Genèse 34
1 Dina, fille de Léa, qu'elle avait enfantée à Jacob, sortit pour voir les filles du pays.
Dina the doughter of Lea which she bare vnto Iacob went out to see the doughters of the lande.
2 Sichem, fils de Hamor, le Hivvite, prince du pays, la vit. Il la prit, coucha avec elle, et l'humilia.
And Siche the sonne of Hemor the Heuite lorde of the countre sawe her and toke her and laye with her and forced her:
3 Son âme s'attacha à Dina, fille de Jacob; il aima la jeune fille, et lui parla avec bonté.
and his harte laye vnto Dina ye doughter of Iacob. And he loued yt damsell and spake kidly vnto her
4 Sichem parla à son père, Hamor, et dit: « Prends-moi cette jeune fille pour femme. »
and spake vnto his father Hemor saynge gett me this mayde vnto my wyfe.
5 Or Jacob apprit qu'il avait souillé Dina, sa fille; et ses fils étaient avec son bétail dans les champs. Jacob garda le silence jusqu'à leur arrivée.
And Iacob herde that he had defyled Dina his doughter but his sonnes were with the catell in the felde and therfore he helde his peace vntill they were come.
6 Hamor, père de Sichem, sortit vers Jacob pour lui parler.
Then Hemor the father of Sichem went out vnto Iacob to come with him.
7 Les fils de Jacob arrivèrent des champs lorsqu'ils entendirent cela. Ils étaient affligés et très en colère, car il avait commis une folie en Israël en couchant avec la fille de Jacob, ce qui ne devait pas se faire.
And the sonnes of Iacob came out of the felde as soone as they herde it for it greued them and they were not a litle wrooth because he had wrought folie in Israell in that he had lyen with Iacobs doughter which thinge oughte not to be done.
8 Hamor leur parla, et dit: « L'âme de mon fils Sichem a envie de ta fille. Je vous prie de la lui donner pour femme.
And Hemor comened with the sainge? the soule of my sonne Siche logeth for youre doughter geue her him to wyfe
9 Faites des mariages avec nous. Donnez-nous vos filles, et prenez nos filles pour vous.
and make mariages with vs: geue youre doughters vnto vs ad take oure doughters vnto you
10 Vous habiterez avec nous, et le pays sera devant vous. Vous y vivrez, vous y ferez du commerce, et vous y acquerrez des biens. »
and dwell with vs and the lande shall be at youre pleasure dwell and do youre busynes and haue youre possessions there in.
11 Sichem dit à son père et à ses frères: « Laissez-moi trouver grâce à vos yeux, et je donnerai tout ce que vous me direz.
And Sichem sayde vnto hyr father and hir brethern: let me fynde grace in youre eyes and what soeuer ye apoynte me that will I geue.
12 Demande-moi une dot importante, et je te donnerai tout ce que tu me demanderas, mais donne-moi la jeune fille pour femme. »
Axe frely of me both the dowry and gyftes and I will geue acordynge as ye saye vnto me and geue me the damsell to wyfe.
13 Les fils de Jacob répondirent à Sichem et à Hamor, son père, avec ruse lorsqu'ils parlaient, parce qu'il avait souillé Dina, leur sœur,
Then the sonnes of Iacob answered to Sichem ad Hemor his father deceytefully because he had defyled Dina their syster.
14 et ils leur dirent: « Nous ne pouvons pas faire cette chose, donner notre sœur à un incirconcis, car c'est un opprobre pour nous.
And they sayde vnto them we can not do this thinge yt we shulde geue oure syster to one that is vncircumcysed for that were a shame vnto us.
15 Ce n'est qu'à cette condition que nous vous donnerons notre accord. Si vous faites comme nous, c'est-à-dire si tous les mâles d'entre vous sont circoncis,
Only in this will we consent vnto you? Yf ye will be as we be that all the men childern amonge you be circumcysed
16 nous vous donnerons nos filles, et nous prendrons vos filles, nous habiterons avec vous, et nous formerons un seul peuple.
tha will we geue oure doughter to you and take youres to vs and will dwell with you and be one people.
17 Mais si vous ne nous écoutez pas et si vous ne vous faites pas circoncire, alors nous prendrons notre sœur, et nous partirons. »
But and yf ye will not harken vnto vs to be circumcysed than will we take oure doughter and goo oure wayes.
