Deutéronome 3

1 Nous étant tournés, nous montâmes par le chemin de Basan, et Og, roi de Basan, sortit à notre rencontre, avec tout son peuple, pour nous livrer bataille à Edraï.

Then we turned and went up the way to Bashan. Og, the king of Bashan, came and attacked us, he and all his people, to fight at Edrei.

2 Yahweh me dit: « Ne le crains point, car je l'ai livré entre tes mains, lui et tout son peuple, et son pays; tu le traiteras comme tu as traité Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui habitait à Hésebon. »

Yahweh said to me, 'Do not fear him; for I have given you victory over him and have put all his people and his land under your control. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.'

3 Et Yahweh, notre Dieu, livra aussi entre nos mains Og, roi de Basan, avec tout son peuple; nous le battîmes jusqu'à ce qu'il ne lui restât plus aucun de ses gens.

So Yahweh our God also gave us victory over Og the king of Bashan, and all his people were put under our control. We struck them down until not one of his people remained.

4 Nous prîmes alors toutes ses villes, et il n'y en eut pas une qui ne tombât entre notre pouvoir: soixante villes, toute la région d'Argob, le royaume d'Og en Basan.

We took all his cities at that time. There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5 Toutes ces villes étaient fortifiées, avec de hautes murailles, des portes et des barres; sans compter les villes sans murailles, en très grand nombre.

These were all cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; this was besides very many unwalled villages.

6 Nous les dévouâmes par anathème, comme nous l'avions fait pour Séhon, roi de Hésebon, dévouant par anathème villes, hommes, femmes et enfants.

We completely destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, completely destroying every city—men and the women and the little ones.

7 Mais nous pillâmes pour nous tout le bétail et le butin des villes.

But all the cattle and the spoil of the cities, we took as spoils for ourselves.

8 Ainsi, dans ce temps-là, nous prîmes aux deux rois des Amorrhéens le pays qui est au-delà du Jourdain, depuis le torrent de l'Arnon jusqu'à la montagne d'Hermon.

At that time we took the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, from the Valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon

9 — Les Sidoniens appellent l'Hermon Sarion, et les Amorrhéens Sanir; —

(Mount Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir)

10 toutes les villes de la plaine, tout Galaad et tout Basan, jusqu'à Selcha et Edraï, villes du royaume d'Og en Basan.

and all the cities of the plain, all Gilead, and all Bashan, all the way to Salekah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.”

11 Car Og, roi de Basan, était resté seul de la race des Rephaïm. Voici, son lit, un lit en fer, n'est-il pas à Rabbath, ville des enfants d'Ammon? Sa longueur est de neuf coudées, et sa largeur de quatre coudées, en coudées d'homme.

(For of the remnant of the Rephaim, only Og king of Bashan had remained. Look! His bed was a bed of iron. Was it not in Rabbah, where the descendants of Ammon live? It was nine cubits long and four cubits wide, the way people measure.)

12 Nous prîmes alors possession de ce pays. Je donnai aux Rubénites et aux Gadites le territoire à partir d'Aroër qui domine la vallée de l'Arnon, ainsi que la moitié de la montagne de Galaad avec ses villes.

“This land that we took in possession at that time—from Aroer, that is by the Valley of the Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead, and its cities—I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 Je donnai à la demi-tribu de Manassé le reste de Galaad et toute la partie de Basan formant le royaume d'Og. — Toute la contrée d'Argob, avec tout Basan, c'est ce qu'on appelle le pays des Rephaïm.

The rest of Gilead and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh. (All the region of Argob, and all Bashan. The same territory is called the land of Rephaim.

14 Jaïr, fils de Manassé, obtint toute la contrée d'Argob jusqu'à la frontière des Gessuriens et des Macathiens, et il donna son nom aux bourgs de Basan, appelés Bourgs de Jaïr, jusqu'à ce jour. —

Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took all the region of Argob to the border of the Geshurites and the Maakathites. He called the region, even Bashan, by his own name, Havvoth Jair, to this day.)

