1 Timothée 4

1 Mais l'Esprit dit clairement que dans les temps à venir, certains abandonneront la foi, pour s'attacher à des esprits séducteurs et à des doctrines diaboliques;

Howbeit, the Spirit, expressly saith—that, in later seasons, some will revolt from the faith, giving heed unto seducing spirits, and unto teachings of demons—

2 enseignées par d'hypocrites imposteurs qui ont la marque de la flétrissure dans leur propre conscience;

in hypocrisy, speaking falsehood, [of demons] cauterised in their own conscience, —

3 qui proscrivent le mariage, et l'usage d'aliments que Dieu a créés afin que les fidèles et ceux qui ont connu la vérité en usent avec actions de grâces.

Forbidding to marry, [commanding] to abstain from foods which, God, created to be received with thanksgiving by them who believe and personally know the truth;

4 Car tout ce que Dieu a créé est bon, et l'on ne doit rien rejeter de ce qui se prend avec action de grâces,

Because, every creature of God, is good, and nothing to be cast away, if, with thanksgiving, it be received, —

5 parce que tout est sanctifié par la parole de Dieu et par la prière.

For it is hallowed by the word of God and intercession,

6 En proposant aux frères ces enseignements, tu seras un bon ministre de Jésus-Christ, nourri des leçons de la foi et de la bonne doctrine que tu as fidèlement suivie.

These things, submitting to the brethren, thou shall be, a noble, minister of Christ Jesus, nourishing thyself with the words of the faith, and of the noble teaching which thou hast closely studied.

7 Quant à ces fables profanes, ces contes de vieille femme, rejette-les, et exerce-toi à la piété.

But, from the profane and old-wives’ stories, excuse thyself, and be training thyself unto godliness;

8 Car l'exercice corporel est utile pour un peu; mais la piété est utile à tout; elle a des promesses pour la vie présente et pour la vie à venir.

For, the bodily training, for little, is profitable, whereas, godliness, for all things is profitable, —having, promise, of life—the present and the coming.

9 C'est là une parole certaine et digne d'être reçue.

Faithful, the saying! and, of all acceptance, worthy;

10 Car nous ne prenons tant de peine et nous n'endurons les outrages, que parce que nous avons mis notre espérance dans le Dieu vivant, qui est le Sauveur de tous les hommes, principalement des fidèles.

For, to this end, are we toiling and contending, because we have set our hope on a Living God, Who is Saviour of all men—specially, of such as believe.

11 Voilà ce que tu dois prescrire et enseigner.

Be giving these things in charge, and be teaching: —

12 Que personne ne te méprise à cause de ta jeunesse; mais sois l'exemple des fidèles, en parole, en conduite, en charité, en foi, en chasteté.

Let, no one, despise, thy youth, but, an ensample, become thou of the faithful, —in discourse, in behaviour, in love, in faith, in chastity.

13 En attendant que je vienne, applique-toi à la lecture, à l'exhortation, à l'enseignement.

While I am coming, be giving heed—to the reading, to the exhorting, to the teaching:

14 Ne néglige pas la grâce qui est en toi, et qui t'a été conférée par action prophétique, lorsque l'assemblée des anciens t'a imposé les mains.

Be not careless of the gift of favour, that is in thee, which was given thee through means of prophesying, along with a laying on of the hands of the eldership.

15 Médite ces choses et sois-y tout entier, afin que tes progrès soient évidents pour tous.

These things, be thy care, in these things, be thou, that, thine advancement, may be, manifest, unto all:

16 Veille sur toi-même et sur ton enseignement; mets-y une constante application; car, en agissant ainsi, tu te sauveras toi-même, et tu sauveras ceux qui t'écoutent.

Be giving heed to thyself, and to thy teaching, —abide still in them; for, this doing, both, thyself, shalt thou save, and them that hearken to thee.
