Genèse 29
1 Jacob reprit sa marche et s’en alla au pays des fils de l’Orient.
Then Iacob lyfte vp his fete and wet toward the east countre.
2 Il regarda, et voici, il y avait un puits dans la campagne, et voici, il y avait à côté trois troupeaux de brebis qui étaient couchés, car c’était à ce puits qu’on abreuvait les troupeaux, et la pierre qui était sur l’ouverture du puits était grande.
And as he loked aboute behold there was a well in the feld and. iij. flockes of shepe laye therby (for at that well were the flockes watered) and there laye a great stone at the well mouth
3 Là se réunissaient tous les troupeaux; on roulait la pierre de dessus l’ouverture du puits, on faisait boire les troupeaux, et l’on remettait la pierre à sa place sur l’ouverture du puits.
And the maner was to brynge the flockes thyther and to roull the stone fro the welles mouth and to water the shepe and to put the stone agayne vppon the wells mouth vnto his place.
4 Jacob dit aux bergers: « Mes frères, d’où êtes-vous? » ils répondirent: « Nous sommes de Haran. »
And Iacob sayde vnto the: brethern whece be ye? and they sayde: of Haran ar we.
5 Il leur dit: « Connaissez-vous Laban, fils de Nachor? » Ils répondirent: « Nous le connaissons. »
And he sayde vnto the: knowe ye Laban the sonne of Nahor. And they sayde: we knowe him.
6 Il leur dit: « Est-il en bonne santé? » Ils répondirent: « Il est en bonne santé, et voici Rachel, sa fille, qui vient avec les brebis. »
And he sayde vnto the: is he in good health? And they sayde: he is in good health: and boholde his doughter Rahel cometh with ye shepe.
7 Il dit: « Voici, il est encore grand jour, et ce n’est pas le moment de rassembler les troupeaux; abreuvez les brebis et retournez les faire paître. »
And he sayde: lo it is yet a great whyle to nyghte nether is it tyme yt the catell shulde be gathered together: water the shepe and goo and fede the.
8 Ils répondirent: « Nous ne le pouvons pas jusqu’à ce que tous les troupeaux soient rassemblés et qu’on roule la pierre de dessus l’ouverture du puits; alors nous abreuverons les brebis. »
And they sayde: we maye not vntill all ye flockes be brought together and the stone be roulled fro the wells mouth and so we water oure shepe.
9 Il s’entretenait encore avec eux, lorsque Rachel arriva avec les brebis de son père; car elle était bergère.
Whyle he yet talked with the Rahel came with hir fathers shepe for she kepte them.
10 Dès que Jacob vit Rachel, fille de Laban, frère de sa mère, et les brebis de Laban, frère de sa mère, il s’approcha, roula la pierre de dessus l’ouverture du puits, et abreuva les brebis de Laban, frère de sa mère.
As soone As Iacob sawe Rahel the doughter of Laban his mothers brother and the shepe of Laban his mothers brother he went and rowled the stone fro the wells mouth and watered the shepe of Laba his mothers brother
11 Et Jacob baisa Rachel, et il éleva la voix et pleura.
And Iacob kyssed Rahel and lyfte vp his voyce and wepte:
12 Jacob apprit à Rachel qu’il était frère de son père, qu’il était fils de Rebecca; et elle courut l’annoncer à son père.
and tolde her also yt he was hir fathers brother and Rebeccas sonne. The Rahel ranne and tolde hir father.
13 Quand Laban eut entendu parler de Jacob, fils de sa sœur, il courut au-devant de lui, et l’ayant pris dans ses bras, il lui donna des baisers et l’amena dans sa maison. Jacob raconta à Laban toutes ces choses,
When Laban herd tell of Iacob his sisters sonne he ranne agaynst him and embraced hi and kyssed him ad broughte him in to his house. And the Iacob told Laba all ye matter
14 et Laban lui dit: « Oui, tu es mes os et ma chair. » Et Jacob demeura avec lui un mois entier.
And the Laba sayde: well thou art my bone and my flesh. Abyde with me the space of a moneth.
15 Alors Laban dit à Jacob: « Est-ce que, parce que tu es mon frère, tu me serviras pour rien? Dis-moi quel sera ton salaire. »
And afterward Laban sayd vnto Iacob: though thou be my brother shuldest thou therfore serue me for nought? tell me what shall thi wages be?
16 Or Laban avait deux filles; l’aînée se nommait Lia, et la cadette Rachel.
And Laban had. ij. doughters the eldest called Lea and the yongest Rahel.