15 Je donnai Galaad à Machir.

I gave Gilead to Machir.

16 Aux Rubénites et aux Gadites, je donnai une partie de Galaad et le pays jusqu'au torrent de l'Arnon, le milieu de la vallée servant de limite, et jusqu'au torrent de Jaboc, frontière des enfants d'Ammon,

To the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave territory from Gilead to the Valley of the Arnon—the middle of the valley is the territory's border—and to the Jabbok River, which is the border with the descendants of Ammon.

17 ainsi que l'Arabah, avec le Jourdain pour limite, depuis Cénéreth jusqu'à la mer de l'Arabah, la mer Salée, au pied des pentes du Phasga, vers l'Orient.

Another of its borders is also the plain of the Jordan River valley, from Kinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Salt Sea) to the slopes of Mount Pisgah eastward.

18 En ce temps-là, je vous donnai cet ordre: « Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous à donné ce pays pour qu'il soit votre propriété; vous tous, hommes forts, vous marcherez en armes devant vos frères, les enfants d'Israël.

I commanded you at that time, saying, 'Yahweh your God has given you this land to possess it; you, all the men of war, will pass over armed before your brothers, the people of Israel.

19 Vos femmes seulement, vos petits enfants et vos troupeaux, — je sais que vous avez de nombreux troupeaux, — resteront dans les villes que je vous ai données,

But your wives, your little ones, and your cattle (I know that you have much cattle), will stay in your cities that I have given you,

20 jusqu'à ce que Yahweh ait accordé le repos à vos frères comme à vous, et qu'ils possèdent, eux aussi, le pays que Yahweh, votre Dieu, leur donne de l'autre côté du Jourdain. Alors vous retournerez chacun dans l'héritage que je vous ai donné. »

until Yahweh gives rest to your brothers, as he has to you, until they also possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving them beyond the Jordan; then will you return, every man of you, to your own property that I have given you.'

21 En ce temps-là, je donnai aussi des ordres à Josué, en disant: « Tes yeux ont vu tout ce que Yahweh, votre Dieu, a fait à ces deux rois: ainsi fera Yahweh à tous les royaumes contre lesquels tu vas marcher.

I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, 'Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to these two kings; Yahweh will do the same to all the kingdoms where you go over.

22 Ne les craignez point; car Yahweh, votre Dieu, combat lui-même pour vous. »

You will not fear them, for Yahweh your God is the one who will fight for you.'

23 En ce temps-là, je suppliai Yahweh, en disant:

I implored Yahweh at that time, saying,

24 « Seigneur Yahweh, vous avez commencé à montrer à votre serviteur votre grandeur et votre main puissante; car quel Dieu y a-t-il, au ciel et sur la terre, qui puisse accomplir vos œuvres et vos hauts faits?

'O Lord Yahweh, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or in earth that can do the same works as you have done, and the same mighty acts?

25 Que je passe, je vous prie, que je voie ce bon pays au-delà du Jourdain, cette belle montagne et le Liban! »

Let me go over, I beg you, and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country, and also Lebanon.'

26 Mais Yahweh s'irrita contre moi, à cause de vous, et il ne m'exauça point. Yahweh me dit: « C'est assez, ne me parle plus de cette affaire.

But Yahweh was angry with me because of you; he did not listen to me. Yahweh said to me, 'Let this be enough for you—speak no more to me about this matter:

27 Monte au sommet du Phasga, porte tes regards vers l'occident, vers le nord, vers le midi et vers l'orient, et contemple de tes yeux; car tu ne passeras pas ce Jourdain.

go up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes westward, northward, southward, and eastward; look with your eyes, for you will not go over the Jordan.

28 Donne des ordres à Josué, fortifie le et encourage-le, car c'est lui qui marchera devant ce peuple et qui le mettra en possession du pays que tu verras. »

Instead, instruct Joshua and encourage and strengthen him, for he will go over before this people, and he will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.'

29 Nous demeurâmes dans la vallée, vis-à-vis de Beth-Phogor.

So we stayed in the valley opposite Beth Peor.
