Luc 19
1 Jésus étant entré dans Jéricho, traversait la ville.
Jesus entered Jericho and walked through the town.
2 Et voilà qu'un homme appelé Zachée, — c'était un chef de publicains et il était riche, —
A man was there named Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector. He was very rich.
3 cherchait à voir qui était Jésus; et il ne le pouvait à cause de la foule, car il était de petite taille.
He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he couldn't see over the crowd.
4 Courant donc en avant, il monta sur un sycomore pour le voir, parce qu'il devait passer par là.
So he ran ahead, and climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus as he passed by.
5 Arrivé à cet endroit, Jésus leva les yeux, et l'ayant vu, il lui dit: " Zachée, descends vite, car il faut que je loge aujourd'hui dans ta maison. "
When Jesus got there, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly! I need to stay at your house today.”
6 Zachée se hâta de descendre et le reçut avec joie.
Zacchaeus climbed down quickly and was so happy to welcome Jesus to his home.
7 Voyant cela, ils murmuraient tous en disant: " Il est allé loger chez un pécheur. "
When the people saw this they all complained, “He's gone to stay with such a sinner!”
8 Mais Zachée, se présentant devant le Seigneur, lui dit: " Voici, Seigneur, que je donne aux pauvres la moitié de mes biens; et si j'ai fait tort de quelque chose à quelqu'un, je lui rends le quadruple. "
But Zacchaeus stood up and said before the Lord, “Look, I'm giving half of everything I own to the poor, and if I've cheated anybody, I'll pay them back four times as much!”
9 Jésus lui dit: " Le salut est venu aujourd'hui pour cette maison, parce que celui-ci est aussi un fils d'Abraham.
In response Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man has shown he is a son of Abraham too.
10 Car le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu. "
For the Son of man came to search for and save those who are lost.”
11 Comme ils écoutaient ce discours, il ajouta une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et que le peuple pensait que le royaume de Dieu allait bientôt paraître.
While they were still paying attention, Jesus told them a story for they were close to Jerusalem and the people thought that God's kingdom was going to become a reality right away.
12 Il dit donc: " Un homme de grande naissance s'en alla dans un pays lointain pour être investi de la royauté et revenir ensuite.
“Once there was a nobleman who left home to go to a distant country to be crowned king there, and then to return.
13 Ayant appelé dix de ses serviteurs, il leur donna dix mines, et leur dit: Faites-les valoir, jusqu'à ce que je revienne.
He called ten of his servants, divided money equally among them, and told them, ‘Invest this money until I return.’
14 Mais ses concitoyens le haïssaient, et ils envoyèrent après lui des députés chargés de dire: Nous ne voulons pas que cet homme règne sur nous.
But his people hated him, and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We won't have this man as king over us.’
15 Quand il fut de retour, après avoir été investi de la royauté, il se fit appeler les serviteurs auxquels il avait donné l'argent, pour savoir quel profit chacun en avait tiré.
After he had been crowned king he returned. He ordered his servants brought to him. He wanted to know what profit they had made by investing the money he had given them.
16 Le premier vint et dit: Seigneur, votre mine a gagné dix autres mines.
The first servant came in and said, ‘Lord, your money has earned ten times as much.’
17 Il lui dit: C'est bien, bon serviteur; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, reçois le gouvernement de dix villes.
‘Well done! You're a good servant,’ said the king. ‘Since you proved yourself trustworthy in a very small matter, I'm placing you in charge of ten cities.’
18 Le second vint et dit: Seigneur, votre mine a produit cinq autres mines.
The second servant came in and said, ‘Lord, your money has earned five times as much.’
19 Toi aussi lui dit-il, gouverne cinq villes.
‘I'm placing you in charge of five cities,’ said the king.
20 Puis un autre vint et dit: Seigneur, voici votre mine que j'ai gardée en dépôt dans un linge.
Another servant came in and said, ‘Lord, look, here's your money back. I kept it safe, wrapped up in a cloth.
21 Car j'avais peur de vous, parce que vous êtes un homme rigide: vous retirez ce que vous n'avez pas déposé, et vous moissonnez ce que vous n'avez pas semé.
I was afraid of you because you're a hard man. You take what doesn't belong to you, and you harvest what you didn't plant.’
22 Le roi lui répondit: Je te juge sur tes paroles, méchant serviteur. Tu savais que je suis un homme rigide, retirant ce que je n'ai pas déposé, et moissonnant ce que je n'ai pas semé;
‘I'll judge you by your own words,’ the king replied. ‘You know I'm a hard man, who as you say, takes what doesn't belong to me, and I harvest what I didn't plant.
23 pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas mis mon argent à la banque? Et à mon retour, je l'aurais retiré avec les intérêts.
