Matthieu 8
1 Et quand il fut descendu de la montagne, de grandes foules le suivirent.
And when he came down from the mountain, there followed him large multitudes.
2 Et voici, un lépreux s’approchant, se prosterna devant lui, disant: Seigneur, si tu veux, tu peux me rendre net.
And lo! a leper, coming near, began to bow down to him saying, —Lord! if thou be willing, thou canst cleanse me.
3 Et [Jésus], étendant la main, le toucha, disant: Je veux, sois net. Et aussitôt il fut nettoyé de sa lèpre.
And, stretching forth the hand, he touched him, saying, —I am willing, be cleansed! And, straightway, cleansed was his leprosy.
4 Et Jésus lui dit: Prends garde de ne le dire à personne; mais va, montre-toi au sacrificateur et offre le don que Moïse a ordonné, pour qu’il leur serve de témoignage.
And Jesus saith unto him, Mind! tell, no one, —but withdraw, thyself, shew to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses directed, for a witness unto them.
5 Et comme il entrait dans Capernaüm, un centurion vint à lui, le suppliant,
And, when he entered into Capernaum, there came near unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 et disant: Seigneur, mon serviteur est couché à la maison, atteint de paralysie, horriblement tourmenté.
and saying, Lord! my servant, is laid prostrate in the house, a paralytic, fearfully tortured.
7 Et Jésus lui dit: J’irai, moi, et je le guérirai.
He saith unto him, I, will come and cure him.
8 Et le centurion répondit et dit: Seigneur, je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit; mais dis seulement une parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri;
But the centurion, answering, said, Lord! I am of no consideration, that, under my roof, thou shouldest enter, —but, only say with a word, and healed shall be my servant.
9 car moi aussi, je suis un homme placé sous l’autorité [d’autrui], ayant sous moi des soldats; et je dis à l’un: Va, et il va; et à un autre: Viens, et il vient; et à mon esclave: Fais cela, et il le fait.
For, I also, am a man [set] under authority, having under myself, soldiers, —and I say to this one, Go! and he goeth, and to another, Come! and he cometh, and, to my servant, Do this! and he doeth it.
10 Et Jésus, l’ayant entendu, s’en étonna, et dit à ceux qui [le] suivaient: En vérité, je vous dis: je n’ai pas trouvé, même en Israël, une si grande foi.
Now Jesus, hearing, marveled, and said to them that followed, —Verily, I say unto you, With no one in Israel, such faith as this, have I found.
11 Et je vous dis que plusieurs viendront d’orient et d’occident, et s’assiéront avec Abraham et Isaac et Jacob dans le royaume des cieux;
But I say unto you, Many from east and west, will have come, and shall recline with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of the heavens;
12 mais les fils du royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres de dehors: là seront les pleurs et les grincements de dents.
Whereas, the sons of the kingdom, shall be cast forth into the darkness outside, —There, will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
13 Et Jésus dit au centurion: Va, et qu’il te soit fait comme tu as cru; et à cette heure-là son serviteur fut guéri.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Withdraw! and, as thou hast believed, be it done for thee. And healed was the servant in that hour.
14 Et Jésus, étant venu dans la maison de Pierre, vit la belle-mère de Pierre couchée là et ayant la fièvre;
And Jesus, coming into the house of Peter, saw his mother-in-law laid prostrate and in a fever,
15 et il lui toucha la main, et la fièvre la quitta; et elle se leva et le servit.
and he touched her hand, and the fever left her, —and she arose, and began ministering unto him.
16 Et le soir étant venu, on lui apporta beaucoup de démoniaques; et il chassa les esprits par [une] parole, et guérit tous ceux qui se portaient mal;
But, when, evening, came, they brought unto him many demonized, —and he cast out the spirits with a word, and, all who were sick, he cured:
17 en sorte que fût accompli ce qui a été dit par Ésaïe le prophète, disant: « Lui-même a pris nos langueurs, et a porté nos maladies ».
that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, —Himself, our weaknesses, took, and, diseases, bare.
