Matthieu 26
1 Jésus ayant achevé tous ces discours, dit à ses disciples:
When Jesus had finished teaching all of that, he said to his disciples,
2 " Vous savez que la Pâque a lieu dans deux jours, et que le Fils de l'homme va être livré pour être crucifié. "
“You know that in two days time the Festival of the Passover will be here; and that the Son of Man is to be given up to be crucified.”
3 Alors les Princes des prêtres et les Anciens du peuple se réunirent dans la cour du grand-prêtre, appelé Caïphe,
Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met in the house of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 et ils délibérèrent sur les moyens de s'emparer de Jésus par ruse et de le faire mourir.
and plotted together to arrest Jesus by stealth and put him to death;
5 " Mais, disaient-ils, il ne faut pas que ce soit pendant la fête, de peur qu'il ne s'élève quelque tumulte parmi le peuple. "
but they said, “Not during the Festival, or the people may riot.”
6 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
After Jesus had reached Bethany, and while he was in the house of Simon the leper,
7 une femme s'approcha de lui, avec un vase d'albâtre contenant un parfum de grand prix; et pendant qu'il était à table, elle répandit le parfum sur sa tête.
a woman came up to him with an alabaster jar of very costly perfume, and poured the perfume on his head as he sat at the table.
8 Ce que voyant, les disciples dirent avec indignation: " A quoi bon cette perte?
The disciples were indignant at seeing this. “What is this waste for?” they exclaimed.
9 On aurait pu vendre ce parfum très cher et en donner le prix aux pauvres. "
“It could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to poor people.”
10 Jésus, s'en étant aperçu, leur dit: " Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? C'est une bonne action qu'elle a faite à mon égard.
“Why are you troubling the woman?” Jesus said, when he noticed it. “For this is a beautiful deed that she has done to me.
11 Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous; mais moi, vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
You always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
12 En répandant ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait pour ma sépulture.
In pouring this perfume on my body, she prepares me for my burial.
13 Je vous le dis, en vérité, partout où sera prêché cet évangile, dans le monde entier, ce qu'elle a fait sera raconté en mémoire d'elle. "
I tell you, wherever, in the whole world, this good news is proclaimed, what this woman has done will be told in memory of her.”
14 Alors l'un des Douze, appelé Judas Iscariote, alla trouver les Princes des prêtres,
It was then that one of the Twelve, named Judas Iscariot, made his way to the chief priests,
15 et leur dit: " Que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai? " Et ils lui comptèrent trente pièces d'argent.
and said “What are you willing to give me, if I betray Jesus to you?” The Priests counted him out thirty pieces of silver as payment.
16 Depuis ce moment, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.
So from that time Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
17 Le premier jour des Azymes, les disciples vinrent trouver Jésus, et lui dirent: " Où voulez-vous que nous préparions le repas pascal? "
On the first day of the Festival of the unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus, and said, “Where do you wish us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
18 Jésus leur répondit: " Allez à la ville chez un tel, et dites-lui: Le Maître te fait dire: Mon temps est proche, je ferai chez toi la Pâque avec mes disciples. "
“Go into the city to a certain man,” he answered, “and say to him ‘The teacher says – My time is near. I will keep the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”
19 Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait commandé, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
The disciples did as Jesus directed them, and prepared the Passover.
20 Le soir étant venu, il se mit à table avec les Douze.
In the evening Jesus took his place with the twelve disciples,
21 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, il dit: " Je vous le dis en vérité, l'un de vous me trahira. "
and, while they were eating, he said, “I tell you that one of you will betray me.”
22 Ils en furent profondément attristés et chacun se mit à lui dire: " Est-ce moi, Seigneur? "
In great grief they began to say to him, one by one, “Can it be I, Master?”
23 Il répondit: " Celui qui a mis avec moi la main au plat, celui-là me trahira!
“The one who dipped his bread beside me in the dish,” replied Jesus, “is the one who will betray me.
24 Le Fils de l'homme s'en va selon ce qui est écrit de lui; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi! Mieux vaudrait pour lui que cet homme-là ne fût pas né. "
True, the Son of Man must go, as scripture says of him, yet alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is being betrayed! For that man it would be better never to have been born!”
25 Judas, qui le trahissait, prit la parole et dit: " Est-ce moi, Maître? " — " Tu l'as dit, " répondit Jésus.
Judas, who was betraying him, turned to him and said, “Can it be I, Rabbi?” “It is,” answered Jesus.
26 Pendant le repas, Jésus prit le pain; et, ayant prononcé une bénédiction, il le rompit et le donna à ses disciples, en disant: " Prenez et mangez, ceci est mon corps. "
While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and, after saying the blessing, broke it and, as he gave it to his disciples, said, “Take it and eat it; this is my body.”
