Jérémie 6
1 Armez-vous de force, fils de Benjamin, pour fuir du milieu de Jérusalem; sonnez de la trompette à Thécué, et levez l'étendard de Béthacharam, parce que, du côté de l'aquilon, des maux nous menacent, et qu'une grande affliction arrive sur nous;
Take your goods into safety, ye sons of Benjamin out of the midst of Jerusalem, And in Tekoa, blow ye a horn, And on Beth-haccherem, raise a fire-signal, —For calamity, hath looked out from the North, Even a great destruction.
2 Et ton orgueil sera abaissé, fille de Sion.
To a comely and delicate woman, have I likened the daughter of Zion:
3 Coutre elle marcheront les pasteurs avec leurs troupeaux, et ils dresseront leurs tentes autour d'elle, et chacun y viendra paître sa part de bétail.
Against her, shall come shepherds with their flocks; They have pitched against her their tents, round about, They tend their flocks every one near at hand.
4 Préparez-vous à la combattre; levez-vous, et donnons-lui l'assaut en plein midi. Malheur à nous! parce que le jour décline, et que les ombres du jour s'évanouissent.
Hallow ye against her a war, Arise! and let us go up in broad noon. Woe to us, for the day, hath turned, for the shadows of evening, stretch along.
5 Levez-vous, et donnons-lui l'assaut dans les ténèbres, et arrachons-lui ses fondations.
Arise! and let us go up in the night, And let us destroy her palaces.
6 Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Abats ses arbres, répands tes forces autour de Jérusalem. O ville menteuse, il y a en elle toute sorte d'oppression.
For, Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Cut ye down timber, And cast up, against Jerusalem a mound, —That, is the city to be punished! There is, nothing, but oppression in her midst;
7 Comme une citerne refroidit l'eau, ainsi sa méchanceté glace de froid; sans cesse on entend parler devant elle d'impiétés et d'afflictions.
Like the casting forth by a well of its waters, So, hath she cast forth her wickedness, —Violence and destruction, are heard in her, Before my face, continually, are suffering and smiting.
8 Jérusalem, tu seras instruite par le fouet et la douleur; mon âme ne se séparera point de toi que je n'aie fait de toi une terre impraticable, qui ne sera plus habitée.
Receive thou correction O Jerusalem, Lest my soul be torn from thee, —Lest I make thee A desolation, A land not habitable.
9 Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Grappillez, grappillez comme une vigne les restes d'Israël; allez et revenez, comme le vendangeur pour remplir son panier.
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean as a vine the remnant of Israel—Turn back thy hand, as a grape gatherer over the tendrils.
10 A qui vais-je parler et attester, et qui m'écoutera? Voilà que leurs oreilles sont incirconcises, et ils ne pourront entendre. Voilà que la parole du Seigneur leur inspire du mépris, et ils n'en veulent point.
Unto whom, can I speak—and bear witness, that they may hear? Lo! uncircumcised, is their ear, that they cannot attend, —Lo! the word of Yahweh, hath become to them a reproach, they take no delight therein.
11 Et j'ai assouvi ma colère, et je l'ai contenue en moi, et je ne les ai pas entièrement détruits. Mais je la répandrai au dehors sur les enfants à la mamelle, sur la synagogue des jeunes gens; en même temps l'on prendra les hommes et les femmes, et le vieillard plein de jours.
So then, with the indignation of Yahweh, am I full, I am too weary to hold it in, [I am constrained] to pour it out, upon the boy in the street, and upon the circle of young men, together, —For, even husband with wife, will be captured, The elder with him who is full of days;
12 Et leurs maisons, leurs champs, leurs femmes aussi appartiendront à d'autres, parce que j'étendrai la main sur les habitants de cette terre, dit le Seigneur.
And their houses shall be turned over to others, Fields and wives together, —For I will stretch out my hand against the inhabitants of the land, Declareth Yahweh.
13 Car, du petit au grand, ils ont commis des iniquités; depuis le prêtre jusqu'au faux prophète, ils ont fait des œuvres de mensonge.
For, from the least of them, even unto the greatest of them, Every one, graspeth with greed, —And from the prophet even unto the priest, Every one, dealeth, falsely;
14 Ils pansaient les plaies de mon peuple, mais avec dédain, en lui disant: La paix, la paix! Et où est-elle la paix?
And so they have healed the grievous wound of my people, slightly, Saying, Peace, peace, when there was no peace,
15 Aussi ont-ils été confondus parce qu'ils ont failli. Et encore ils n'ont pas été confondus comme ceux qui le sont réellement; car leur confusion même ne les a pas confondus. Et à cause de cela ils tomberont, et ce sera leur ruine; et au temps de ma visite ils périront, dit le Seigneur.
