2 Chroniques 11
1 De retour à Jérusalem, Roboam rassembla la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille guerriers d’élite, pour qu’ils combattissent contre Israël, afin de ramener le royaume à Roboam.
And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 Mais la parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Sémaïas, homme de Dieu, en ces termes:
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 « Parle à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tout Israël en Juda et en Benjamin, en disant:
Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 Ainsi dit Yahweh: Ne montez pas et ne faites pas la guerre à vos frères! Retournez chacun dans votre maison, car c’est par moi que cette chose est arrivée. » Ils écoutèrent les paroles de Yahweh, et ils s’en retournèrent, sans marcher contre Jéroboam.
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5 Roboam résida à Jérusalem, et il bâtit des villes fortes en Juda.
And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6 Il bâtit Bethléem, Etam, Thécué,
He built even Beth-lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 Bethsur, Socho, Odollam,
And Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,
8 Geth, Marésa, Ziph,
and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 Aduram, Lachis, Azéca,
and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 Saraa, Aïalon et Hébron, villes fortes situées en Juda et en Benjamin.
and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fenced cities.
11 Il mit les forteresses en état de défense et il y plaça des commandants, ainsi que des magasins de vivres, d’huile et de vin.
And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and oil and wine.
12 Il mit dans chaque ville des boucliers et des lances, et il les rendit très fortes. Juda et Benjamin étaient à lui.
And in every several city [he put] shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
13 Les prêtres et les lévites qui se trouvaient dans tout Israël vinrent de tous leurs territoires se présenter à Roboam;
And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.
14 car les fils de Lévi abandonnèrent leurs pâturages et leurs propriétés, et allèrent en Juda et à Jérusalem, parce que Jéroboam avec ses fils les excluait des fonctions sacerdotales en l’honneur de Yahweh,
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office unto the LORD:
15 et qu’il avait établi des prêtres pour les hauts lieux, pour les boucs et pour les veaux qu’il avait faits.
and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.
16 A leur suite, ceux de toutes les tribus d’Israël qui appliquaient leur cœur à chercher Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, vinrent à Jérusalem pour sacrifier à Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères.
And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto the LORD, the God of their fathers.
17 Ils donnèrent ainsi de la force au royaume de Juda et affermirent Roboam, fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans; car ils marchèrent pendant trois ans dans la voie de David et de Salomon.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.
18 Roboam prit pour femme Mahalath, fille de Jérimoth, fils de David, et d’Abihaïl fille d’Eliab, fils d’Isaï.
And Rehoboam took him a wife; Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19 Elle lui enfanta des fils: Jéhus, Somoria et Zom.
and she bare him sons; Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
20 Après elle, il prit Maacha, fille d’Absalom, qui lui enfanta Abia, Ethaï, Ziza et Salomith.
And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 Roboam aimait Maacha, fille d’Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines; car il eut dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines, et il engendra vingt-huit fils et soixante filles.
And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.)
22 Roboam donna le premier rang à Abia, fils de Maacha, pour qu’il fût chef parmi ses frères, car il voulait le faire roi.
And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, [even] the prince among his brethren: for [he was minded] to make him king.
23 Il dispersa habilement tous ses fils dans toutes les contrées de Juda et de Benjamin, dans toutes les villes fortes; il leur fournit des vivres en abondance et demanda pour eux une multitude de femmes.
And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he sought [for them] many wives.