27 Il prit ensuite la coupe, et, ayant rendu grâces, il la leur donna en disant: " Buvez-en tous:
Then he took a cup, and, after saying the thanksgiving, gave it to them, with the words, “Drink from it, all of you;
28 car ceci est mon sang, le sang de la nouvelle l'alliance, répandu pour la multitude en rémission des péchés.
for this is my covenant blood, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
29 Je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où je le boirai nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père. "
I tell you that I will never, after this, drink of this juice of the grape, until that day when I will drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.”
30 Après le chant de l'hymne, ils s'en allèrent au mont des Oliviers.
They then sang a hymn, and went out to the Mount of Olives.
31 Alors Jésus leur dit: " Je vous serai à tous, cette nuit, une occasion de chute; car il est écrit: Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.
Then Jesus said to them, “Even you will all fall away from me tonight. Scripture says – ‘I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 Mais après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée. "
But, after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.”
33 Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: " Quand vous seriez pour tous une occasion de chute, vous ne le serez jamais pour moi. "
“If everyone else falls away from you,” Peter answered, “I will never fall away!”
34 Jésus lui dit: " Je te le dis en vérité, cette nuit-même, avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. "
“I tell you,” replied Jesus, “that this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times!”
35 Pierre lui répondit: " Quand il me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai pas. " Et tous les autres disciples dirent de même.
“Even if I must die with you,” Peter exclaimed, “I will never disown you!” All the disciples spoke in the same way.
36 Alors Jésus arriva avec eux dans un domaine appelé Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples: " Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je m'éloignerai pour prier. "
Then Jesus came with them to a garden called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit down here while I go and pray over there.”
37 Ayant pris avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, il commença à éprouver de la tristesse et de l'angoisse.
Taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to show signs of sadness and deep distress of mind.
38 Et il leur dit: " Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort; demeurez ici et veillez avec moi. "
“I am sad at heart,” he said, “sad even to death; wait here and watch with me.”
39 Et s'étant un peu avancé, il se prosterna la face contre terre, priant et disant: " Mon Père, s'il est possible, que ce calice passe loin de moi! Cependant, non pas comme je veux, mais comme vous voulez. "
Going on a little further, he threw himself on his face in prayer. “My Father,” he said, “if it is possible, let me be spared this cup; only, not as I will, but as you will.”
40 Il vint ensuite à ses disciples, et, les trouvant endormis, il dit à Pierre: " Ainsi, vous n'avez pu veiller une heure avec moi!
Then he came to his disciples, and found them asleep. “What!” he said to Peter, “could none of you watch with me for one hour?
41 Veillez et priez, afin que vous n'entriez point en tentation; l'esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible. "
Watch and pray so that you don’t fall into temptation. True, the spirit is eager, but human nature is weak.”
42 Il s'éloigna une seconde fois et pria ainsi: " Mon Père, si ce calice ne peut passer sans que je le boive, que votre volonté soit faite! "
Again, a second time, he went away, and prayed. “My Father,” he said, “if I cannot be spared this cup, but must drink it, your will be done!”
43 Étant venu de nouveau, il les trouva encore endormis, car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
And coming back again he found them asleep, for their eyes were heavy.
44 Il les laissa, et s'en alla encore prier pour la troisième fois, disant les mêmes paroles.
So he left them, and went away again, and prayed a third time, again saying the same words.
45 Puis il revint à ses disciples et leur dit: " Dormez maintenant et reposez-vous; voici que l'heure est proche, où le Fils de l'homme va être livré aux mains des pécheurs. —
Then he came to the disciples, and said, “Sleep on now, and rest yourselves. Look – my time is close at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of wicked people.
46 Levez-vous, allons, celui qui me trahit est près d'ici. "
Up, and let us be going. Look! My betrayer is close at hand.”
47 Il parlait encore, lorsque Judas, l'un des Douze, arriva, et avec lui une troupe nombreuse de gens armés d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les Princes des prêtres et les Anciens du peuple.
And, while he was still speaking, Judas, who was one of the Twelve, came in sight; and with him was a great crowd of people, with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Le traître leur avait donné ce signe: " Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui, arrêtez-le. "
Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them. “The man whom I kiss,” he had said, “will be the one; arrest him.”
49 Et aussitôt, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit: " Salut, Maître ", et il le baisa.
So he went up to Jesus at once, and exclaimed, “Welcome, Rabbi!” and kissed him;
50 Jésus lui dit: " Mon ami, pourquoi est-tu ici? " En même temps, ils s'avancèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus et le saisirent.
at which Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you have come for.” The men went up, seized Jesus, and arrested him.
51 Et voilà qu'un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus, mettant l'épée à la main, en frappa le serviteur du grand prêtre et lui emporta l'oreille.
Suddenly one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and striking the high priest’s servant, cut off his ear.
52 Alors Jésus lui dit: " Remets ton épée à sa place; car tous ceux qui se serviront de l'épée, périront par l'épée.
“Sheathe your sword,” Jesus said, “for all who draw the sword will be put to the sword.
