2 Chroniques 5

1 Tous les travaux, entrepris par le roi Salomon pour la maison du Seigneur, étant terminés, Salomon réunit les legs pieux de David, son père, en argent, or, vases de toute sorte, et les déposa dans les trésors du temple de Dieu.

Then Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had vowed, the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels he put among the treasures of the house of God.

2 Alors Salomon convoqua à Jérusalem les anciens d’Israël, tous les chefs de tribu et chefs de famille des enfants d’Israël, pour procéder au transfert de l’arche d’alliance de l’Eternel de la cité de David, qui est Sion.

And after this he gathered together the ancients of Israel, and all the princes of the tribes, and the heads of the families, of the children of Israel to Jerusalem, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Sion.

3 Tous les citoyens d’Israël se réunirent auprès du roi Salomon, pendant la fête qui tombe dans le septième mois.

And all the men of Israel came to the king in the solemn day of the seventh month.

4 Tous les anciens d’Israël étant arrivés, les Lévites se chargèrent de l’arche.

And when all the ancients of Israel were come, the Levites took up the ark,

5 On transporta l’arche, la Tente d’assignation et tous les objets sacrés qui s’y trouvaient prêtres et Lévites les transportèrent ensemble.

And brought it in, together with all the furniture of the tabernacle. And the priests with the Levites carried the vessels of the sanctuary, which were in the tabernacle.

6 Le roi Salomon et toute la communauté d’Israël rassemblée près de lui, se plaçant devant l’arche, firent des sacrifices de menu et de gros bétail, si nombreux qu’on n’aurait pu les compter.

And king Solomon and all the assembly of Israel, and all that were gathered together before the ark, sacrificed rams, and oxen without number: so great was the multitude of the victims.

7 Alors les prêtres installèrent l’arche d’alliance de l’Eternel à la place qui lui était assignée, dans le debir du temple ou Saint des Saints, sous les ailes des chérubins.

And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord into its place, that is, to the oracle of the temple, into the holy of holies under the wings of the cherubims:

8 Les chérubins déployaient leurs ailes dans la direction de l’arche, de sorte qu’ils couvraient, en les dominant, l’arche et ses barres.

So that the cherubims spread their wings over the place, in which the ark was set, and covered the ark itself and its staves.

9 On avait prolongé ces barres, de façon que leurs extrémités s’apercevaient de l’enceinte sacrée, à l’entrée du debir, mais n’étaient pas apparentes extérieurement; elles y sont restées jusqu’à ce jour.

Now the ends of the staves wherewith the ark was carried, because they were some thing longer, were seen before the oracle: but if a man were a little outward, he could not see them. So the ark has been there unto this day.

10 Il n’y avait dans l’arche que les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y déposa près de l’Horeb, alors que l’Eternel conclut un pacte avec les Israélites, après leur sortie d’Egypte.

And there was nothing else in the ark but the two tables which Moses put there at Horeb when the Lord gave the law to the children of Israel, at their coming out of Egypt.

11 Or, lorsque les prêtres sortirent du lieu saint, car tous les prêtres présents s’étaient sanctifiés, l’ordre des classes ne pouvant être observé,

Now when the priests were come out of the sanctuary, (for all the priests that could be found there, mere sanctified: and as yet at that time the courses and orders of the ministries were not divided among them, )

12 de même les Lévites, et tous les chantres, Assaph, Hêmân, Yedouthoun, leurs fils et leurs frères, vêtus de byssus et munis de cymbales, de luths, et de harpes, étaient placés à l’est de l’autel; près d’eux des prêtres, au nombre de cent vingt, sonnaient de la trompette;

Both the Levites and the singing men, that is, both they that were under Asaph, and they that were under Heman, and they that were under Idithun, with their sons, and their brethren, clothed with fine linen, sounded with cymbals, and psalteries, and harps, standing on the east side of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests, sounding with trumpets.

13 lorsque donc sonneurs de trompettes et chanteurs entonnèrent à l’unisson les louanges et les actions de grâces à l’Eternel, lorsque les accents des trompettes, des cymbales, des autres instruments de musique accompagnèrent le chant: "Gloire au Seigneur; car il est bon, car sa grâce dure à jamais!", la maison, le temple du Seigneur fut rempli d’une nuée,

So when they all sounded together, both with trumpets, and voice, and cymbals, and organs, and with divers kind of musical instruments, and lifted up their voice on high: the sound was heard afar off, so that when they began to praise the Lord, and to say: Give glory to the Lord for he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever: the house of God was filled with a cloud.

14 et les prêtres ne purent, par suite, s’y tenir pour faire leur service, parce que la majesté divine remplissait la maison de Dieu.

Nor could the priests stand and minister by reason of the cloud. For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.
