Luc 7
1 Après avoir achevé de parler à l'oreille du peuple, il entra dans Capernaüm.
After Jesus had finished everything he was saying in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.
2 Le serviteur d'un centurion, qui lui était cher, était malade et sur le point de mourir.
Now a centurion had a slave who was highly regarded by him, and he was sick and about to die.
3 Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui envoya des anciens des Juifs, le priant de venir sauver son serviteur.
When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant.
4 Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent auprès de Jésus, ils le supplièrent instamment en disant: « Il est digne que tu fasses cela pour lui,
When they had come to Jesus, they asked him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him,
5 car il aime notre nation, et c'est pour nous qu'il a bâti notre synagogue. »
because he loves our nation, and he is the one who built the synagogue for us.”
6 Jésus alla avec eux. Comme il n'était plus très loin de la maison, le centurion lui envoya des amis pour lui dire: « Seigneur, ne te tourmente pas, car je ne suis pas digne que tu viennes sous mon toit.
So Jesus continued on his way with them. But when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, because I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.
7 C'est pourquoi je ne me suis même pas cru digne de venir te voir; mais dis la parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
For this reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you, but just say a word and my servant will be healed.
8 Car moi aussi, je suis un homme placé sous autorité, ayant sous mes ordres des soldats. Je dis à l'un: « Va », et il va; à un autre: « Viens », et il vient; à mon serviteur: « Fais ceci », et il le fait ».
For I also am a man who is under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another one, 'Come,' and he comes, and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it.”
9 En entendant ces choses, Jésus s'étonna de lui, puis il se retourna et dit à la foule qui le suivait: « Je vous le dis, je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi, pas même en Israël. »
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him said, “I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”
10 Ceux qui avaient été envoyés, étant retournés à la maison, trouvèrent que le serviteur qui avait été malade était guéri.
When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant was well.
11 Peu après, il se rendit dans une ville appelée Naïn. Plusieurs de ses disciples, ainsi qu'une grande foule, l'accompagnèrent.
Soon after that, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him.
12 Comme il approchait de la porte de la ville, voici qu'on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère, qui était veuve. Beaucoup de gens de la ville étaient avec elle.
As he came near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother (who was a widow), and a rather large crowd from the town was with her.
13 Le Seigneur, en la voyant, eut pitié d'elle et lui dit: « Ne pleure pas. »
When the Lord saw her, he was deeply moved with compassion for her and said to her, “Do not cry.”
14 Il s'approcha et toucha le cercueil, et les porteurs s'arrêtèrent. Il dit: « Jeune homme, je te le dis, lève-toi! »
Then he went up and touched the wooden frame on which they carried the body, and those carrying it stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”
15 Celui qui était mort se redressa et se mit à parler. Puis il le confia à sa mère.
The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
16 Tous furent saisis de crainte et glorifièrent Dieu en disant: « Un grand prophète s'est levé parmi nous » et « Dieu a visité son peuple ».
Then fear overcame all of them, and they kept praising God, saying, “A great prophet has been raised among us” and “God has looked upon his people.”
17 Cette nouvelle se répandit à son sujet dans toute la Judée et dans toute la région environnante.
This news about Jesus spread throughout the whole of Judea and all the neighboring regions.
18 Les disciples de Jean lui racontèrent toutes ces choses.
John's disciples told him about all these things.
19 Jean, ayant appelé à lui deux de ses disciples, les envoya vers Jésus, en disant: « Es-tu celui qui vient, ou devons-nous en chercher un autre? »
Then John called two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord to say, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”
20 Les hommes, s'étant approchés de lui, dirent: « Jean le Baptiseur nous a envoyés vers toi, pour dire: « Es-tu celui qui vient, ou devons-nous en chercher un autre? ».
When they had come near to Jesus, the men said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you to say, 'Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for another?'”
21 En cette heure-là, il guérit beaucoup de maladies, de fléaux et d'esprits mauvais, et il rendit la vue à beaucoup d'aveugles.
In that hour he healed many people from sicknesses and afflictions and from evil spirits, and to many blind people he gave sight.
22 Jésus leur répondit: « Allez annoncer à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: que les aveugles recouvrent la vue, que les boiteux marchent, que les lépreux sont purifiés, que les sourds entendent, que les morts ressuscitent, et que la bonne nouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres.
Jesus answered and said to them, “After you have gone on your way, report to John what you have seen and heard. Blind people are receiving sight, lame people are walking, lepers are being cleansed, deaf people are hearing, people who have died are being raised back to life, and needy people are being told the good news.
23 Heureux celui qui ne trouve en moi aucune occasion de chute! »
The person who does not stop believing in me because of my actions is blessed.”
24 Lorsque les messagers de Jean furent partis, il se mit à dire à la foule, au sujet de Jean: « Qu'êtes-vous allés voir dans le désert? Un roseau secoué par le vent?