17 Lia avait les yeux malades; mais Rachel était belle de taille et belle de visage.
Lea was tender eyed: But Rahel was bewtifull ad well fauored.
18 Comme Jacob aimait Rachel, il dit: « Je te servirai sept ans pour Rachel, ta fille cadette. »
And Iacob loued her well and sayde: I will serue the. vij. yere for Rahel thy yongest doughter.
19 Et Laban dit: « Mieux vaut te la donner que la donner à un autre; reste avec moi. »
And Laban answered: it is better yt I geue her the than to another man? byde therfore with me.
20 Et Jacob servit pour Rachel sept années, et elles furent à ses yeux comme quelques jours, parce qu’il l’aimait.
And Iacob serued. vij. yeres for Rahel and they semed vnto him but a fewe dayes for the loue he had to her.
21 Jacob dit à Laban: « Donne-moi ma femme, car mon temps est accompli, et j’irai vers elle. »
And Iacob sayde vnto Laban geue me my wife that I maye lye with hir for the tyme appoynted me is come.
22 Laban réunit tous les gens du lieu et fit un festin;
Than Laban bade all the men of that place and made a feast.
23 et le soir, prenant Lia, sa fille, il l’amena à Jacob, qui alla vers elle.
And when eue was come he toke Lea his doughter and broughte her to him and he went in vnto her.
24 Et Laban donna sa servante Zelpha pour servante à Lia, sa fille.
And Laban gaue vnto his doughter Lea Zilpha his mayde to be hir seruaunte.
25 Le matin venu, voilà que c’était Lia. Et Jacob dit à Laban: « Que m’as-tu fait? N’est-ce pas pour Rachel que j’ai servi chez toi? Pourquoi m’as-tu trompé? »
And when the mornynge was come beholde it was Lea. Than sayde he to Laban: wherfore hast thou played thus with me? dyd not I serue the for Rahel wherfore than hast thou begyled me?
26 Laban répondit: « Ce n’est pas l’usage dans notre pays de donner la cadette avant l’aînée.
Laban answered: it is not the maner of this place to marke the yongest before the eldest.
27 Achève la semaine de celle-ci, et nous te donnerons aussi l’autre pour le service que tu feras encore chez moi pendant sept autres années. »
Passe out this weke and tha shall this also be geuen the for ye seruyce which thou shalt serue me yet. vij. yeres more.
28 Jacob fit ainsi, et il acheva la semaine de Lia; puis Laban lui donna pour femme Rachel, sa fille.
And Iacob dyd eue so and passed out that weke and than he gaue hi Rahel his doughter to wyfe also.
29 Et Laban donna sa servante Bala pour servante à Rachel, sa fille.
And Laban gaue to Rahel his doughter Bilha his handmayde to be hir servaute.
30 Jacob alla aussi vers Rachel et il l’aima aussi plus que Lia; il servit encore chez Laban sept autres années.
So laye he by Rahel also and loued Rahel more than Lea and serued him yet. vij. yeres more.
31 Yahweh vit que Lia était haïe, et il la rendit féconde, tandis que Rachel était stérile.
When the LORde sawe that Lea was despised he made her frutefull: but Rahel was baren.
32 Lia conçut et enfanta un fils, et elle le nomma Ruben, car elle dit: « Yahweh a regardé mon affliction; maintenant mon mari m’aimera. »
And Lea conceaued and bare a sonne ad called his name Rube for she sayde: the LORde hath loked apon my tribulation. And now my husbonde will loue me.
33 Elle conçut encore et enfanta un fils, et elle dit: « Yahweh a entendu que j’étais haïe, et il m’a encore donné celui-là ». Et elle le nomma Siméon.
And she conceaued agayne and bare a sonne and sayde: the LORde hath herde that I am despised ad hath therfore geuen me this sonne also and she called him Simeon.
34 Elle conçut encore et enfanta un fils, et elle dit: « Cette fois mon mari s’attachera à moi car je lui ai enfanté trois fils. » C’est pourquoi on le nomma Lévi.
And she conceaued yet and bare a sonne ad sayde: now this once will my husbonde kepe me company because I haue borne him. iij. sonnes: and therfore she called his name Levi.
35 Elle conçut encore et enfanta un fils, et elle dit: « Cette fois je louerai Yahweh. » C’est pourquoi elle le nomma Juda. Et elle cessa d’avoir des enfants.
And she conceaued yet agayne and bare a sonne saynge? Now will I prayse the LORde: therfore she called his name Iuda and left bearynge.
