Psalmien 124

1 Matkalaulu; Daavidin virsi. Ellei Herra olisi meidän kanssamme-näin sanokoon Israel-

A Song of Ascents. By David. If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, let Israel now say,

2 ellei Herra olisi meidän kanssamme, kun ihmiset nousevat meitä vastaan,

if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us,

3 niin he meidät elävältä nielisivät, kun heidän vihansa syttyy meitä vastaan;

then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us,

4 niin vedet upottaisivat meidät, virta tulvisi meidän sielumme ylitse;

then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul.

5 niin tulvisivat kuohuvat vedet meidän sielumme ylitse.

Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

6 Kiitetty olkoon Herra, joka ei antanut meitä heidän hammastensa raadeltaviksi.

Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 Meidän sielumme pääsi kuin lintu pyydystäjäin paulasta: paula katkesi, ja me pääsimme pois.

Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.

8 Meidän apumme on Herran nimi, hänen, joka on tehnyt taivaan ja maan.

Our help is in the LORD’s name, who made heaven and earth.
