Actes 7
1 Le grand prêtre lui demanda: " En est-il bien ainsi? "
Then sayde ye chefe prest: is it even so?
2 Etienne répondit: " Mes frères et mes pères, écoutez. Le Dieu de gloire apparut à notre père Abraham, lorsqu'il était en Mésopotamie, avant qu'il vint demeurer à Haran,
And he sayde: ye men brethren and fathers harken to. The God of glory appered vnto oure father Abraha whyll he was yet in Mesopotamia before he dwelt in Charran
3 et lui dit: " Quitte ton pays et ta famille, et va dans le pays que je te montrerai. "
and sayd vnto him: come out of thy contre and from thy kynred and come into the londe which I shall shewe the.
4 Alors il quitta le pays des Chaldéens et s'établit à Haran. De là, après la mort de son père, Dieu le fit émigrer dans ce pays que vous habitez maintenant.
Then came he out of the londe of Chaldey and dwelt in Charran. And after that assone as his father was deed he brought him into this lande in which ye now dwell
5 Et il ne lui donna aucune propriété dans ce pays, pas même où poser le pied; mais il lui promit, à une époque où le patriarche n'avait pas d'enfants, de lui en donner la possession, à lui et à sa postérité après lui.
and he gave him none inheritaunce in it no not the bredeth of a fote: but promised yt he wolde geve it to him to possesse and to his seed after him when as yet he had no chylde.
6 Dieu parla ainsi: " Sa postérité habitera en pays étranger; on la réduira en servitude, et on la maltraitera pendant quatre cents ans.
God verely spake on this wyse that his seade shulde be a dweller in a straunge londe and that they shulde kepe them in bondage and entreate them evyll. iiii. C. yeares.
7 Mais la nation qui les aura tenus en esclavage, c'est moi qui la jugerai, dit le Seigneur. Après quoi ils sortiront et me serviront en ce lieu. " —
But the nacion to whom they shalbe in bondage will I iudge sayde God. And after that shall they come forthe and serve me in this place.
8 Puis il donna à Abraham l'alliance de la circoncision; et ainsi Abraham après avoir engendré Isaac le circoncit le huitième jour; Isaac engendra et circoncit Jacob, et Jacob les douze patriarches.
And he gave him the covenaunt of circumcision. And he begat Isaac and circumcised him the viii. daye and Isaac begat Iacob and Iacob the twelve patriarkes
9 Poussés par la jalousie, les patriarches vendirent Joseph pour être emmené en Egypte. Mais Dieu était avec lui,
And the patriarkes havinge indignacio solde Ioseph into Egipte. And God was with him
10 et il le délivra de toutes ses épreuves, et lui donna grâce et sagesse devant Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, qui le mit à la tête de l'Egypte et de toute sa maison.
and delivered him out of all his adversities. And gave him faveour and wisdome in the sight of Pharao kynge of Egipte which made him governer over Egipte and over all his housholde.
11 Or il survint une famine dans tout le pays d'Egypte et dans celui de Chanaan. La détresse était grande, et nos pères ne trouvaient pas de quoi se nourrir.
Then came ther a derth over all the londe of Egipt and Canaan and great affliccion that our fathers founde no sustenauce.
12 Jacob, ayant appris qu'il y avait des vivres en Egypte, y envoya nos pères une première fois.
But when Iacob hearde that ther was corne in Egipte he sent oure fathers fyrst
13 Et la seconde fois, Joseph fut reconnu par ses frères, et Pharaon sut quelle était son origine.
and at the seconde tyme Ioseph was knowen of his brethren and Iosephs kynred was made knowne vnto Pharao.
14 Alors Joseph envoya chercher son père Jacob et toute sa famille, composée de soixante-quinze personnes.
Then sent Ioseph and caused his father to be brought and all his kynne thre score and xv. soules.
