Actes 10
1 Il y avait à Césarée un homme nommé Corneille, centurion dans la cohorte Italique,
Ther was a certayne man in Cesarea called Cornelius a captayne of ye soudiers of Italy
2 Religieux et craignant Dieu, ainsi que toute sa maison, il faisait beaucoup d'aumônes au peuple et priait Dieu sans cesse.
a devoute man and one yt feared God wt all his housholde which gave moche almes to the people and prayde God alwaye.
3 Dans une vision, vers la neuvième heure du jour, il vit clairement un ange de Dieu qui entra chez lui et lui dit: " Corneille! "
The same man sawe in a vision evydetly aboute ye nynthe houre of ye daye an angell of god comynge into him and sayinge vnto him: Cornelius.
4 Fixant les yeux sur l'ange et saisi d'effroi, il s'écria: " Qu'est-ce, Seigneur? " L'ange lui répondit: " Tes prières et tes aumônes sont montées devant Dieu comme un mémorial.
When he looked on him he was afrayde and sayde: what is it lorde? He sayde vnto him. Thy prayers and thy almeses ar come vp into remembraunce before God.
5 Et maintenant envoie des hommes à Joppé, et fais venir un certain Simon, surnommé Pierre;
And now sende men to Ioppa and call for one Simon named also Peter.
6 il est logé chez un corroyeur, appelé Simon, dont la maison est située auprès de la mer. "
He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner whose housse is by ye see syde. He shall tell the what thou oughtest to doo.
7 L'ange qui lui parlait étant parti, Corneille appela deux de ses serviteurs et un soldat pieux parmi ceux qui étaient attachés à sa personne,
When the angell which spake vnto Cornelius was departed he called two of his housholde servauntes and a devoute soudier of them that wayted on him
8 et après leur avoir tout raconté, il les envoya à Joppé.
and tolde them all the mater and sent them to Ioppa.
9 Le jour suivant, comme les messagers étaient en route et qu'ils s'approchaient de la ville, Pierre monta sur le toit, vers la sixième heure, pour prier.
On the morowe as they wet on their iorney and drewe nye vnto the cite Peter went vp into the toppe of ye housse to praye aboute the. vi. houre.
10 Puis, ayant faim, il désirait manger. Pendant qu'on lui préparait son repas, il tomba en extase:
Then wexed he an hongred and wolde have eate. But whyll they made redy. He fell into a trauce
11 il vit le ciel ouvert, et quelque chose en descendre, comme une grande nappe, attachée par les quatre coins et s'abaissant vers la terre;
and sawe heven opened and a certayne vessell come doune vnto him as it had bene a greate shete knyt at the. iiii. corners and was let doune to the erth
12 à l'intérieur se trouvaient tous les quadrupèdes et les reptiles de la terre, et les oiseaux du ciel.
where in wer all maner of. iiii. foted beastes of the erth and vermen and wormes and foules of the ayer.
13 Et une voix lui dit: " Lèvre-toi, Pierre; tue et mange. "
And ther came a voyce to him: ryse Peter kyll and eate.
14 Pierre répondit: " Oh! non, Seigneur, car jamais je n'ai rien mangé de profane ni d'impur. "
But Peter sayde: God forbyd Lorde for I have never eaten eny thinge that is comen or vnclene.
15 Et une voix lui parla de nouveau: " Ce que Dieu a déclaré pur, ne l'appelle pas profane. "
And the voyce spake vnto him agayne the seconde tyme: what God hath clensed that make thou not comen.
16 Cela se fit par trois fois, et aussitôt après la nappe fut retirée dans le ciel.
This was done thryse and the vessell was receaved vp agayne into heven.
17 Or Pierre cherchait en lui-même ce que pouvait signifier la vision qu'il avait eue, et voici que les hommes envoyés par Corneille, s'étant informés de la maison de Simon, se présentèrent à la porte;
Whyle Peter mused in him selfe what this vision which he had sene meant beholde the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquirance for Simons housse and stode before the dore.
