Jérémie 13

1 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Pars et achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la autour de tes reins, et elle ne passera pas l'eau.

Thus, said Yahweh unto me, —Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins, —but in water, shalt thou not place it.

2 Et j'achetai la ceinture, selon la parole du Seigneur, et je la mis autour de mes reins.

So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh, —and put upon my loins.

3 Et la parole du Seigneur vint à moi, disant:

Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:

4 Prends la ceinture qui entoure tes reins, et lève-toi; puis va sur l'Euphrate, et en ce lieu cache-la dans une crevasse de rocher,

Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins, —and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.

5 Et je partis, et je cachai la ceinture près de l'Euphrate, somme me l'avait commandé le Seigneur.

So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.

6 Et ceci arriva bien des jours après, le Seigneur me dit: Lève-toi, et va sur l'Euphrate, et retire de ce lieu la ceinture que je t'ai ordonné d'y cacher.

And it came to pass, at the end of many days, —that Yahweh said unto me, —Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.

7 Et j'allai sur l'Euphrate, et je creusai, et je retirai la ceinture du lieu où je l'avais enfouie, et voilà qu'elle était si consumée, qu'elle n'était plus bonne à rien.

So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it, —and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing,

8 Et la parole du Seigneur vint à moi, disant:

Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:

9 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ainsi je consumerai l'orgueil de Juda et l'orgueil de Jérusalem,

Thus, saith Yahweh, —After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 Et ce grand orgueil des hommes qui ne veulent point écouter ma parole, et qui ont marché à la nuit des dieux étrangers, pour les adorer et les servir. Et ils seront comme une ceinture qui n'est plus bonne à rien.

This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.

11 Car de même qu'on attache une ceinture aux reins de l'homme, de même je m'étais attaché la maison d'Israël et toute la maison de Juda, pour qu'elles fussent mon peuple renommé, ma fierté et ma gloire; et ils ne m'ont point écouté.

For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto me—the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mine—For a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning, —but they hearkened not.

12 Et tu diras à ce peuple: Chaque outre sera remplie de vin; et s'ils te disent: Ne savons-nous pas que chaque outre sera remplie de vin?

Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word—Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?

13 Tu leur diras: Ainsi dit le Seigneur: Voilà que je vais remplir de boisson enivrante ceux qui habitent cette terre, et leurs rois, fils de David assis sur le trône, et leurs prêtres, et tous les hommes de Juda et de Jérusalem;

Then shalt thou say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness;

14 Et je les disperserai tous: je séparerai le frère du frère, et le père de ses fils. Je n'en aurai point de regrets, dit le Seigneur, et je n'épargnerai personne, et je serai sans pitié en les détruisant.

and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh, —I will not pity, Neither will I spare, Neither will I have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

15 Écoutez, prêtez l'oreille, et ne vous élevez pas; car le Seigneur a parlé.

Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty, —For Yahweh, hath spoken.

16 Rendez gloire au Seigneur votre Dieu, avant la nuit, avant que vos pieds se heurtent à des montagnes de ténèbres. Et vous attendez la lumière; et ce sera l'ombre de la mort, et les hommes resteront dans l'obscurité.

Give ye to Yahweh your God—glory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.

17 Si vous ne m'écoutez point, votre âme pleurera secrètement sur son orgueil, et vos yeux verseront des larmes, parce que le troupeau du Seigneur aura été meurtri.

But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.

18 Dites au roi et aux princes: Humiliez-vous, prosternez-vous; car votre couronne de gloire a été enlevée de votre tête.

Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselves—Sit down, —For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.

19 Les villes du midi ont été fermées, et il n'est resté personne pour les ouvrir. Juda a été transporté tout entier; ils ont tous été émigrants et captifs.

The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open, —Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.

20 Lève les yeux, Jérusalem, et vois ceux qui viennent de l'aquilon. Où est le troupeau qui t'a été donné? où sont les brebis qui faisaient ta gloire?

Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North, —Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?

21 Que diras-tu, quand ils te visiteront? C'est toi qui les as instruits contre toi, et tes leçons datent de loin. Ne seras-tu pas saisie de douleurs, comme la femme qui enfante?

What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?

22 Et si tu dis en ton cœur: Pourquoi ces choses m'arrivent-elles? A cause de la multitude de tes iniquités; ta robe a été soulevée par derrière, pour que tes jambes reçoivent un châtiment infâme.

But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!

23 Quand un Éthiopien changera la couleur de sa peau, et la panthère sa bigarrure, vous pourrez faire le bien, vous qui n'avez appris que le mal.

Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed to do wrong.

24 Et je les ai dispersés comme des broussailles qu'emporte le vent du désert.

Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.

25 Tel sera ton sort, tel sera ton partage pour m'avoir désobéi, dit le Seigneur. Comme tu m'as oublié pour mettre ton espérance en des mensonges,

This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:

26 De même je relèverai ta robe sur ta face, et ton ignominie apparaîtra,

Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,

27 Et tes adultères, et tes hennissements, et ta prostitution à des étrangers; j'ai vu tes abominations sur les collines et dans les champs. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem; car tu n'as pas été purifiée, pour marcher à ma suite. Et jusques à quand en sera-t-il ainsi?

Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?
