Luc 15
1 Tous les publicains et les pécheurs s’approchaient de Jésus pour l’entendre.
Now all the tax collectors and other sinners were coming to Jesus to listen to him.
2 Et les Pharisiens et les scribes murmuraient, disant: « Celui-là accueille des pécheurs et mange avec eux. »
Both the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled to each other, saying, “This man welcomes sinners, and even eats with them.”
3 Sur quoi il leur dit cette parabole:
Jesus spoke this parable to them, saying,
4 « Qui d’entre vous, ayant cent brebis, s’il en perd une, ne laisse les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf autres dans le désert, pour aller après celle qui est perdue, jusqu’à ce qu’il l’ait retrouvée?
“Which one of you, if he has a hundred sheep and then loses one of them, will not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the lost one until he finds it?
5 Et quand il l’a retrouvée, il la met avec joie sur ses épaules;
Then when he has found it, he lays it across his shoulders and rejoices.
6 et, de retour à la maison, il assemble ses amis et ses voisins et leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, parce que j’ai trouvé ma brebis qui était perdue.
When he comes to the house, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep.'
7 Ainsi, je vous le dis, il y aura plus de joie dans le ciel pour un seul pécheur qui se repent, que pour quatre-vingt-dix-neuf justes qui n’ont pas besoin de repentir.
I say to you that even so, there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
8 Ou bien quelle est la femme qui, ayant dix drachmes, si elle en perd une, n’allume une lampe, ne balaie sa maison, et ne cherche avec soin jusqu’à ce qu’elle l’ait retrouvée?
Or what woman who has ten silver coins, if she were to lose one coin, would not light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she has found it?
9 Et quand elle l’a retrouvée, elle assemble ses amies et ses voisines et leur dit: Réjouissez-vous avec moi, parce que j’ai retrouvé la drachme que j’avais perdue.
When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I lost.'
10 Ainsi, je vous le dis, il y a de la joie devant les anges de Dieu pour un seul pécheur qui se repent. »
Even so, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
11 Il dit encore: « Un homme avait deux fils.
Then Jesus said, “A certain man had two sons,
12 Le plus jeune dit à son père: Mon père, donne-moi la part du bien qui doit me revenir. Et le père leur partagea son bien.
and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of the wealth that falls to me.' So he divided his property between them.
13 Peu de jours après, le plus jeune fils ayant rassemblé tout ce qu’il avait, partit pour un pays lointain, et il y dissipa son bien en vivant dans la débauche.
Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he owned and went to a country far away, and there he wasted all his wealth by living recklessly.
14 Lorsqu’il eut tout dépensé, une grande famine survint dans ce pays, et il commença à sentir le besoin.
Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine spread through that country, and he began to be in need.
15 S’en allant donc, il se mit au service d’un habitant du pays, qui l’envoya à sa maison des champs pour garder les pourceaux.
He went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
16 Il eût bien voulu se rassasier des gousses que mangeaient les pourceaux, mais personne ne lui en donnait.
He would gladly have eaten the carob pods that the pigs ate, because no one gave him anything.
17 Alors, rentrant en lui-même, il dit: Combien d’employés de mon père ont du pain en abondance, et moi, je meurs ici de faim!
But when the young son came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough food, and I am here, dying from hunger!
18 Je me lèverai et j’irai à mon père, et je lui dirai: Mon père, j’ai péché contre le ciel et envers toi;
I will leave here and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
19 je ne mérite plus d’être appelé ton fils: traite-moi comme l’un de tes employés.
I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired servants.”'
20 Et il se leva et il alla vers son père. Comme il était encore loin, son père le vit, et, tout ému, il accourut, se jeta à son cou, et le couvrit de baisers.
So the young son left and came toward his father. While he was still far away, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and he ran and embraced him and kissed him.
21 Son fils lui dit: Mon père, j’ai péché contre le ciel et envers toi; je ne mérite plus d’être appelé ton fils.
The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
22 Mais le père dit à ses serviteurs: Apportez la plus belle robe et l’en revêtez; mettez-lui un anneau au doigt et des souliers aux pieds.
The father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and sandals on his feet.
23 Amenez aussi le veau gras et tuez-le; faisons un festin de réjouissance:
Then bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us celebrate with a feast!
24 car mon fils que voici était mort, et il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu, et il est retrouvé. Et ils se mirent à faire fête.
For my son was dead, and now he is alive. He was lost, and now he is found.' Then they began to celebrate.
25 Or, le fils aîné était dans les champs; comme il revenait et approchait de la maison, il entendit de la musique et des danses.
Now his older son was out in the field. As he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing.
26 Appelant un des serviteurs, il lui demanda ce que c’était.
He called to one of the servants and asked what these things might be.
27 Le serviteur lui dit: Votre frère est arrivé, et votre père a tué le veau gras, parce qu’il l’a recouvré sain et sauf.
The servant said to him, 'Your brother has come home and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has returned safely.'
28 Mais il se mit en colère, et ne voulut pas entrer. Le père sortit donc, et se mit à le prier.
The older son was angry and would not go in, and his father came out and begged him.
29 Il répondit à son père: Voilà tant d’années que je te sers, sans avoir jamais transgressé tes ordres, et jamais tu ne m’as donné, à moi, un chevreau pour festoyer avec mes amis.
But the older son answered and said to his father, 'Look, these many years I slaved for you, and I never broke a rule of yours, and yet you never gave me a young goat that I might celebrate with my friends,
30 Et quand cet autre fils, qui a dévoré ton bien avec des courtisanes, arrive, tu tues pour lui le veau gras!
but when your son came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed for him the fattened calf.'
31 Le père lui dit: Toi, mon fils, tu es toujours avec moi, et tout ce que j’ai est à toi.
The father said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.
32 Mais il fallait bien faire un festin et se réjouir, parce que ton frère que voilà était mort, et qu’il est revenu à la vie; il était perdu, et il est retrouvé. »
But it was proper for us to feast and be happy, for this brother of yours was dead, and is now alive; he was lost, and has now been found.'”