15 Et Jacob descendit en Egypte, où il mourut, ainsi que nos pères.
And Iacob descended into Egipte and dyed bothe he and oure fathers
16 Et ils furent transportés à Sichem, et déposés dans le sépulcre qu'Abraham avait acheté à prix d'argent des fils d'Hémor, à Sichem.
and were translated into Sichem ond were put in ye sepulcre that Abraham bought for money of the sonnes of Emor at Sichem.
17 Comme le temps approchait où devait s'accomplir la promesse que Dieu avait jurée à Abraham, le peuple s'accrut et se multiplia en Egypte,
When ye tyme of ye promes drue nye (which God had sworme to Abraham) the people grewe and multiplied in Egipte
18 jusqu'à ce que parut dans ce pays un autre roi qui n'avait pas connu Joseph.
till another kynge arose which knewe not of Ioseph.
19 Ce roi, usant d'artifice envers notre race, maltraita nos pères, au point de leur faire exposer leurs enfants, afin qu'ils ne vécussent pas.
The same dealte suttelly with oure kynred and evyll intreated oure fathers and made them to cast oute their younge chyldren that they shuld not remayne alyve.
20 A cette époque naquit Moïse, qui était beau aux yeux de Dieu; il fut nourri trois mois dans la maison de son père.
The same tyme was Moses borne and was a proper childe in ye sight of God which was norisshed vp in his fathers housse thre monethes.
21 Et quand il eut été exposé, la fille de Pharaon le recueillit et l'éleva comme son fils.
When he was cast out Pharoes doughter toke him vp and norisshed him vp for her awne sonne.
22 Moïse fut instruit dans toute la sagesse des Egyptiens, et il était puissant en paroles et en œuvres.
And Moses was learned in all maner wisdome of the Egipcians and was mighty in dedes and in wordes.
23 Quand il eut atteint l'âge de quarante ans, il lui vint dans l'esprit de visiter ses frères, les enfants d'Israël.
And when he was full forty yeare olde it came into his hert to visit his brethren the chyldren of Israhel.
24 Il en vit un qu'on outrageait; prenant sa défense, il vengea l'opprimé en tuant l'Egyptien.
And when he sawe one of them suffre wronge he defended him and avenged his quarell that had the harme done to him and smote the Egypcian.
25 Or il pensait que ses frères comprendraient que Dieu leur accordait la délivrance par sa main; mais ils ne le comprirent pas.
For he supposed hys brethren wolde have vnderstonde how yt God by his hondes shuld save them But they vnderstode not.
26 Le jour suivant, en ayant rencontré deux qui se battaient, il les exhorta à la paix en disant: " Hommes, vous êtes frères: pourquoi vous maltraiter l'un l'autre? "
And the next daye he shewed him selfe vnto the as they strove and wolde have set the at one agayne sayinge: Syrs ye are brethren why hurte ye one another?
27 Mais celui qui maltraitait son prochain le repoussa, en disant: " Qui t'a établi chef et juge sur nous?
But he that dyd his neghbour wronge thrust him awaye sayinge: who made ye a rular and a iudge amonge vs?
28 Veux-tu me tuer, comme tu as tué hier l'Egyptien? "
What wilt thou kyll me as thou dyddest the Egyptian yester daye?
29 A cette parole, Moïse s'enfuit et alla habiter dans la terre de Madian, où il engendra deux fils.
Then fleed Moses at that sayenge and was a stranger in the londe of Madian where he begat two sonnes.
30 Quarante ans après, au désert du mont Sinaï, un ange lui apparut dans la flamme d'un buisson en feu.
And when. xl. yeares were expired ther appered to him in the wyldernes of mounte Syna an angell of the Lorde in a flamme of fyre in a busshe.
31 A cette vue, Moïse fut saisi d'étonnement, et comme il s'approchait pour examiner, la voix du Seigneur se fit entendre [à lui]:
When Moses sawe it he wondred at the syght. And as he drue neare to beholde the voyce of the Lorde came vnto him:
32 " Je suis le Dieu de tes pères, le Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob. " — Et Moïse tout tremblant n'osait regarder.
I am ye God of thy fathers the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Iacob. Moses trembled and durst not beholde.
