Zephaniah 3
1 Woe [to] the rebellious and polluted, The oppressing city!
Wehe über die widerspenstige und befleckte, die gewaltthätige Stadt!
2 She hath not hearkened to the voice, She hath not accepted instruction, In Jehovah she hath not trusted, Unto her God she hath not drawn near.
Sie hört auf kein Gebot, noch nimmt sie Zucht an; auf Jahwe vertraut sie nicht, noch naht sie sich ihrem Gotte.
3 Her heads in her midst [are] roaring lions, Her judges [are] evening wolves, They have not gnawn the bone in the morning.
Die Oberen in ihr sind wie brüllende Löwen; ihre Richter wie Wölfe am Abend, sie heben nichts auf für den Morgen.
4 Her prophets unstable — men of treachery, Her priests have polluted the sanctuary, They have violated the law.
Ihre Propheten sind leichtfertig, betrügerische Leute; ihre Priester entweihen das Heilige, freveln am Gesetz.
5 Jehovah [is] righteous in her midst, He doth not do perverseness, Morning by morning His judgment he giveth to the light, It hath not been lacking, And the perverse doth not know shame.
Jahwe aber ist gerecht in ihr, er thut kein Unrecht; Morgen für Morgen läßt er sein Recht ans Licht treten, es bleibt nicht aus - aber der Ungerechte weiß nichts von Scham!
6 I have cut off nations, Desolated have been their chief ones, I have laid waste their out-places without any passing by, Destroyed have been their cities, Without man, without inhabitant.
Ich habe Völker vertilgt, verwüstet wurden ihre Zinnen; ich habe ihre Landstraßen öde gemacht, daß niemand mehr darauf vorüberzog: verheert wurden ihre Städte, menschenleer, entvölkert!
7 I have said: Only, ye do fear Me, Ye do accept instruction, And her habitation is not cut off, All that I have appointed for her, But they have risen early, They have corrupted all their doings.
Ich sprach: “Nur fürchte mich doch, nimm Zucht an!” so soll ihre Wohnstätte nicht vertilgt werden, nach allem, was ich wider sie angeordnet habe. Aber wahrlich, unermüdlich waren sie dabei, alles, was sie thaten, böse zu machen.
8 Therefore, wait for Me — an affirmation of Jehovah, For the day of My rising for prey, For My judgment [is] to gather nations, To assemble kingdoms, To pour out on them Mine indignation, All the heat of Mine anger, For by the fire of My jealousy consumed is all the earth.
Darum harret mein - ist der Spruch Jahwes - auf den Tag, da ich mich als Zeuge wider euch erhebe. Denn mein Rechtswille ist: Völker zusammenzubringen, Königreiche zu versammeln, um meinen Grimm über sie auszuschütten, die ganze Glut meines Zorns; denn vom Feuer meines Eifers wird die ganze Erde verzehrt werden.
9 For then do I turn unto peoples a pure lip, To call all of them by the name of Jehovah, To serve Him [with] one shoulder.
Ja, alsdann werde ich den Völkern reine Lippen schaffen, daß sie insgesamt den Namen Jahwes anrufen, ihm Schulter an Schulter dienen.
10 From beyond the rivers of Cush, my supplicants, The daughter of My scattered ones, Do bring My present.
Von jenseits der Ströme von Kusch werden sie mir Schlachtopfer darbringen, mir Speisopfer spenden.
11 In that day thou art not ashamed because of any of thine actions, Wherewith thou hast transgressed against Me, For then do I turn aside from thy midst The exulting ones of thine excellency, And thou dost add no more to be haughty, In My holy mountain.
Jenes Tags brauchst du dich nicht mehr zu schämen ob aller deiner Übelthaten, womit du dich wider mich vergingst. Denn alsdann werde ich aus deiner Mitte entfernen, die übermütig in dir jubeln, und du wirst dich fortan nicht mehr auf meinem heiligen Berg überheben.
12 And I have left in thy midst a people humble and poor, And they have trusted in the name of Jehovah.
Und ich werde in dir ein demütiges und geringes Volk übrig lassen; die werden Zuflucht suchen beim Namen Jahwes.
13 The remnant of Israel do no perversity, nor speak lies, Nor found in their mouth is a deceitful tongue, For they have delight, and have lain down, And there is none troubling.
Der Überrest Israels wird kein Unrecht mehr begehen, noch wird man Lüge reden, noch wird in jemandes Mund eine trügerische Zunge gefunden werden; ja sie werden weiden und sich lagern, ohne daß sie jemand aufschreckt.
14 Cry aloud, O daughter of Zion, shout, O Israel, Rejoice and exult with the whole heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
Juble, Tochter Zion, jauchzt, ihr von Israel! Freue dich und frohlocke von ganzem Herzen, Tochter Jerusalem!
15 Jehovah hath turned aside thy judgments, He hath faced thine enemy, The king of Israel, Jehovah, [is] in thy midst, Thou seest evil no more.
Jahwe hat die Strafgerichte über dich abgethan, deinen Feind hinweggeräumt! Israels König, Jahwe, ist mitten in dir: du wirst fürder nichts Böses mehr erleben.
16 In that day it is said to Jerusalem, 'Fear not, O Zion, let not thy hands be feeble.
Jenes Tags wird man zu Jerusalem sagen. Sei getrost! Zion, laß deine Hände nicht mutlos sinken!
17 Jehovah thy God [is] in thy midst, A mighty one doth save, He rejoiceth over thee with joy, He doth work in His love, He joyeth over thee with singing.'
Jahwe, dein Gott, ist in dir, ein Held, der Sieg schafft. Er freut sich über dich voll Wonne, er schweigt in seiner Liebe, mit lautem Jubel frohlockt er über dich.
18 Mine afflicted from the appointed place I have gathered, from thee they have been, Bearing for her sake reproach.
Die ob der Festversammlung Betrübten sammle ich; von dir waren sie, auf ihnen lastet Schmach.
19 Lo, I am dealing with all afflicting thee at that time, And I have saved the halting one, And the driven out ones I do gather, And have set them for a praise and for a name, In all the land of their shame.
Nun will ich richtend handeln mit deinen Unterdrückern zu derselbigen Zeit. Da will ich dann retten, was abseits geraten, und das Versprengte sammeln und will sie zum Preis und zum Ruhm machen auf der ganzen Erde.
20 At that time I bring you in, Even at the time of My assembling you, For I give you for a name, and for a praise, Among all peoples of the land, In My turning back [to] your captivity before your eyes, said Jehovah!
Zu jener Zeit will ich euch heimbringen und zwar zu der Zeit, da ich euch sammle. Denn ich werde euch zum Ruhm und zum Preis machen unter allen Völkern der Erde, wenn ich euer Geschick vor euren Augen wende, spricht Jahwe.