18 et ayant appelé, ils demandèrent si c'était là qu'était logé Simon, surnommé Pierre.
And called out won and axed whether Simon which was also called Peter were lodged there.
19 Et comme Pierre était à réfléchir sur la vision, l'Esprit lui dit: " Voici trois hommes qui te cherchent.
Whyll Peter thought on this vision the sprete sayde vnto him: Beholde men seke the:
20 Lève-toi, descends et pars avec eux sans crainte, car c'est moi qui les ai envoyés. "
aryse therfore get the doune and goo with them and doute not. For I have sent them.
21 Aussitôt Pierre descendit vers eux: " Je suis, leur dit-il, celui que vous cherchez, quel est le motif qui vous amène? "
Peter went doune to ye men which were sent vnto him from Cornelius and sayde Beholde I am he whom ye seke what is the cause wherfore ye are come?
22 Ils répondirent: " Le centurion Corneille, homme juste et craignant Dieu, à qui toute la nation juive rend témoignage, a été averti par un ange saint de te faire venir dans sa maison et d'écouter tes paroles. "
And they sayde vnto him: Cornelius the captayne a iust man and won that feareth God and of good reporte amonge all the people of the Iewes was warned by an holy angell to sende for the into his housse and to heare wordes of the.
23 Pierre les fit donc entrer et les logea. Le lendemain, s'étant levé, il partit avec eux, et quelques-uns des frères de Joppé l'accompagnèrent.
Then called he them in and lodged them. And on ye morowe Peter wet awaye with them and certayne brethren from Ioppa accompanyed hym.
24 Ils entrèrent à Césarée le jour suivant. Corneille les attendait, et il avait invité ses parents et ses amis intimes.
And the thyrd daye entred they into Cesaria. And Cornelius wayted for them and had called to gether his kynsmen and speciall frendes.
25 Quand Pierre entra, Corneille alla au-devant de lui, et tombant à ses pieds il se prosterna.
And as it chaunsed Peter to come in Cornelius met hym and fell doune at his fete and worshipped hym.
26 Mais Pierre le releva en disant: " Lève-toi; moi aussi je suis un homme. "
But Peter toke him vp sayinge: stonde vp: for evyn I my silfe am a ma.
27 Et tout en s'entretenant avec lui, il entra et trouva beaucoup de personnes réunies.
And as he talked with him he cam in and founde many that were come to gether.
28 Il leur dit: " Vous savez qu'il est défendu à un Juif de se lier avec un étranger ou d'entrer chez lui; mais Dieu m'a appris à ne regarder aucun homme comme souillé ou impur.
And he sayde vnto them: Ye do knowe how that yt ys an vnlawfull thynge for a man that is a Iewe to company or come vnto an alient: But god hath shewed me that I shuld not call eny man commen or vnclene:
29 Aussi suis-je venu sans hésitation, dès que vous m'avez envoyé chercher. Je vous prie donc de me dire pour quel motif vous m'avez fait venir. "
therfore came I vnto you with oute sayege naye assone as I was sent for. I axe therfore for what intent have ye sent for me?
30 Corneille répondit: " Il y a en ce moment quatre jours que je jeûnais et priais dans ma maison à la neuvième heure; tout à coup parut devant moi un homme revêtu d'une robe éclatante, qui me dit:
And Cornelius sayde: This daye now. iiii. dayes I fasted and at the nynthe houre I prayde in my housse: and beholde a man stode before me in bright clothynge
31 " Corneille, ta prière a été exaucée, et Dieu s'est souvenu de tes aumônes.
and sayde: Cornelius thy prayer is hearde and thyne almes dedes are had in remembraunce in the sight of God.
32 Envoie donc à Joppé, et fais appeler Simon, surnommé Pierre; il est logé dans la maison de Simon, corroyeur, près de la mer; [il viendra te parler]. " —
Sende therfore to Ioppa and call for Simon which is also called Peter. He is lodged in the housse of one Simon a tanner by the see syde ye wich assone as he is come shall speake vnto ye.