18 Leurs paroles plurent à Hamor et à Sichem, fils d'Hamor.
And their wordes pleased Hemor and Sichem his sonne.
19 Le jeune homme n'avait pas attendu pour faire cette chose, car il avait pris plaisir à la fille de Jacob, et il était honoré au-dessus de toute la maison de son père.
And the yonge man deferde not for to do the thinge because he had a lust to Iacobs doughter: he was also most sett by of all that were in his fathers house.
20 Hamor et Sichem, son fils, arrivèrent à la porte de leur ville et parlèrent avec les gens de leur ville, en disant:
Tha Hemor and Sichem went vnto the gate of their cyte and comened with the men of their cyte sayncte.
21 « Ces hommes sont pacifiques avec nous. Qu'ils vivent donc dans le pays et qu'ils y fassent du commerce. Car voici, le pays est assez vaste pour eux. Prenons leurs filles pour épouses, et donnons-leur nos filles.
These men ar peasable with us and will dwell in the lade and do their occupatio therin And in the land is rowme ynough for the let us take their doughters to wyues and geue them oures:
22 Ce n'est qu'à cette condition que les hommes consentiront à vivre avec nous, à devenir un seul peuple, si chaque mâle parmi nous est circoncis, comme eux.
only herin will they consent vnto vs for to dwell with vs and to be one people: yf all the men childern that are amonge vs be circumcysed as they are.
23 Leur bétail, leurs biens et tous leurs animaux ne seront-ils pas à nous? Seulement, donnons-leur notre consentement, et ils habiteront avec nous. »
Their goodes and their substance and all their catell are oures only let vs consente vnto them that they maye dwell with vs.
24 Tous ceux qui sortaient de la porte de sa ville écoutaient Hamor et Sichem, son fils, et tout mâle était circoncis, tous ceux qui sortaient de la porte de sa ville.
And vnto Hemor and Sichem his sonneharkened all that went out at the gate of his cyte. And all the men childern were circumcysed what soeuer went out at the gates of his cyte.
25 Le troisième jour, alors qu'ils étaient endoloris, deux des fils de Jacob, Siméon et Lévi, les frères de Dina, prirent chacun leur épée, s'avancèrent vers la ville qui ne se doutait de rien et tuèrent tous les mâles.
And the third daye when it was paynefull to them ij. of the sonnes of Iacob Simeon and Leui Dinas brethren toke ether of them his swerde and went in to the cyte boldly and slewe all yt was male
26 Ils tuèrent Hamor et Sichem, son fils, au fil de l'épée, prirent Dina dans la maison de Sichem et s'en allèrent.
and slewe also Hemor and Sichem his sonne with the edge of the swerde ad toke Dina their sister out of Sichems house and went their waye.
27 Les fils de Jacob arrivèrent sur les morts et pillèrent la ville, car ils avaient souillé leur sœur.
Than came the sonnes of Iacob vpon the deede and spoyled the cyte because they had defyled their sister:
28 Ils prirent leurs troupeaux, leurs vaches, leurs ânes, ce qui était dans la ville, ce qui était dans les champs,
and toke their shepe oxen asses and what so euer was in the cyte and also in ye feldes
29 et toutes leurs richesses. Ils emmenèrent en captivité tous leurs petits enfants et leurs femmes, et prirent comme butin tout ce qui était dans la maison.
And all their goodes all their childern and their wyues toke they captyue and made havock of all that was in the houses.
30 Jacob dit à Siméon et à Lévi: « Vous m'avez troublé, pour me rendre odieux aux habitants du pays, parmi les Cananéens et les Phéréziens. Je suis peu nombreux. Ils s'assembleront contre moi et me frapperont, et je serai détruit, moi et ma maison. »
And Iacob sayde to Simeon and Leui: ye haue troubled me ad made me styncke vnto the inhabitatours of the lande both to the Canaanytes and also vnto the Pherezites. And I am fewe in nombre. Wherfore they shall gather them selves together agaynst me and sley me and so shall I and my house be dystroyed.
31 Ils dirent: « Doit-il traiter notre sœur comme une prostituée? »
And they answered: shuld they deall with oure sister as wyth an whoore?
