Efesolaisille 5
1 Olkaa siis Jumalan seuraajia, niinkuin rakkaat lapset,
Be ye therefore imitators of God as his dear children; and walk in love,
2 ja vaeltakaa rakkaudessa, niinkuin Kristuskin rakasti teitä ja antoi itsensä meidän edestämme lahjaksi ja uhriksi, Jumalalle "suloiseksi tuoksuksi".
even as Christ hath loved us, and given Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of sweet perfume.
3 Mutta haureutta ja minkäänlaista saastaisuutta tai ahneutta älköön edes mainittako teidän keskuudessanne-niinkuin pyhien sopii-
But fornication, and all uncleanness, or inordinate desire, let it not be even named among you; for so it becometh saints:
4 Älköön myös rivoutta tai tyhmää lorua tai ilvehtimistä, jotka ovat sopimattomia, vaan paremmin kiitosta.
nor ribaldry, nor buffoonery, nor wanton jesting, which are not meet: but rather giving of thanks.
5 Sillä sen te tiedätte ja tunnette, ettei yhdelläkään haureellisella eikä saastaisella eikä ahneella-sillä hän on epäjumalanpalvelija-ole perintöosaa Kristuksen ja Jumalan valtakunnassa.
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, (who is an idolater, ) hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Älköön kukaan pettäkö teitä tyhjillä puheilla, sillä semmoisten tähden kohtaa Jumalan viha tottelemattomuuden lapsia;
Let no one deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Älkää siis olko niihin osallisia heidän kanssaan.
Therefore be not partners with them.
8 Ennen te olitte pimeys, mutta nyt te olette valkeus Herrassa. Vaeltakaa valkeuden lapsina
For ye were heretofore darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord:
9 -sillä kaikkinainen hyvyys ja vanhurskaus ja totuus on valkeuden hedelmä-
walk therefore as children of light, (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, )
10 ja tutkikaa, mikä on otollista Herralle;
approving what is well-pleasing to the Lord.
11 Älköönkä teillä olko mitään osallisuutta pimeyden hedelmättömiin tekoihin, vaan päinvastoin nuhdelkaakin niistä.
And have no communion with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 Sillä häpeällistä on jo sanoakin, mitä he salassa tekevät;
For it is a shame even to relate the things that are done by them in secret.
13 mutta tämä kaikki tulee ilmi, kun valkeus sen paljastaa, sillä kaikki, mikä tulee ilmi, on valkeutta.
But all things to be reproved: are made manifest by the light: for whatever doth make manifest, is light.
14 Sentähden sanotaan: "Heräjä sinä, joka nukut, ja nouse kuolleista, niin Kristus sinua valaisee!"
Wherefore He saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 Katsokaa siis tarkoin, kuinka vaellatte: ei niinkuin tyhmät, vaan niinkuin viisaat,
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise men:
16 ja ottakaa vaari oikeasta hetkestä, sillä aika on paha.
redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Älkää sentähden olko mielettömät, vaan ymmärtäkää, mikä Herran tahto on.
Wherefore be not thoughtless, but consider what is the will of the Lord.
18 Älkääkä juopuko viinistä, sillä siitä tulee irstas meno, vaan täyttykää Hengellä,
And be not drunk with wine, in which there is riotous excess; but be filled with the Spirit:
19 puhuen keskenänne psalmeilla ja kiitosvirsillä ja hengellisillä lauluilla, veisaten ja laulaen sydämessänne Herralle,
speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord:
20 kiittäen aina Jumalaa ja Isää kaikesta meidän Herramme Jeesuksen Kristuksen nimessä.
always giving thanks for all to God even the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Ja olkaa toinen toisellenne alamaiset Kristuksen pelossa.
submitting yourselves to each other in the fear of God.
22 Vaimot, olkaa omille miehillenne alamaiset niinkuin Herralle;
Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord:
23 sillä mies on vaimon pää, niinkuin myös Kristus on seurakunnan pää, hän, ruumiin vapahtaja.
for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and the saviour of that body.
24 Mutta niinkuin seurakunta on Kristukselle alamainen, niin olkoot vaimotkin miehillensä kaikessa alamaiset.
As the church then is subject to Christ, so also should wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Miehet, rakastakaa vaimojanne, niinkuin Kristuskin rakasti seurakuntaa ja antoi itsensä alttiiksi sen edestä,
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave up Himself for it:
26 että hän sen pyhittäisi, puhdistaen sen, vedellä pesten, sanan kautta,
to sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 saadakseen asetetuksi eteensä kirkastettuna seurakunnan, jossa ei olisi tahraa eikä ryppyä eikä mitään muuta sellaista, vaan joka olisi pyhä ja nuhteeton.
that He might prepare it for Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and unblameable.
28 Samalla tavoin tulee myös miesten rakastaa vaimojansa niinkuin omia ruumiitaan; joka rakastaa vaimoansa, hän rakastaa itseänsä.
Men ought so to love their wives, as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife, loveth himself.
29 Sillä eihän kukaan koskaan ole vihannut omaa lihaansa, vaan hän ravitsee ja vaalii sitä, niinkuin Kristuskin seurakuntaa,
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord also doth the church:
30 sillä me olemme hänen ruumiinsa jäseniä.
for we are members of his body, as if taken out of his flesh, and of his bones, as Eve was out of Adam's.
31 "Sentähden mies luopukoon isästänsä ja äidistänsä ja liittyköön vaimoonsa, ja ne kaksi tulevat yhdeksi lihaksi."
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 Tämä salaisuus on suuri; minä tarkoitan Kristusta ja seurakuntaa.
This mystery is great: but I speak concerning Christ and the Church.
33 Mutta myös teistä kukin kohdaltaan rakastakoon vaimoaan niinkuin itseänsä; mutta vaimo kunnioittakoon miestänsä.
Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and let the wife reverence her husband.
