Actes 26
1 Agrippa dit à Paul: " Tu as la parole pour ta défense. " Alors Paul, étendant la main, se justifia en ces termes:
Agrippa sayde vnto Paul: thou arte permitted to speake for thy selfe. Then Paul stretched forth the honde and answered for him selfe.
2 " Je m'estime heureux, roi Agrippa, d'avoir aujourd'hui à me justifier devant toi de toutes les accusations portées contre moi par les Juifs;
I thynke my selfe happy kynge Agrippa because I shall answere this daye before the of all the thinges wherof I am accused of ye Iewes
3 car tu connais mieux que personne leurs coutumes et leurs controverses. Je te prie donc de m'écouter avec patience.
namely because thou arte experte in all customes and questions which are amonge the Iewes. Wherfore I beseche the to heare me paciently.
4 Ma vie, dès les premiers temps de ma jeunesse, est connue de tous les Juifs, puisqu'elle s'est passée à Jérusalem, au milieu de ma nation.
My lyvynge of a chylde which was at the fyrst amoge myne awne nacion at Ierusalem knowe all the Iewes
5 Me connaissant ainsi depuis longtemps, ils savent, s'ils veulent en rendre témoignage, que j'ai vécu en pharisien selon la secte la plus austère de notre religion.
which knew me from ye beginnynge yf they wolde testifie it. For after the most straytest secte of oure laye lyved I a pharisaye.
6 Et maintenant je suis mis en jugement parce que j'espère en la promesse que Dieu a faite à nos pères,
And now I stond and am iudged for the hope of the promes made of God vnto oure fathers:
7 promesse dont nos douze tribus, en servant Dieu sans relâche, nuit et jour, attendent la réalisation. C'est pour cette espérance, ô roi, que les Juifs m'accusent!
vnto which promes oure. xii. tribes instantly servynge God daye and nyght hope to come. For which hopes sake kynge Agrippa am I accused of the Iewes.
8 Vous semble-t-il donc incroyable que Dieu ressuscite les morts?
Why shuld it be thought a thinge vncredible vnto you that god shuld rayse agayne the deed?
9 Moi aussi j'avais cru que je devais m'opposer de toutes mes forces au nom de Jésus de Nazareth.
I also verely thought in my selfe that I ought to do many cotrary thinges clene agaynst the name of Iesus of Nazareth:
10 C'est ce que j'ai fait à Jérusalem; j'ai fait enfermer dans les prisons un grand nombre de saints, en ayant reçu le pouvoir des princes des prêtres; et quand on les mettait à mort, j'y donnais mon suffrage.
which thinge I also dyd in Ierusalem. Where many of the sainctes I shut vp in preson and had receaved auctorite of ye hye prestes. And whe they were put to deeth I gave the sentence.
11 Souvent, parcourant toutes les synagogues et sévissant contre eux, je les ai forcés de blasphémer; et ma fureur allant toujours croissant, je les poursuivais jusque dans les villes étrangères.
And I punysshed them ofte in every synagoge and compelled them to blaspheme: and was yet more mad apon them and persecuted the even vnto straunge cities.
12 Comme j'allais ainsi à Damas, avec de pleins pouvoirs et un mandat des chefs des prêtres,
About the which thinges as I went to Damasco with auctorite and licence of the hye Prestes
13 vers le milieu du jour, je vis sur le chemin, ô roi, une lumière venant du ciel, plus éclatante que celle du soleil, resplendir autour de moi et de mes compagnons.
even at myddaye (o kynge) I sawe in ye waye a lyght from heven above the brightnes of the sunne shyne rounde about me and them which iorneyed with me.
14 Nous tombâmes tous par terre, et j'entendis une voix qui me disait en langue hébraïque: Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? Il te serait dur de regimber contre l'aiguillon. —
When we were all fallen to the erth I hearde a voyce speakynge vnto me and sayinge in ye Hebrue tonge: Saul Saul why persecutest thou me? It is harde for the to kicke agaynste the pricke.
15 Qui êtes-vous, Seigneur? m'écriai-je. Et le Seigneur dit: Je suis Jésus, que tu persécutes.
And I sayde: Who arte thou lorde? And he sayde I am Iesus whom thou persecutest.
16 Mais relève-toi, et tiens-toi ferme sur tes pieds, car je t'ai apparu, afin de te constituer ministre et témoin des choses que tu as vues et de celles pour lesquelles je t'apparaîtrai encore.
