1 Chroniques 20
1 Le cours de l'année ramena le temps où les rois se mettent en campagne. Joab emmena toutes les forces de l'armée, et il ravagea la contrée des fils d'Ammon; il assiégea ensuite Rhabba, pendant que David était resté à Jérusalem; Joab prit Rhabba (Rabbath), et la détruisit.
And it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.
2 Et David prit sur la tête du roi Molchom sa couronne, qui pesait un talent d'or, et qui était ornée de pierres précieuses; elle allait à la tête de David; enfin, il rapporta de cette ville un immense butin.
And David took the crown of Malcam from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head; and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceeding much.
3 Et il emmena tout le peuple qui l'habitait, et il l'extermina en plaçant les uns sous des scies, les autres sous des haches de fer, d'autres sous la cognée du bûcheron. Ce fut ainsi que David traita tous les fils d'Ammon, et David et tout le peuple retournèrent à Jérusalem.
And he brought forth the people that were therein, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. And thus did David unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4 Ensuite, la guerre recommença avec les Philistins de Gazer. Alors, Sobochaï le Sasathite tua Saphut, de la race des géants, après l'avoir humilié.
And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, of the sons of the giants; and they were subdued.
5 Et il y eut une autre guerre avec les Philistins; et Eléanan, fils de Jaïr, tua Lachmi, frère de Goliath de Geth, qui portait une lance comme le mât d'un tisserand.
And there was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
6 Et il y eut encore une guerre avec Geth. Or, il y avait un homme de grande taille, issu des géants, et qui avait vingt-quatre doigts, six à chaque main, et six à chaque pied.
And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was born unto the giant.
7 Et il insulta Israël; et Jonathas, dis de Semas, frère de David, le tua. Ces hommes étaient de la race de Rhapha de Geth.
And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him.
8 Ils étaient quatre, tous géants, et ils tombèrent sous les coups de David et de ses serviteurs.
These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