Why then didn't you deposit my money in the bank, so that when I returned I could have had my money with interest?’
24 Et il dit à ceux qui étaient là: Otez-lui la mine, et donnez-la à celui qui en a dix.
The king told those who were standing beside him, ‘Take the money away from him, and give it to the one who made ten times as much.’
25 — Seigneur, lui dirent-ils, il en a dix. —
‘But master, he already has ten times as much,’ they replied.
26 Je vous le dis, à quiconque possède, on donnera; et à celui qui n'a pas, on ôtera même ce qu'il a.
The king said, ‘I tell you, to those who have, more will be given; but those who do not have, even what they have will be taken away from them.
27 Quant à ces gens qui me haïssent et n'ont pas voulu m'avoir pour roi, amenez-les ici, et égorgez-les en ma présence. "
And as for my enemies who didn't want me to be king over them, bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”
28 Après ce discours, Jésus se mit à marcher en avant, pour monter à Jérusalem.
After he'd finished telling them this story, Jesus left for Jerusalem, walking on ahead.
29 Lorsqu'il approcha de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers la montagne appelée des Oliviers, Jésus envoya deux de ses disciples,
As he approached Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples, telling them:
30 en disant: " Allez au village qui est en face; en y entrant, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel aucun homme ne s'est jamais assis; détachez-le et l'amenez.
“Go to the village farther on. As you enter it you'll find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
31 Et si quelqu'un vous demande pourquoi vous le détachez, vous répondrez: Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin. "
If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
32 Ceux qui étaient envoyés partirent et trouvèrent les choses comme Jésus le leur avait dit.
So the two disciples went and found that everything was just as Jesus had said.
33 Comme ils détachaient l'ânon, ses maîtres leur dirent: " Pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon? "
As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 Ils répondirent: " Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin. "
The disciples replied, “The Lord needs it.”
35 Et ils l'amenèrent à Jésus; puis, ayant jeté leurs manteaux sur l'ânon, ils y firent monter Jésus.
They brought the colt to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks over it, and sat Jesus on its back.
36 A son passage les gens étendaient leurs manteaux sur la route.
As he rode along, people spread their cloaks on the road.
37 Lorsqu'il était déjà près de la descente du mont des Oliviers, toute la foule des disciples, transportés de joie, se mit à louer Dieu à haute voix pour tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus.
As he approached Jerusalem, right where the road goes down from the Mount of Olives, the crowd of disciples all began shouting joyful praises to God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.
38 " Béni soit, disaient-ils, le roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Paix dans le ciel, et gloire au plus haut des cieux! "
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord,” they shouted. “Peace in heaven and glory in highest heaven.”
39 Alors quelques Pharisiens, au milieu de la foule, dirent à Jésus: " Maître, réprimandez vos disciples. "
Some of the Pharisees who were in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, stop your disciples from saying that.”
40 Il leur répondit: " Je vous le dis, si eux se taisent, les pierres crieront. "
But Jesus replied, “I tell you that if they kept quiet then the stones will shout!”
41 Et lorsque, s'étant approché, il aperçut Jérusalem, il pleura sur elle, en disant:
But as he got closer, he saw the city and wept over it.
42 " Si tu connaissais, toi aussi, du moins en ce jour qui t'est donné, ce qui ferait ta paix! Mais maintenant ces choses sont cachées à tes yeux.
“I really wish today that you, even you, had known the path that leads to peace!” he said. “But now it's hidden from your eyes.
43 Viendront sur toi des jours où tes ennemis t'environneront de tranchées, t'investiront et te serreront de toutes parts;
The time is coming upon you when your enemies will besiege you, building ramps to attack you, encircling you and closing you in from every side.
44 ils te renverseront par terre, toi et tes enfants qui sont dans ton sein, et ils ne laisseront pas dans ton enceinte pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as pas connu le temps où tu as été visitée. "
They will smash you to the ground, you and your children within you. They won't leave one stone on another within you, for you refused to accept salvation when it came to you.”
45 Etant entré dans le temple, il se mit à chasser ceux qui y vendaient et y achetaient,
Jesus entered the Temple and began driving out all the people trading there.
46 leur disant: " Il est écrit: Ma maison est une maison de prière, et vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs. "
He told them, “Scriptures state that ‘my house will be a house of prayer,’ but you've turned it into a den of thieves.”
47 Jésus passait les journées à enseigner dans le temple. Et les Princes des prêtres, les Scribes et les principaux du peuple cherchaient à le perdre;
He was teaching in the Temple every day. The chief priests, the religious teachers, and the leaders of the people were trying to kill him.
48 mais ils ne savaient comment s'y prendre, car tout le peuple l'écoutait avec ravissement.
But they couldn't find a way to do it because everyone appreciated him, hanging on his every word.