Were they led to turn pale because an abominable thing, they had done! Nay! they did not, at all turn pale, Nay! they did not so much as know how, to exhibit shame, Therefore, shall they fall among them who are falling, In the time when I punish them, shall they be overthrown, Saith Yahweh.
16 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tenez-vous dans les voies, et regardez, et informez-vous des éternels sentiers du Seigneur. Voyez quelle est la bonne voie et marchez-y, et vous trouverez la purification de vos âmes. Et ils ont dit: Nous n'irons pas.
Thus saith Yahweh—Stand ye at the ways—and see, And ask for the paths of age-past times, Where is the good way? And walk therein, And ye shall find rest to your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein]!
17 J'ai établi sur vous des sentinelles, disant: Écoutez la voix de la trompette. Et ils ont dit: Nous n'écouterons pas.
Therefore will I raise up over you, watchmen, Give ye heed to the sound of a horn, —But they said, We will not give heed!
18 A cause de cela, ils ont entendu les nations, et ceux qui paissaient leurs troupeaux.
Therefore, hear O ye nations, —And take knowledge O assembly, Of that which befalleth them:
19 Terre, écoute: Voilà que je vais amener sur ce peuple des malheurs, fruit de leur rébellion; car ils n'ont point eu souci de mes paroles, et ils ont répudié ma loi.
Hear thou—O earth, Lo! I, am bringing in Calamity against this people the fruit of their own devices, —For unto my words, have they not given heed, And as for my law, they have rejected it.
20 A quoi bon m'offrir de l'encens de Saba et du cinnamome d'une contrée lointaine, vos holocaustes ne me sont point agréables, et vos victimes ne me causent point de joie.
What then is it to me that—Frankincense from Shebah come in, or Sweet cane from a land afar off? Your own ascending-offerings, are not acceptable, Nor are, your sacrifices, pleasing to me.
21 Et c'est pourquoi le Seigneur a dit: Voilà que je vais envoyer une maladie sur ce peuple; les pères et les fils tomberont malades ensemble, les proches périront avec leurs voisins.
Wherefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! laying before this people, stumblingblocks, —And fathers and sons together, shall stumble against them, The neighbour and his friend, shall perish.
22 Et le Seigneur a dit: Voilà qu'un peuple vient de l'aquilon, et les nations se lèveront des extrémités de la terre.
Thus, saith Yahweh, Lo! a people coming in from the land of the North, —Yea a great nation, shall be stirred up out of the remote parts of the earth:
23 Ils tiendront l'arc et le javelot. Ce peuple est audacieux, il sera sans pitié; sa voix est comme les flots de la mer; il combattra à cheval et sur des chars et tombera sur toi comme la flamme, ô fille de Sion.
Bow and javelin, shall they grasp, Cruel, is he! So they will not have compassion, Their voice, like the sea, will roar, And on horses, will they ride, —Arrayed each one, like a man for battle, Against thee, O daughter of Zion!
24 Nous avons entendu ce qu'on en dit, et nos mains en sont défaillantes; l'angoisse nous a saisis avec des douleurs comme celles de l'enfantement.
We have heard the report thereof, Relaxed are our hands, —Anguish, hath taken hold on us, Pangs, as on her that is giving birth.
25 Ne sortez pas dans les champs, n'allez pas sur les chemins; car le glaive des ennemis est là tout alentour.
Do not go out into the field, And in the road, do not walk, -Because a sword, hath the foe, —Terror round about!
26 Fille de mon peuple, ceins-toi d'un cilice; couvre-toi de cendre; frappe amèrement ta poitrine, comme lorsqu'on pleure un bien-aimé; car soudain le malheur tombera sur vous.
O daughter of my people Gird thee with sackcloth and roll thyself in ashes, —The mourning for an only son, make thou for thyself, Most bitter lamentation! For suddenly, shall the destroyer come upon us.
27 Je t'ai établi pour mettre à l'épreuve ces peuples tant de fois éprouvés, et tu me connaîtras à ma manière d'éprouver moi-même leurs voies.
An assayer, have I set thee amongst my people, of gold-ore, —That thou mayest note and try their way:
28 Ils sont tous indociles, ils ne marchent point droit; c'est de l'airain et du fer, ils sont tous corrompus.
They all, are rebels of rebels, Slander-walkers [They are] bronze and iron! As for them all, corrupters, they are!
29 Le soufflet manque à la forge, le plomb y manque, le batteur d'argent frappe à vide; seule leur malice n'est point épuisée.
Scorched are the bellows, By fire, is lead wont to be, consumed, —In vain, hath he gone on refining, For the wicked, have not been drawn out:
30 Appelez-les de l'argent réprouvé; car ils sont réprouvés par le Seigneur.
Rejected silver, are they called, For, Yahweh, hath rejected them.