But ryse and stond vp on thy fete. For I have apered vnto the for this purpose to make the a minister and a witnes both of tho thinges which thou hast sene and of tho thinges in the which I will appere vnto the
17 Je t'ai tiré du milieu de ce peuple et des Gentils auxquels maintenant je t'envoie,
delyverynge the from the people and from ye gentyls vnto which nowe I sende the
18 pour leur ouvrir les yeux, afin qu'ils passent des ténèbres à la lumière, et de la puissance de Satan à Dieu, et qu'ainsi, par la foi en moi, ils reçoivent la rémission des péchés et l'héritage avec les sanctifiés.
to open their eyes that they myght turne from darcknes vnto lyght and from the power of Satan vnto God that they maye receave forgevenes of synnes and inheritauce amonge the which are sanctified by fayth in me.
19 Je n'ai donc pas résisté, roi Agrippa, à la vision céleste;
Wherfore kynge Agrippa I was not disobedient vnto the hevenly vision:
20 mais d'abord j'ai prêché, à ceux de Damas, puis à Jérusalem, et dans toute la Judée, et parmi les Gentils, le repentir et la conversion à Dieu, par la pratique d'œuvres dignes de la pénitence.
but shewed fyrst vnto them of Damasco and at Ierusalem and thorow out all the costes of Iewry and to the gentyls that they shuld repent and turne to God and do the ryght workes of repentaunce.
21 Voilà pourquoi les Juifs se sont saisis de moi dans le temple et ont essayé de me faire périr.
For this cause the Iewes caught me in the temple and went about to kyll me.
22 C'est donc grâce au secours de Dieu que je suis resté debout jusqu'à ce jour, rendant témoignage devant les petits et les grands, sans dire autre chose que ce que Moïse et les prophètes ont prédit,
Neverthelesse I obtayned helpe of God and cotynew vnto this daye witnessyng bothe to small and to greate saying none other thinges then those which the prophetes and Moses dyd saye shuld come
23 savoir, que le Christ devait souffrir, et que, ressuscité le premier d'entre les morts, il annoncerait la lumière au peuple et aux Gentils... "
that Christ shulde suffre and that he shuld be the fyrst that shulde ryse from deeth and shuld shewe lyght vnto the people and the gentyls.
24 Comme il parlait ainsi pour sa défense, Festus dit à haute voix: " Tu déraisonnes, Paul; ton grand savoir égare ton esprit. "
As he thus answered for him selfe: Festus sayde with a lowde voyce: Paul thou arte besides thy selfe. Moche learnynge hath made the mad.
25 " Je ne déraisonne pas, très excellent Festus, répondit Paul; je parle le langage de la vérité et de la sagesse.
And Paul sayde: I am not mad most dere Festus: but speake the wordes of trueth and sobernes.
26 Le roi est instruit de ces choses, et je lui en parle librement, persuadé qu'il n'en ignore aucune; car rien de tout cela ne s'est passé dans un coin.
The kynge knoweth of these thinges before whom I speke frely: nether thynke I that eny of these thinges are hydden fro him. For this thinge was not done in a corner.
27 Crois-tu aux prophètes, roi Agrippa? Je sais que tu y crois. "
Kynge Agrippa belevest thou ye prophetes? I wote well thou belevest.
28 Agrippa dit à Paul: " Peu s'en faut que tu ne me persuades de devenir chrétien. " —
Agrippa sayde vnto Paul: Sumwhat thou bringest me in mynde for to be come a Christen.
29 " Qu'il s'en faille de peu ou de beaucoup, repartit Paul, plût à Dieu que non seulement toi, mais encore tous ceux qui m'écoutent en ce moment, vous fussiez tels que je suis, à l'exception de ces chaînes! "
And Paul sayd: I wolde to God that not only thou: but also all that heare me to daye were not sumwhat only but altogeder soche as I am except these bondes.
30 Alors le roi se leva, et avec lui le gouverneur, Bérénice et toute leur suite.
And when he had thus spoken the kynge rose vp and the debite and Bernice and they that sate with them.
31 S'étant retirés, ils se disaient les uns aux autres: " Cet homme n'a rien fait qui mérite la mort ou la prison. "
And when they were gone aparte they talked betwene them selves sayinge: This man doeth nothinge worthy of deeth nor of bondes.
32 Et Agrippa dit à Festus: " On pourrait le relâcher, s'il n'en avait pas appelé à César. "
Then sayde Agrippa vnto Festus: This man myght have bene lowsed yf he had not appealed vnto Cesar.