53 Penses-tu que je ne puisse pas sur l'heure prier mon Père, qui me donnerait plus de douze légions d'anges?
Do you think that I cannot ask my Father for help, when he would at once send to my aid more than twelve legions of angels?
54 Comment donc s'accompliront les Ecritures, qui attestent qu'il en doit être ainsi? "
But in that case how would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that this must be?”
55 En même temps, Jésus dit à la foule: " Vous êtes venus, comme à un voleur, avec des épées et des bâtons pour me prendre. J'étais tous les jours assis parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas saisi;
Jesus at the same time said to the crowds, “Have you come out, as if after a robber, with swords and clubs, to take me? I have sat teaching day after day in the Temple Courts, and yet you did not arrest me.”
56 mais tout cela s'est fait, afin que s'accomplissent les oracles des prophètes. " Alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite.
The whole of this occurred in fulfillment of the prophetic scriptures. Then the disciples all forsook him and fled.
57 Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus l'emmenèrent chez Caïphe, le grand prêtre, où s'étaient assemblés les Scribes et les Anciens du peuple.
Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the Law and elders had assembled.
58 Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à la cour du grand prêtre, y entra, et s'assit avec les serviteurs pour voir la fin.
Peter followed him at a distance as far as the high priest’s courtyard, to see the outcome.
59 Cependant les Princes des prêtres et tout le Conseil cherchaient quelque faux témoignage contre Jésus afin de le faire mourir;
Meanwhile the chief priests and the whole of the High Council were trying to get such false evidence against Jesus, as would warrant putting him to death,
60 et ils n'en trouvèrent point, quoique plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin il en vint deux
but they did not find any, although many came forward with false evidence. Later on, however, two men came forward and said,
61 qui dirent: " Cet homme a dit: Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours. "
“This man said ‘I am able to destroy the Temple of God, and to build it in three days.’”
62 Le grand prêtre, se levant, dit à Jésus: " Ne réponds-tu rien à ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi? "
Then the high priest stood up, and said to Jesus, “Have you no answer? What is this evidence which these men are giving against you?”
63 Jésus gardait le silence. Et le grand prêtre lui dit: " Je t'adjure par le Dieu vivant de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu? "
But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I order you, by the living God, to tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
64 Jésus lui répondit: " Tu l'as dit; de plus, je vous le dis, dès ce jour vous verrez le Fils de l'homme siéger à la droite du Tout-Puissant et venir sur les nuées du ciel. "
“It is true,” Jesus answered, “Moreover I tell you all that hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the Almighty, and coming on the clouds of the heavens.”
65 Alors le grand prêtre déchira ses vêtements, en disant: " Il a blasphémé, qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? Vous venez d'entendre son blasphème:
Then the high priest tore his robes. “This is blasphemy!” he exclaimed. “Why do we want any more witnesses? You have just heard his blasphemy!
66 que vous en semble? " Ils répondirent: " Il mérite la mort. "
What is your decision?” They answered, “He deserves death.”
67 Alors ils lui crachèrent au visage, et le frappèrent avec le poing; d'autres le souffletèrent,
Then they spat in his face, and struck him, while others dealt blows at him, saying as they did so,
68 en disant: " Christ, devine qui t'a frappé. "
“Now play the prophet for us, you Christ! Who was it that struck you?”
69 Cependant Pierre était dehors, assis dans la cour. Une servante l'aborda et lui dit: " Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen. "
Peter, meanwhile, was sitting outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and exclaimed, “Why, you were with Jesus the Galilean!”
70 Mais il le nia devant tous en disant: " Je ne sais ce que tu veux dire. "
But Peter denied it before them all. “I do not know what you mean,” he replied.
71 Comme il se dirigeait vers le vestibule, pour s'en aller, une autre servante le vit et dit à ceux qui se trouvaient là: " Celui-ci était aussi avec Jésus de Nazareth. "
When he had gone out into the gateway, another maid saw him, and said to those who were there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth!”
72 Et Pierre le nia une seconde fois avec serment: " Je ne connais pas cet homme. "
Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man!”
73 Peu après, ceux qui étaient là s'approchèrent de Pierre, et lui dirent: " Certainement, tu es aussi de ces gens-là; car ton langage même te faire reconnaître. "
But soon afterward those who were standing by came up and said to Peter, “You also are certainly one of them; why, even your way of speaking proves it!”
74 Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer qu'il ne connaissait pas cet homme. Aussitôt le coq chanta.
Then Peter said, “I swear that I do not know the man! May God punish me if I am lying!” At that moment a cock crowed;
75 Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus lui avait dite: " Avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois; " et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.
and Peter remembered the words which Jesus had said – ‘Before a cock has crowed, you will disown me three times’; and he went outside, and wept bitterly.
