1 Or, comme parmi le peuple il y eut aussi de faux prophètes, de même il y aura parmi vous de faux docteurs, qui introduiront sourdement des sectes pernicieuses, et qui, reniant le Seigneur qui les a rachetés, attireront sur eux une prompte ruine.
But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be teachers of falsehood among you also, who will cunningly introduce fatal divisions, disowning even the Sovereign Lord who has redeemed them, and bringing on themselves swift destruction.
2 Plusieurs les suivront dans leurs désordres, et ils exposeront la doctrine de la vérité à être calomniée.
And in their immoral ways they will have many eager disciples, through whom religion will be brought into disrepute.
3 Par cupidité, ils trafiqueront de vous avec des paroles artificieuses; mais leur condamnation depuis longtemps ne se repose point, et leur ruine ne s'endort point.
Thirsting for riches, they will trade on you with their canting talk. From of old their judgement has been working itself out, and their destruction has not been slumbering.
4 Si Dieu, en effet, n'a pas épargné les anges qui avaient péché, mais les a précipités dans l'enfer et les a livrés aux abîmes des ténèbres, où il les garde pour le jugement; (Tartaroō g5020)
For God did not spare angels when they had sinned, but hurling them down to Tartarus consigned them to caves of darkness, keeping them in readiness for judgement. (Tartaroō g5020)
5 s'il n'a pas épargné l'ancien monde, mais en préservant Noé, lui huitième, comme prédicateur de la justice, lorsqu'il fit venir le déluge sur un monde d'impies;
And He did not spare the ancient world, although He preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a deluge on the world of the ungodly.
6 s'il a condamné à une totale destruction et réduit en cendres les villes de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, pour servir d'exemple aux impies à venir,
He reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and condemned them to overthrow, making them an example to people who might in future be living godless lives.
7 et s'il a délivré le juste Lot, affligé de la conduite de ces scélérats
But when righteous Lot was sore distressed by the gross misconduct of immoral men He rescued him.
8 (car, à cause de ce qu'il voyait et de ce qu'il entendait, ce juste, continuant à habiter au milieu d'eux, avait chaque jour son âme vertueuse tourmentée de leurs œuvres iniques): —
(For their lawless deeds were torture, day after day, to the pure soul of that righteous man--all that he saw and heard whilst living in their midst.)
9 c'est que le Seigneur sait délivrer de l'épreuve les hommes pieux, et réserver les méchants pour être punis au jour du jugement,
Since all this is so, the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from temptation, and on the other hand how to keep the unrighteous under punishment in readiness for the Day of Judgement,
10 mais surtout ceux qui s'abandonnent aux impures convoitises de la chair, et méprisent la souveraineté. Audacieux et arrogants, ils ne craignent pas de blasphémer les gloires,
and especially those who are abandoned to sensuality--craving, as they do, for polluted things, and scorning control. Fool-hardy and self-willed, they do not tremble when speaking evil of glorious beings;
11 quand des anges, supérieurs en force et en puissance, ne portent pas [devant le Seigneur], de jugement injurieux contre elles.
while angels, though greater than they in might and power, do not bring any insulting accusation against such in the presence of the Lord.
12 Mais eux, semblables à des animaux stupides, destinés par leur nature à être pris et à périr, ils se répandent en injures contre ce qu'ils ignorent, et ils périront aussi par leur propre corruption:
But these men, like brute beasts, created (with their natural instincts) only to be captured or destroyed, are abusive in matters of which they are ignorant, and in their corruption will perish,
13 ce sera le salaire de leur iniquité. Leur félicité est de passer chaque jour dans les délices; ils ne sont que tache, et que honte, ils se font un plaisir de vous tromper, en faisant bonne chère avec vous.
being doomed to receive a requital for their guilt. They reckon it pleasure to feast daintily in broad daylight. They are spots and blemishes, while feeding luxuriously at their love-feasts, and banqueting with you.
14 Ils ont les yeux pleins d'adultère, insatiables de péché; ils prennent à leurs amorces les âmes inconstantes; ils ont le cœur exercé à la cupidité: ce sont des enfants de malédiction.
Their very eyes are full of adultery--being eyes which never cease from sin. These men set traps to catch unstedfast souls, their own hearts being well trained in greed. They are fore-doomed to God's curse!
15 Ils ont quitté le droit chemin, et se sont égarés en suivant la voie de Balaam, fils de Bosor, qui aima le salaire de l'iniquité,
Forsaking the straight road, they have gone astray, having eagerly followed in the steps of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was bent on securing the wages of unrighteousness.
16 mais qui fut repris de sa désobéissance: une bête de somme, muette, faisant entendre une voix humaine, réprima la folie du prophète.
But he was rebuked for his transgression: a dumb ass spoke with a human voice and checked the madness of the Prophet.
17 Ce sont des fontaines sans eau, des nuées agitées par un tourbillon: la profondeur des ténèbres leur est réservée.
These people are wells without water, mists driven along by a storm, men for whom the dense darkness has been reserved.
18 Avec leurs théories pompeuses et vides, ils attirent dans les convoitises de la chair, dans le libertinage, ceux qui s'étaient à peine retirés des hommes nourris dans l'erreur.
For, while they pour out their frivolous and arrogant talk, they use earthly cravings--every kind of immorality--as a bait to entrap men who are just escaping from the influence of those who live in error.
19 Ils leur promettent la liberté, quand eux-mêmes sont esclaves de la corruption; car on est esclave de celui par qui on s'est laissé vaincre.
And they promise them freedom, although they are themselves the slaves of what is corrupt. For a man is the slave of any one by whom he has been worsted in fight.
20 Car si ceux qui, par la connaissance de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ, s'étaient retirés de la corruption du monde, se laissent vaincre en s'y engageant de nouveau, leur dernier état devient pire que le premier.
For if, after escaping from the pollutions of the world through a full knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, people are once more entangled in these pollutions and are overcome, their last state has become worse than their first.
21 En effet mieux valait pour eux n'avoir pas connu la voie de la justice, que de retourner en arrière, après l'avoir connue, en abandonnant la loi sainte qui leur avait été enseignée.
For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandments in which they were instructed.
22 Il leur est arrivé ce que dit un proverbe avec beaucoup de vérité: " Le chien est retourné à son propre vomissement " et: " La truie lavée s'est vautrée dans le bourbier. "
Their case is that described in the true proverb, "A dog returns to what he has vomited," and also in the other proverb, "The sow has washed itself and now goes back to roll in its filth."