After John's messengers had gone away, Jesus began to say to the crowds about John, “What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
25 Mais qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme vêtu d'un doux vêtement? Voici, ceux qui sont magnifiquement vêtus et qui vivent dans la délicatesse sont dans les cours des rois.
But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothes? Look, those who wear expensive clothing and who live in luxury are in kings' palaces.
26 Mais vous, qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, je vous le dis, et bien plus qu'un prophète.
But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
27 C'est celui dont il est écrit, Voici que j'envoie mon messager devant toi, qui préparera ton chemin devant toi.
This is he of whom it is written, 'See, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'
28 « Car je vous le dis, parmi ceux qui sont nés de femmes, il n'y a pas de plus grand prophète que Jean le Baptiseur; or, celui qui est le plus petit dans le Royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui. »
I say to you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he is.”
29 Quand tout le peuple et les publicains entendirent cela, ils déclarèrent que Dieu est juste, ayant été baptisés par le baptême de Jean.
(When all the people heard this, including the tax collectors, they declared that God is righteous, because they had been baptized with the baptism of John.
30 Mais les pharisiens et les juristes rejetèrent le conseil de Dieu, n'ayant pas été eux-mêmes baptisés par lui.
But the Pharisees and the experts in Jewish law rejected God's purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
31 " A quoi dois-je donc comparer les gens de cette génération? A quoi ressemblent-ils?
“To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like?
32 Ils ressemblent à des enfants qui, assis sur la place du marché, s'interpellent les uns les autres en disant: 'Nous avons sifflé pour vous, et vous n'avez pas dansé. Nous nous sommes lamentés, et vous n'avez pas pleuré.
They are like children playing in the marketplace, who sit and call to one another and say, 'We played a flute for you, and you did not dance. We sang a funeral song, and you did not cry.'
33 Car Jean le Baptiste n'est venu ni manger du pain ni boire du vin, et vous dites: « Il a un démon ».
For John the Baptist came eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.'
34 Le Fils de l'homme est venu en mangeant et en buvant, et vous dites: « Voici un glouton et un ivrogne, l'ami des publicains et des pécheurs ».
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look, he is a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'
35 La sagesse est justifiée par tous ses enfants. »
But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
36 Un des pharisiens l'invita à manger avec lui. Il entra dans la maison du pharisien et se mit à table.
Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to eat with him. So after Jesus entered into the Pharisee's house, he reclined at the table to eat.
37 Et voici qu'une femme de la ville, qui était pécheresse, sachant qu'il était couché dans la maison du pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre rempli de parfum.
Behold, there was a woman in the city who was a sinner. When she found out that he was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfumed oil.
38 Se tenant derrière à ses pieds en pleurant, elle se mit à mouiller ses pieds avec ses larmes, les essuya avec les cheveux de sa tête, baisa ses pieds et les oignit avec le parfum.
As she stood behind him near his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with perfumed oil.
39 Le pharisien qui l'avait invité, voyant cela, se dit: « Cet homme, s'il était prophète, aurait compris qui et quelle sorte de femme c'est qui le touche, que c'est une pécheresse. »
When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he thought to himself, saying, “If this man were a prophet, then he would know who and what type of woman is touching him, that she is a sinner.”
40 Jésus lui répondit: « Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. » Il a dit: « Maître, parle. »
Jesus responded and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He said, “Say it, Teacher!”
41 « Un certain prêteur avait deux débiteurs. L'un devait cinq cents deniers, et l'autre cinquante.
Jesus said, “A certain moneylender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 Comme ils ne pouvaient pas payer, il leur a pardonné à tous les deux. Lequel d'entre eux donc l'aimera le plus? »
When they could not pay him, he forgave them both. Therefore, which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon répondit: « Celui, je suppose, à qui il a pardonné le plus. » Il lui dit: « Tu as bien jugé. »
Simon answered him and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave the most.” Jesus said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
44 Se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon: « Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tu ne m'as pas donné d'eau pour mes pieds, mais elle a mouillé mes pieds avec ses larmes, et les a essuyés avec les cheveux de sa tête.
Jesus turned to the woman and said to Simon, “You see this woman. I have entered into your house. You gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
45 Tu ne m'as pas donné de baiser, mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, n'a pas cessé de baiser mes pieds.
You did not give me a kiss, but from the time I came in she did not stop kissing my feet.
46 Tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile, mais elle a oint mes pieds de parfum.
You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfumed oil.
47 C'est pourquoi je vous dis que ses péchés, qui sont nombreux, sont pardonnés, car elle a beaucoup aimé. Mais celui à qui on pardonne peu, aime peu. »
Therefore I say to you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven—for she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.”
48 Il lui dit: « Tes péchés sont pardonnés. »
Then he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 Ceux qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: « Qui est celui-ci, qui pardonne même les péchés? »
Those reclining together began to say among themselves, “Who is this that even forgives sins?”
50 Il dit à la femme: « Ta foi t'a sauvée. Va en paix. »
Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
