaissait point le Seigneur, ni les œuvres du Seigneur en faveur d'Israël.
and also all that generation have been gathered unto their fathers, and another generation riseth after them who have not known Jehovah, and even the work which He hath done to Israel.
11 Les fils d'Israël alors firent le mal devant le Seigneur, et ils servirent les Baal.
And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim,
12 Ils abandonnèrent le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères qui les avait fait sortir de l'Egypte, et ils suivirent d'autres dieux parmi les dieux des nations qui les entouraient; ils les adorèrent, et ils excitèrent le courroux du Seigneur.
and forsake Jehovah, God of their fathers, who bringeth them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who [are] round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Jehovah,
13 Ils l'abandonnèrent, et ils servirent Baal et les Astartés.
yea, they forsake Jehovah, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth.
14 Alors le Seigneur fut courroucé contre Israël; il les livra aux mains de pillards qui les dépouillèrent; il les fit retomber entre les mains de leurs ennemis tout alentour, et ils ne purent résister devant leurs ennemis,
And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He selleth them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;
15 De quelque côté qu'ils marchassent. Et la main du Seigneur était sur eux pour leur mal, comme l'avait dit le Seigneur Dieu, comme il le leur avait jurés, et il les affligea beaucoup.
in every [place] where they have gone out, the hand of Jehovah hath been against them for evil, as Jehovah hath spoken, and as Jehovah hath sworn to them, and they are distressed — greatly.
16 Ensuite, le Seigneur suscita des juges, et le Seigneur sauva le peuple des mains de ceux qui en faisaient leur proie.
And Jehovah raiseth up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;
17 Et le peuple n'obéit pas aux juges, parce qu'il s'était prostituée à la suite des dieux étrangers, et qu'il les avait adorés; il dévia rapidement des voies ou avaient marché ses pères; il cessa d'écouter comme eux la parole du Seigneur.
and also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside [with] haste out of the way [in] which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah — they have not done so.
18 Et lorsque le Seigneur avait suscité des juges pour les fils d'Israël, et que le Seigneur était avec le juge, il les sauvait des mains de leurs ennemis, durant tous les jours du juge, parce que le Seigneur était ému de leurs gémissements devant ceux qui les assiégeaient et les affligeaient.
And when Jehovah raised up to them judges — then was Jehovah with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repenteth Jehovah, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.
19 Mais, lorsque le juge était mort, ils changeaient et retombaient dans une corruption plus grande que celle de leurs pères, en suivant d'autres dieux, en les servant et en les adorant. Ils ne pouvaient alors renoncer à leurs habitudes ni à leurs voies d'endurcissement.
And it hath come to pass, at the death of the judge — they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.
20 Le Seigneur se courrouça donc contre Israël, et il dit: Pour punir ce peuple d'avoir abandonné l'alliance que j'avais faite avec ses pères, et de n'avoir pas écouté ma parole,
And the anger of Jehovah doth burn against Israel, and He saith, 'Because that this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to My voice —
21 Je ne ferai plus périr un seul homme de ceux qu'a laissés en cette terre Josué, fils de Nau, et qu'a laissés le Seigneur,
I also continue not to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua hath left when he dieth,
22 Pour éprouver par eux Israël, et voir s'il persévèrerait ou non dans la voie du Seigneur qu'avaient suivie leurs pères.
in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept [it] or not.'
23 Et le Seigneur permettra encore que les nations qu'il n'a pas livrées aux mains de Josué, ne soient point exterminées rapidement.
And Jehovah leaveth these nations, so as not to dispossess them hastily, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
