Jérémie 42
1 Parole du Seigneur qui vint à Jérémie dans les jours de Joakim, roi de Juda, disant:
Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
2 Va dans la maison des Réchabites et amène-les au temple du Seigneur, dans l'un des parvis, et donne-leur à boire du vin.
and said unto Jeremiah the prophet: 'Let, we pray thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us;
3 Et j'amènerai Jéchonias, fils de Jérémin, fils de Babasin, et ses frères et ses fils, et toute la maison des Réchabites.
that the LORD thy God may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.'
4 Et je les fis entrer dans le temple du Seigneur, dans la chambre des fils de Jonas, fils d'Ananie, fils de Godolias, homme de Dieu; laquelle est près de la maison des princes, au-dessus de la maison de Musie, fils de Selom, gardien du parvis.
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them: 'I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.'
5 Et je mis devant eux une coupe de vin et des vases, et je leur dis: Buvez du vin.
Then they said to Jeremiah: 'The LORD be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do not even according to all the word wherewith the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.
6 Et ils dirent: Nous ne boirons pas de vin, parce que Jonadab, fils de Réchab, notre père, nous l'a défendu, disant: Ne buvez jamais de vin, ni vous ni vos fils.
Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will hearken to the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we hearken to the voice of the LORD our God.'
7 Ne bâtissez point de maisons, ne semez point de graines et n'ayez point de vignes, parce que vous demeurerez toujours sous des tentes, afin que vous viviez longtemps sur la terre où vous êtes passagers.
And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.
8 Et nous avons été dociles aux instructions de Jonadab, notre père; nous n'avons de nos jours bu de vin, nous ni nos femmes, nos fils ni nos filles.
Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
9 Nous n'avons point bâti de maisons pour y demeurer; nous n'avons possédé ni vignes, ni champs, ni semence.
and said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before Him:
10 Et nous avons demeuré sous des tentes, et nous avons obéi, et nous avons fait tout ce qu'avait prescrit Jonadab, notre père.
If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent Me of the evil that I have done unto you.
11 Et lorsque Nabuchodonosor est entré dans le pays, nous avons dit: Nous entrerons à Jérusalem; et nous y sommes entrés par crainte de l'armée des Chaldéens et de l'armée des Assyriens; nous avons donc demeuré ici.
Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD; for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
12 Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
And I will grant you compassion, that he may have compassion upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
13 Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Va et dis à tout homme de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem: Ne profitez-vous point de la correction pour être indociles à mes paroles?
But if ye say: We will not abide in this land; so that ye hearken not to the voice of the LORD your God;
14 Les fils de Jonadab, fils de Réchab, ont gardé la parole qu'il avait dite à ses enfants, leur prescrivant de ne point boire de vin, et ils n'en ont point bu. Et moi, je vous ai parlé dès l'aurore, et vous ne m'avez pas écouté.
saying: No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the horn, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we abide;
15 Je vous ai envoyé mes serviteurs les prophètes, disant: Détournez-vous de votre mauvaise voie, ayez de meilleures habitudes; ne marchez pas à la suite des dieux étrangers pour les servir; et vous demeurerez en la terre que j'ai donnée à vous et à vos pères. Et vous ne m'avez point prêté l'oreille, et vous ne m'avez pas écouté.
now therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;
16 Et les fils de Jonadab, fils de Réchab, ont observé les commandements de leur père; et ce peuple ne m'a pas écouté.
then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
17 À cause de cela, ainsi parle le Seigneur: Voilà que j'amènerai sur Juda et sur les habitants de Jérusalem tous les maux dont je les ai menacés.
So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
18 À cause de cela, voici ce que dit encore le Seigneur: Puisque les fils de Jonadab, fils de Réchab, ont obéi aux commandements de leur père, et qu'ils ont fait ce qu'il leur avait prescrit,
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: As Mine anger and My fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall My fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.
19 Jamais il ne manquera d'hommes parmi les fils de Jonadab, fils de Réchab, qui se tiennent devant ma face, durant tous les jours que cette terre subsistera.
The LORD hath spoken concerning you, O remnant of Judah: Go ye not into Egypt; know certainly that I have forewarned you this day.
For ye have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying: Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it;
and I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not hearkened to the voice of the LORD your God in any thing for which He hath sent me unto you.
Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn there.'
