Matthieu 20

1 " Car le royaume des cieux est semblable à un père de famille qui sortit de grand matin afin de louer des ouvriers pour sa vigne.

For the kingdom of the heavens, is like, a man, a householder, —who went forth with the morning, to hire labourers into his vineyard;

2 Étant convenu avec les ouvriers d'un denier par jour, il les envoya à sa vigne.

and, when he had agreed with the labourers for a denary the day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3 Il sortit vers la troisième heure et en vit d'autres qui se tenaient sur la place sans rien faire.

And, going forth about the third hour, he saw others, standing in the market-place, unemployed;

4 Il leur dit: Allez aussi à ma vigne, et je vous donnerai ce qui sera juste;

and, to them, he said—ye also, go your way into the vineyard, and, whatsoever may be right, I will give you;

5 et ils y allèrent. Il sortit encore vers la sixième et vers la neuvième heure, et fit la même chose.

and, they, departed. And, again, going forth about the sixth and ninth hour, he did likewise.

6 Enfin, étant sorti vers la onzième heure, il en trouva d'autres qui étaient là oisifs, et il leur dit: Pourquoi vous tenez-vous ici toute la journée sans rien faire?

And, about the eleventh, going forth, he found others, standing, and saith unto them—Why, here, stand ye, all the day, unemployed?

7 Ils lui répondirent: C'est que personne ne nous a loués. Il leur dit: Allez, vous aussi, à ma vigne.

They say unto him—Because, no one, hath hired, us. He saith unto them—Ye also, go your way into the vineyard.

8 Le soir étant venu, le maître de la vigne dit à son intendant: Appelle les ouvriers et paie leur salaire, en allant des derniers aux premiers.

And, when evening came, the master of the vineyard saith unto his steward—Call the labourers, and pay the hire, —beginning from the last, unto the first.

9 Ceux de la onzième heure vinrent et reçurent chacun un denier.

And they of the eleventh hour, coming, received severally a denary.

10 Les premiers, venant à leur tour, pensaient qu'ils recevraient davantage; mais ils reçurent aussi chacun un denier.

And, when the first came, they supposed that, more, they should receive, —and, they also, received severally a denary.

11 En le recevant, ils murmuraient contre le père de famille,

And, having received it, they began to murmur against the householder, saying—

12 en disant: Ces derniers n'ont travaillé qu'une heure, et tu leur donnes autant qu'à nous, qui avons porté le poids du jour et de la chaleur.

These last, one hour, wrought, and thou hast made them, equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day, and the scorching heat.

13 Mais le Maître s'adressant à l'un d'eux, répondit: Mon ami, je ne te fais point d'injustice: n'es-tu pas convenu avec moi d'un denier?

And, he, answering, unto one of them, said, —Friend! I wrong thee not: Was it not, for a denary, thou didst agree with me?

14 Prends ce qui te revient, et va-t'en. Pour moi, je veux donner à ce dernier autant qu'à toi.

Take thine own, and go thy way; but I please, unto this last, to give, as also to thee:

15 Ne m'est-il pas permis de faire de mon bien ce que je veux? Et ton œil sera-t-il mauvais parce que je suis bon?

Is it not allowed me to do, what I please, with my own? or is, thine eye, evil, because I good?

16 Ainsi les derniers seront les premiers, et les premiers, les derniers; car il y a beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus. "

Thus, shall be—The last first, and the first last.

17 Pendant que Jésus montait à Jérusalem, il prit à part les douze disciples et leur dit en chemin:

And, Jesus, being about to go up unto Jerusalem, took unto him the twelve [disciples], apart, and, in the way, he said unto them—

18 " Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem, et le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux Princes des prêtres et aux Scribes. Ils le condamneront à mort,

Lo! we are going up unto Jerusalem; and, the Son of Man, will be delivered up unto the chief-priests and Scribes, and they will condemn him, [to death],

19 et le livreront aux Gentils pour être moqué, flagellé et crucifié; et il ressuscitera le troisième jour. "

And deliver him up unto the nations, to mock and to scourge and to crucify, —and, on the third day, he will, arise.

20 Alors la mère des fils de Zébédée s'approcha de Jésus avec ses fils, et se prosterna devant lui pour lui demander quelque chose.

Then came unto him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, bowing down, and asking something from him.

21 Il lui dit: " Que voulez-vous? " Elle répondit: " Ordonnez que mes deux fils, que voici, soient assis l'un à votre droite, l'autre à votre gauche, dans votre royaume. "

And, he, said to her—What desirest thou? She saith unto him—Bid, that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left, in thy kingdom.

22 Jésus leur dit: " Vous ne savez pas ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire le calice que je dois boire? — Nous le pouvons ", lui dirent-ils.

But Jesus, answering, said—Ye know not what ye are asking: Are ye able to drink the cup, which, I, am about to drink; They say unto him—We are able.

23 Il leur répondit: " Vous boirez en effet mon calice; quant à être assis à ma droite ou à ma gauche, ce n'est pas à moi de l'accorder; si ce n'est à ceux à qui mon Père l'a préparé. "

He saith unto them—My cup, indeed, ye shall drink; but, to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, —except unto those for whom it hath been prepared by my Father.

24 Ayant entendu cela, les dix autres furent indignés contre les deux frères.

And the ten, hearing, were sorely displeased, concerning the two brethren.

25 Mais Jésus les appela et leur dit: " Vous savez que les chefs des nations leur commandent en maîtres, et que les grands exercent l'empire sur elles.

But, Jesus, calling them near, said—Ye know that, the rulers of the nations, lord it over them, and, the great ones, wield authority over them:

26 Il n'en sera pas ainsi parmi vous; mais quiconque veut être grand parmi vous, qu'il se fasse votre serviteur;

Not so, is it, among you, —but, whosoever shall desire, among you, to become, great, shall be, your minister;

27 et quiconque veut être le premier parmi vous, qu'il se fasse votre esclave.

And, whosoever shall desire, among you, to be first, shall be, your servant: —

28 C'est ainsi que le Fils de l'homme est venu, non pour être servi, mais pour servir, et donner sa vie pour la rançon de la multitude. "

Just as, the Son of Man, came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom instead of many.

29 Comme ils sortaient de Jéricho, une grande foule le suivit.

And, as they were going forth from Jericho, there followed him a great multitude;

30 Et voilà que deux aveugles, qui étaient assis sur le bord du chemin, entendant dire que Jésus passait, se mirent à crier: " Seigneur, fils de David, ayez pitié de nous. "

and lo! two blind men, sitting beside the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried aloud saying—Lord! have mercy on us! Son of David!

31 La foule les gourmandait pour les faire taire; mais ils criaient plus fort: " Seigneur, fils de David, ayez pitié de nous. "

But the multitude rebuked them, that they might hold their peace. But, they, the more, cried aloud, saying—Lord, have mercy on us! Son of David!

32 Jésus, s'étant arrêté, les appela et dit: " Que voulez-vous que je vous fasse? —

And, standing still, Jesus called them, and said—What desire ye I should do for you?

33 Seigneur, lui dirent-ils, que nos yeux s'ouvrent. "

They say unto him—Lord! that, our eyes, may open.

34 Emu de compassion, Jésus toucha leurs yeux, et aussitôt ils recouvrèrent la vue et le suivirent.

And, moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, —and, straightway, they recovered sight, and followed him.