33 Alors le seigneur lui dit: " Ote la chaussure de tes pieds, car le lieu que tu foules est une terre sainte.
Then sayde ye Lorde to him: Put of thy showes from thy fete for the place where thou stondest is holy grounde.
34 J'ai vu l'affliction de mon peuple qui est en Egypte, j'ai entendu ses gémissements, et je suis descendu pour le délivrer. Viens donc maintenant et je t'enverrai en Egypte. " —
I have perfectly sene the affliccion of my people which is in Egypte and I have hearde their gronynge and am come doune to delyver them. And now come and I will sende the into Egypte.
35 Ce Moïse qu'ils avaient renié en disant: Qui t'a établi chef et juge? c'est lui que Dieu a envoyé comme chef et libérateur, avec l'assistance de l'ange qui lui était apparu dans le buisson.
This Moses whom they forsoke sayinge: who made the a ruelar and a iudge: the same God sent bothe a ruler and delyverer by ye hondes of the angell which appered to him in the busshe.
36 C'est lui qui les a fait sortir, en opérant des prodiges et des miracles dans la terre d'Egypte, dans la mer Rouge et au désert pendant quarante ans.
And the same brought them out shewynge wonders and signes in Egypte and in the reed see and in the wyldernes. xl. yeares.
37 C'est ce Moïse qui dit aux enfants d'Israël: " Dieu vous suscitera d'entre vos frères un prophète comme moi [: écoutez-le]. "
This is that Moses which sayde vnto the chyldre of Israel: A Prophet shall the Lorde youre God rayse vp vnto you of youre brethren lyke vnto me him shall ye heare.
38 C'est lui qui, au milieu de l'assemblée, au désert, conférant avec l'ange qui lui parlait sur le mont Sinaï, et avec nos pères, a reçu des oracles vivants pour nous les transmettre.
This is he that was in ye congregacion in the wyldernes with the angell which spake to him in ye moute Syna and with oure fathers. This man receaved the worde of lyfe to geve vnto vs
39 Nos pères, loin de vouloir lui obéir, le repoussèrent, et, retournant de cœur en Egypte,
to who oure fathers wolde not obeye but cast it from them and in their hertes turned backe agayne into Egypte
40 ils dirent à Aaron: " Fais-nous des dieux qui marchent devant nous; car ce Moïse qui nous a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, nous ne savons ce qu'il est devenu. "
sayinge vnto Aaron: Make vs goddes to goo before vs. For this Moses that brought vs out of the londe of Egypte we wote not what is become of him.
41 Ils fabriquèrent alors un veau d'or, et ils offrirent un sacrifice à l'idole et se réjouirent de l'œuvre de leurs mains.
And they made a calfe in those dayes and offered sacrifice vnto the ymage and reioysed in the workes of their awne hondes.
42 Mais Dieu se détourna et les livra au culte de l'armée du ciel, selon qu'il est écrit au livre des prophètes: " M'avez-vous offert des victimes et des sacrifices pendant quarante ans au désert, maison d'Israël...?
Then God turned him selfe and gave them vp that they shuld worship the starres of the skye as it is written in the boke of the prophetes. O ye of ye housse of Israel gave ye to me sacrefices and meate offerynges by the space of xl. yeares in the wildernes?
43 Vous avez porté la tente de Moloch et l'astre de votre dieu Raiphan, ces images que vous avez faites pour les adorer! C'est pourquoi je vous transporterai au delà de Babylone. " —
And ye toke vnto you the tabernacle of Moloch and the starre of youre god Remphan figures which ye made to worshippe them. And I will translate you beyonde Babylon.
44 Nos pères dans le désert avaient le tabernacle du témoignage, comme l'avait ordonné celui qui dit à Moïse de le construire selon le modèle qu'il avait vu.
Oure fathers had the tabernacle of witnes in ye wyldernes as he had apoynted the speakynge vnto Moses that he shuld make it acordynge to the fassion that he had sene.