18 Or Jésus, voyant de grandes foules autour de lui, commanda de passer à l’autre rive.
Now Jesus, seeing a multitude about him, gave orders to depart unto the other side.
19 Et un scribe s’approchant, lui dit: Maître, je te suivrai où que tu ailles.
And a certain scribe, coming near, said unto him, —Teacher; I will follow thee, whithersoever Thou goest.
20 Et Jésus lui dit: Les renards ont des tanières, et les oiseaux du ciel ont des demeures; mais le fils de l’homme n’a pas où reposer sa tête.
And Jesus saith unto him: The foxes, have, dens, and, the birds of the heavens, nests, —but, the Son of Man, hath not where, his head he may recline.
21 Et un autre de ses disciples lui dit: Seigneur, permets-moi de m’en aller premièrement et d’ensevelir mon père.
And, another of the disciples, saith unto him, —Lord! suffer me, first, to depart, and bury my father.
22 Mais Jésus lui dit: Suis-moi, et laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts.
But, Jesus, saith unto him, —Be following me, and leave, the dead, to bury, their own dead.
23 Et quand il fut monté dans le bateau, ses disciples le suivirent;
And, when he, entered, into a boat, his disciples followed him.
24 et voici, une grande tourmente s’éleva sur la mer, en sorte que le bateau était couvert par les vagues; mais lui dormait.
And lo! a great squall, arose in the sea, so that, the boat, was being covered, by the waves, —but, he, was sleeping.
25 Et les disciples s’approchèrent et le réveillèrent, disant: Seigneur, sauve-[nous]! nous périssons.
And, coming near, they aroused him, saying, Master! save, we perish!
26 Et il leur dit: Pourquoi êtes-vous craintifs, gens de petite foi? Alors, s’étant levé, il reprit les vents et la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.
And he saith unto them, Why, are ye, fearful, little of faith? Then, aroused, he rebuked the winds and the sea, —and it became a great calm.
27 Et les gens s’en étonnèrent, disant: Quel est celui-ci, que les vents même et la mer lui obéissent!
But, the men, marveled, saying, Whence is this one, —that, both the winds and the sea, unto him, give ear?
28 Et quand il arriva à l’autre rive, dans le pays des Gergéséniens, deux démoniaques, sortant des sépulcres, vinrent à sa rencontre; [et ils étaient] très violents, en sorte que personne ne pouvait passer par ce chemin-là.
And, when he, came, unto the other side, into the country of the Gadarenes, there met him, two men demonized, out of the tombs, coming forth, —fierce exceedingly, so that no one could pass that way;
29 Et voici, ils s’écrièrent, disant: Qu’y a-t-il entre nous et toi Jésus, Fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu ici avant le temps pour nous tourmenter?
and lo! they cried aloud, saying, What have we in common with thee, O Son of God? Hast thou come hither, before the right time, to torment us?
30 Et il y avait, loin d’eux, un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui paissait.
Now there was, far from them, a herd of many swine, feeding;
31 Et les démons le priaient, disant: Si tu nous chasses, permets-nous de nous en aller dans le troupeau des pourceaux.
and, the demons, began to beseech him, saying, If thou dost cast us out, send us away, into the herd of swine.
32 Et il leur dit: Allez. Et eux, sortant, s’en allèrent dans le troupeau des pourceaux; et voici, tout le troupeau des pourceaux se rua du haut de la côte dans la mer; et ils moururent dans les eaux.
And he said unto them, Withdraw! So, they, going out, departed into the swine, —and lo! all the herd rushed down the cliff, into the sea, and died in the waters.
33 Et ceux qui les paissaient s’enfuirent; et, s’en étant allés dans la ville, ils racontèrent tout, et ce qui était arrivé aux démoniaques.
And, they who were feeding them, fled, —and, departing into the city, reported all things, and what concerned them who had been demonized.
34 Et voici, toute la ville sortit au-devant de Jésus; et l’ayant vu, ils le prièrent de se retirer de leur territoire.
And lo! all the city, came out to meet Jesus, —and, seeing him, they besought that he would pass on from their bounds.