33 Aussitôt j'ai envoyé vers toi, et tu as bien fait de venir. Maintenant nous sommes tous réunis devant Dieu pour entendre tout ce que Dieu t'a commandé de nous dire. "
Then sent I for ye immediatly and thou hast well done for to come. Now are we all here present before god to heare all thynges yt are commaunded vnto the of God.
34 Alors Pierre, ouvrant la bouche, parla ainsi: " En vérité, je reconnais que Dieu ne fait point acception de personnes,
Then Peter opened his mouth and sayde: Of a trueth I perseave that God is not parciall
35 mais qu'en toute nation celui qui le craint et pratique la justice lui est agréable.
but in all people he that feareth him and worketh rightewesnes is accepted with him.
36 Il a envoyé la parole aux enfants d'Israël, en annonçant la paix par Jésus-Christ: c'est lui qui est le Seigneur de tous.
Ye knowe the preachynge that God sent vnto the chyldren of Israel preachinge peace by Iesus Christe (which is Lorde over all thinges):
37 Vous savez ce qui s'est passée dans toute la Judée, en commençant par la Galilée, après le baptême que Jean a prêché:
Which preachinge was published thorow oute all Iewrye and begane in Galile after the baptyme which Iohn preached
38 comment Dieu a oint de l'Esprit-Saint et de force Jésus de Nazareth, qui allait de lieu en lieu, faisant du bien et guérissant tous ceux qui étaient sous l'empire du diable; car Dieu était avec lui.
how God had annoynted Iesus of Nazareth with the holy goost and with power which Iesus went aboute doinge good and healynge all yt were oppressed of the develles for God was with him.
39 Pour nous, nous sommes témoins de tout ce qu'il a fait dans les campagnes de la Judée et à Jérusalem. Ensuite ils l'ont fait mourir, en le pendant au bois.
And we are witnesses of all thinges which he dyd in the londe of the Iewes and at Ierusalem whom they slew and honge on tree.
40 Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité le troisième jour, et lui a donné de se faire voir,
Him God reysed vp ye thyrde daye and shewed him openly
41 non à tout le peuple, mais aux témoins choisis d'avance par Dieu, à nous qui avons mangé et bu avec lui, après sa résurrection d'entre les morts.
not to all the people but vnto vs witnesses chosyn before of God which ate and dronke with him after he arose from deeth.
42 Et il nous a commandé de prêcher au peuple et d'attester que c'est lui que Dieu a établi juge des vivants et des morts.
And he comaunded vs to preache vnto the people and testifie that it is he that is ordened of God a iudge of quycke and deed.
43 Tous les prophètes rendent de lui ce témoignage, que tout homme qui croit en lui reçoit par son nom la rémission de ses péchés. "
To him geve all the Prophetes witnes that thorowe his name shall receave remission of synnes all that beleve in him.
44 Pierre parlait encore, lorsque le Saint-Esprit descendit sur tous ceux qui écoutaient la parole.
Whyle Peter yet spake these wordes the holy gost fell on all them which hearde the preachinge.
45 Les fidèles venus de la circoncision qui accompagnaient Pierre étaient tout hors d'eux-mêmes en voyant que le don du Saint-Esprit était répandu même sur les Gentils.
And they of ye circucision which beleved were astonyed as many as came wt Peter because that on the Gentyls also was sheed oute ye gyfte of the holy gost.
46 Car ils entendaient ceux-ci parler des langues et glorifier Dieu. Alors Pierre dit:
For they hearde them speake with tonges and magnify God. Then answered Peter:
47 " Peut-on refuser l'eau du baptême à ces hommes qui ont reçu le Saint-Esprit aussi bien que nous? "
can eny man forbyd water that these shuld not be baptised which have receaved the holy goost as well as we?
48 Et il commanda de les baptiser au nom du Seigneur Jésus-Christ. Après quoi ils le prièrent de rester quelques jours.
And he comaunded them to be baptysed in the name of the Lorde. Then prayde they him to tary a feawe dayes.