45 L'ayant reçu de Moïse, nos pères l'apportèrent, sous la conduite de Josué, lorsqu'ils firent la conquête du pays sur les nations que Dieu chassa devant eux, et il y subsista jusqu'aux jours de David.
Which tabernacle oure fathers receaved and brought it in with Iosue into the possession of the gentyls which God drave out before the face of oure fathers vnto the tyme of David
46 Ce roi trouva grâce devant Dieu, et demanda d'élever une demeure pour le Dieu de Jacob.
which founde favour before God and desyred that he myght fynde a tabernacle for the God of Iacob.
47 Néanmoins ce fut Salomon qui lui bâtit un temple.
But Salomon bylt him an housse.
48 Mais le Très-Haut n'habite pas dans les temples faits de main d'homme, selon la parole du prophète:
How be it he that is hyest of all dwelleth not in teple made with hondes as saith the Prophete:
49 " Le ciel est mon trône, et la terre l'escabeau de mes pieds. Quelle demeure me bâtirez-vous, dit le Seigneur, ou quel sera le lieu de mon repos?
Heven is my seate and erth is my fote stole what housse will ye bylde for me sayth the Lorde? or what place is it that I shuld rest in?
50 N'est-ce pas ma main qui a fait toutes ces choses? " —
hath not my honde made all these thinges?
51 Hommes à la tête dure, incirconcis de cœur et d'oreilles, vous résistez toujours au Saint-Esprit; tels furent vos pères, tels vous êtes.
Ye stiffenecked and of vncircumcised hertes and eares: ye have all wayes resisted the holy goost: as youre fathers dyd so do ye.
52 Quel prophète vos pères n'ont-ils pas persécuté? Ils ont même tué ceux qui annonçaient d'avance la venue du Juste; et vous, aujourd'hui, vous l'avez trahi et mis à mort.
Which of the prophetes have not youre fathers persecuted? And they have slayne them which shewed before of the commynge of that iust whom ye have now betrayed and mordred.
53 Vous qui avez reçu la Loi, en considération des anges qui vous l'intimaient, et vous ne l'avez pas gardée!... "
And ye also have receaved a lawe by the ordinaunce of angels and have not kept it.
54 En entendant ces paroles, la rage déchirait leurs cœurs, et ils grinçaient des dents contre lui.
When they hearde these thinges their hertes clave a sunder and they gnasshed on him with their tethe.
55 Mais Etienne, qui était rempli de l'Esprit-Saint, ayant fixé les yeux au ciel, vit la gloire de Dieu, et Jésus debout à la droite de son Père.
But he beynge full of the holy goost loked vp stedfastlye with his eyes into heven and sawe the glorie of God and Iesus stondynge on the ryght honde of God
56 Et il dit: " Voici que je vois les cieux ouverts, et le Fils de l'homme debout à la droite de Dieu. "
and sayde: beholde I se the hevens open and the sonne of man stondynge on the ryght honde of god.
57 Les Juifs poussèrent alors de grands cris, en se bouchant les oreilles, et se jetèrent tous ensemble sur lui.
Then they gave a shute with a loude voyce and stopped their eares and ranne apon him all at once
58 Et l'ayant entraîné hors de la ville, ils le lapidèrent. Les témoins déposèrent leurs vêtements aux pieds d'un jeune homme nommé Saul.
and caste him out of the cite and stoned him. And the witnesses layde doune their clothes at a yonge mannes fete named Saul.
59 Pendant qu'ils le lapidaient, Etienne priait en disant: " Seigneur Jésus, recevez mon esprit! "
And they stoned Steven callynge on and sayinge: Lorde Iesu receave my sprete.
60 Puis s'étant mis à genoux, il s'écria d'une voix forte: " Seigneur, ne leur imputez pas ce péché. " Après cette parole, il s'endormit [dans le Seigneur]. Or, Saul avait approuvé le meurtre d'Etienne.
And he kneled doune and cryed with a loude voyce: Lorde laye not this synne to their charge. And when he had thus spoken he fell a slepe.
