1 Samuel 3

1 Cependant, le jeune Samuel était employé au service du Seigneur devant Héli le prêtre; en ces jours-là, la parole du Seigneur était rare; il n'y avait plus de visions faisant connaître ses volontés.

And the youth Samuel is serving Jehovah before Eli, and the word of Jehovah hath been precious in those days — there is no vision broken forth.

2 Et en ce temps-là, il advint qu'Héli dormait au lieu accoutumé; ses yeux commençaient à s'affaiblir; il n'y voyait plus.

And it cometh to pass, at that time, that Eli is lying down in his place, and his eyes have begun to be dim — he is not able to see.

3 C'était avant le moment où l'on visitait la lampe de Dieu, et Samuel dormait dans le sanctuaire auprès de l'arche de Dieu.

And the lamp of God is not yet extinguished, and Samuel is lying down in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God [is],

4 Et le Seigneur appela Samuel, Samuel; et l'enfant dit: Me voici.

and Jehovah calleth unto Samuel, and he saith, 'Here [am] I.'

5 Et il courut auprès d'Héli, et il lui dit: Me voici, puisque tu m'as appelé. Mais Héli répondit: Je ne t'ai point appelé, retourne-l'en et te rendors. Il s'en retourna donc, et il se rendormit.

And he runneth unto Eli, and saith, 'Here [am] I, for thou hast called for me;' and he saith, 'I called not; turn back, lie down;' and he goeth and lieth down.

6 Le Seigneur recommença, il appela: Samuel, Samuel; l'enfant alla une seconde fois auprès d'Héli, et il dit: Me voici, puisque tu m'as appelé. Mais le prêtre lui répondit: Je ne t'ai point appelé, retourne-t'en et te rendors.

And Jehovah addeth to call again Samuel, and Samuel riseth and goeth unto Eli, and saith, 'Here [am] I, for thou hast called for me;' and he saith, 'I have not called, my son, turn back, lie down.'

7 Or, c'était avant que Samuel connût Dieu, et que la parole du Seigneur lui eût été révélée.

And Samuel hath not yet known Jehovah, and the word of Jehovah is not yet revealed unto him.

8 Le Seigneur, continuant, appela Samuel une troisième fois; l'enfant se leva, il alla auprès d'Héli, et il dit: Me voici, puisque tu m'as appelé. Le prêtre comprit alors que le Seigneur avait appelé l'enfant.

And Jehovah addeth to call Samuel the third time, and he riseth and goeth unto Eli, and saith, 'Here [am] I, for thou hast called for me;' and Eli understandeth that Jehovah is calling to the youth.

9 Il dit donc: Retourne-t'en, et rendors-toi, mon fils, et, si l'on t'appelle encore, tu diras: Parlez, votre serviteur vous écoute. Et Samuel s'en retourna, et il se recoucha au lieu accoutumé.

And Eli saith to Samuel, 'Go, lie down, and it hath been, if He doth call unto thee, that thou hast said, Speak, Jehovah, for Thy servant is hearing;' and Samuel goeth and lieth down in his place.

10 Le Seigneur vint, s'arrêta, et l'appela comme les autres fois, et Samuel dit: Parlez, votre serviteur vous écoute.

And Jehovah cometh, and stationeth Himself, and calleth as time by time, 'Samuel, Samuel;' and Samuel saith, 'Speak, for Thy servant is hearing.'

11 Et le Seigneur dit: Voilà que j'exécute ce que j'ai dit en Israël; quiconque l'ouïra, ses deux oreilles en tinteront.

And Jehovah saith unto Samuel, 'Lo, I am doing a thing in Israel, at which the two ears of every one hearing it do tingle.

12 En ce jour-là, je susciterai contre Héli toutes les choses dont j'ai menacé sa famille; je commencerai et j'achèverai.

In that day I establish unto Eli all that I have spoken unto his house, beginning and completing;

13 Je lui ai annoncé que je punirais à perpétuité sa famille, à cause des iniquités de ses fils; car ses fils ont outragé Dieu, et il ne les a point réprimandés.

and I have declared to him that I am judging his house — to the age, for the iniquity which he hath known, for his sons are making themselves vile, and he hath not restrained them,

14 Non, les choses ne peuvent aller ainsi: j'ai juré à la famille d'Héli que son iniquité ne pouvait être expiée ni par l'encens ni par les sacrifices à perpétuité.

and therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli: the iniquity of the house of Eli is not atoned for, by sacrifice, and by offering — unto the age.'

15 Et Samuel resta couché jusqu'au matin; il se leva dès l'aurore, et il ouvrit les portes de la maison du Seigneur. Or, Samuel craignit de raconter sa vision.

And Samuel lieth till the morning, and openeth the doors of the house of Jehovah, and Samuel is afraid of declaring the vision unto Eli.

16 Et Héli dit à Samuel: Samuel, mon enfant. Et il répondit: Me voici.

And Eli calleth Samuel, and saith, 'Samuel, my son;' and he saith, 'Here [am] I.'

17 Puis, le prêtre reprit: Quelle est la parole qui t'a été dite? ne me cache rien; que le Seigneur te punisse, et qu'il te punisse encore, si tu me caches rien de ce qu'ont ouï tes oreilles.

And he saith, 'What [is] the word which He hath spoken unto thee? I pray thee, hide it not from me; so doth God do to thee, and so doth He add, if thou hidest from me a word of all the words that He hath spoken unto thee.'

18 Samuel lui répéta donc toutes les paroles du Seigneur, il ne lui cacha rien. Et le prêtre dit: C'est le Seigneur; il fera ce que bon lui semble.

And Samuel declareth to him the whole of the words, and hath not hid from him; and he saith, 'It [is] Jehovah; that which is good in His eyes He doth.'

19 Et Samuel grandit et prospéra, car le Seigneur était avec lui; et pas une de ses paroles ne fut vaine.

And Samuel groweth up, and Jehovah hath been with him, and hath not let fall any of his words to the earth;

20 Et depuis Dan jusqu'à Bersabée, tout Israël sut que Samuel était un fidèle prophète du Seigneur.

and all Israel know, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, that Samuel is established for a prophet to Jehovah.

21 Le Seigneur continua de se montrer en Silo, parce que le Seigneur s'était révélé à Samuel. D'une extrémité à l'autre de la terre promise, tout Israël crut que Samuel était un prophète du Seigneur. Or, Héli était très avancé en âge; et ses fils marchaient dans leur voie, et leur voie était mauvaise devant le Seigneur.

And Jehovah addeth to appear in Shiloh, for Jehovah hath been revealed unto Samuel, in Shiloh, by the word of Jehovah.
