Proverbes 2

1 Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles; et si tu gardes avec toi mes préceptes;

[My] son, if you will receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it with you;

2 rendant ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, et inclinant ton cœur vers l'intelligence;

your ear shall listen to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son.

3 oui, si tu appelles la prudence, et si tu élèves ta voix vers l'intelligence,

For it you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding;

4 si tu la cherches comme l'argent, et si tu la creuses comme pour découvrir un trésor; —

and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures;

5 alors tu comprendras la crainte de Yahweh, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.

then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

6 Car Yahweh donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent la science et la prudence;

For the Lord gives wisdom; and from his presence [come] knowledge and understanding,

7 il garde le bonheur pour les hommes droits, il est un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans la perfection;

and he treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: he will protect their way;

8 il protège les sentiers de l'équité, il veille sur la voie de ses fidèles. —

that he may guard the righteous ways: and he will preserve the way of them that fear him.

9 Alors tu comprendras la justice, l'équité, la droiture et tous les sentiers du bien.

Then shall you understand righteousness, and judgment; and shall direct all your course aright.

10 Lorsque la sagesse viendra dans ton cœur, et que la science fera les délices de ton âme,

For if wisdom shall come into your understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to your soul,

11 la réflexion veillera sur toi, et l'intelligence te gardera,

good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you;

12 pour te délivrer de la voie du mal, de l'homme qui tient des discours pervers,

to deliver you from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully.

13 de ceux qui abandonnent les droits sentiers, afin de marcher dans des chemins ténébreux,

Alas [for those] who forsake right paths, to walk in ways of darkness;

14 qui se réjouissent de faire le mal, et mettent leur plaisir dans les pires perversités,

who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness;

15 dont les sentiers sont tortueux et qui suivent des voies obliques; —

whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding;

16 pour te délivrer de la femme qui est à un autre, de l'étrangère qui use de paroles doucereuses,

to remove you far from the straight way, and to estrange you from a righteous purpose. [My] son, let not evil counsel overtake you,

17 qui abandonne le compagnon de sa jeunesse, et oublie l'alliance de son Dieu;

[of her] who has forsaken the instruction of her youth, and forgotten the covenant of God.

18 car elle penche avec sa maison vers la mort, et sa route conduit aux enfers;

For she has fixed her house near death, and [guided] her wheels near Hades with the giants.

19 de tous ceux qui vont à elle, nul ne revient, aucun ne retrouve les sentiers de la vie.

None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they are not apprehended of the years of life.

20 Ainsi tu marcheras dans la voie des hommes de bien, et tu garderas les sentiers des justes.

For had they gone in good paths, they would have found the paths of righteousness easy.

21 Car les hommes droits habiteront la terre et les hommes intègres y demeureront;

For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it.

22 mais les méchants seront retranchés de la terre, et les infidèles en seront arrachés.

The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it.
