Psalms 78
1 An Instruction of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law, Incline your ear to sayings of my mouth.
Un salmo (masquil) de Asaf. Escucha, pueblo mío, lo que tengo para enseñarte. Escucha lo que vengo a decirte.
2 I open with a simile my mouth, I bring forth hidden things of old,
Te enseñaré dichos sabios; y te explicaré misterios del pasado
3 That we have heard and do know, And our fathers have recounted to us.
que he escuchado antes y sobre los cuales he reflexionado. Son historias de nuestros antepasados que han sido transmitidas por generaciones.
4 We do not hide from their sons, To a later generation recounting praises of Jehovah, And His strength, and His wonders that He hath done.
No las ocultaremos de nuestros hijos. Le contaremos a la siguiente generación sobre las maravillas que Dios ha hecho; sobre su poder y grandes obras.
5 And He raiseth up a testimony in Jacob, And a law hath placed in Israel, That He commanded our fathers, To make them known to their sons.
Él entregó sus leyes a los descendientes de Jacob; dio sus instrucciones al pueblo de Israel. Él ordenó a nuestros padres para que las enseñaran a sus hijos,
6 So that a later generation doth know, Sons who are born, do rise and recount to their sons,
a fin de que la siguiente generación—los que aún no habían nacido—entendieran y crecieran para enseñar a sus hijos.
7 And place in God their confidence, And forget not the doings of God, But keep His commands.
De esta forma debían mantener su fe en Dios y no olvidar lo que Dios ha hecho, así como seguir sus mandamientos.
8 And they are not like their fathers, A generation apostate and rebellious, A generation! it hath not prepared its heart, Nor stedfast with God [is] its spirit.
Para que no fueran como sus antepasados, una generación terca y rebelde que carecía de fe y fidelidad.
9 Sons of Ephraim — armed bearers of bow, Have turned in a day of conflict.
Los soldados de Efraín, aunque estaban armados con arcos, huyeron el día de la batalla.
10 They have not kept the covenant of God, And in His law they have refused to walk,
No cumplieron el pacto de Dios, y se negaron a seguir sus leyes.
11 And they forget His doings, And His wonders that He shewed them.
Ignoraronl lo que Dios había hecho, y las maravillas que les había mostrado antes:
12 Before their fathers He hath done wonders, In the land of Egypt — the field of Zoan.
los milagros que había hecho por sus antepasados en Zoán, en Egipto.
13 He cleft a sea, and causeth them to pass over, Yea, He causeth waters to stand as a heap.
Él dividió el mar en dos y los condujo a través de él, manteniendo las aguas como muros a cada lado.
14 And leadeth them with a cloud by day, And all the night with a light of fire.
Él los guiaba con una nube en el día, y de noche con una nube de fuego.
15 He cleaveth rocks in a wilderness, And giveth drink — as the great deep.
Partió las rocas en el desierto para darle agua abundante a su pueblo. Aguas profundas como el océano.
16 And bringeth out streams from a rock, And causeth waters to come down as rivers.
¡Él hizo que de las piedras fluyera agua como un río!
17 And they add still to sin against Him, To provoke the Most High in the dry place.
Pero ellos siguieron pecando contra él, rebelándose contra el Altísimo mientras andaban por el desierto.
18 And they try God in their heart, To ask food for their lust.
Deliberadamente provocaban a Dios, exigiendo las comidas que tanto anhelaban.
19 And they speak against God — they said: 'Is God able to array a table in a wilderness?'
Insultaron a Dios diciendo: “¿Puede Dios darnos comida aquí en el desierto?
20 Lo, He hath smitten a rock, And waters flow, yea, streams overflow. 'Also — bread [is] He able to give? Doth He prepare flesh for His people?'
Si bien puede golpear una roca y hacer que de ellas fluya agua como corrientes de río, ¿puede acaso darnos pan? ¿Puede darnos carne?”
21 Therefore hath Jehovah heard, And He sheweth Himself wroth, And fire hath been kindled against Jacob, And anger also hath gone up against Israel,
Cuando el Señor oyó esto, se enojó mucho, y el fuego de su enojo se encendió contra los descendientes de Jacob, el pueblo de Israel,
22 For they have not believed in God, Nor have they trusted in His salvation.
porque ellos no creyeron en Dios y no confiaron en que podía cuidar de ellos.
23 And He commandeth clouds from above, Yea, doors of the heavens He hath opened.
Tanto fue su enojo que ordenó a los cielos se abrieran,
24 And He raineth on them manna to eat, Yea, corn of heaven He hath given to them.
e hizo llover maná del cielo, dándoles así pan celestial.
25 Food of the mighty hath each eaten, Venison He sent to them to satiety.
Los seres humanos comieron del pan que comen los ángeles. Y les dio más que suficiente.
26 He causeth an east wind to journey in the heavens, And leadeth by His strength a south wind,
Luego hizo soplar un viento desde el Este, y por su poder también hizo soplar el viento que viene del Sur.
27 And He raineth on them flesh as dust, And as sand of the seas — winged fowl,
Hizo llover carne como tan abundante como el polvo. Las aves eran muchas, como la arena de la playa.
28 And causeth [it] to fall in the midst of His camp, Round about His tabernacles.
E hizo caer las aves en medio del campamento, y alrededor de sus carpas.
29 And they eat, and are greatly satisfied, And their desire He bringeth to them.
Y comieron hasta que se saciaron. Les dio la comida que tanto deseaban.
30 They have not been estranged from their desire, Yet [is] their food in their mouth,
Pero antes de saciar su apetito, mientras aún masticaban la carne,
31 And the anger of God hath gone up against them, And He slayeth among their fat ones, And youths of Israel He caused to bend.
Dios se enojó con ellos e hizo morir a los hombres más fuertes, derribándolos en plena juventud.
32 With all this they have sinned again, And have not believed in His wonders.
A pesar de esto, siguieron pecando. A pesar de los milagros, se negaban a creer en él.
33 And He consumeth in vanity their days, And their years in trouble.
Así que apagó sus vidas vanas, e hizo que terminaran sus años con horror.
34 If He slew them, then they sought Him, And turned back, and sought God earnestly,
Cuando Dios comenzó a matarlos, volvieron con oraciones a él, arrepentidos de su pecado.
35 And they remember that God [is] their rock, And God Most High their redeemer.
Se acordaron de que Dios era su roca, que el Dios Altísimo era su salvador.
36 And — they deceive Him with their mouth, And with their tongue do lie to Him,
Entonces lo comenzaron adular de labios para afuera, pero solo mentían.
37 And their heart hath not been right with Him, And they have not been stedfast in His covenant.
En sus corazones no eran sinceros y no guardaron el pacto que tenían con él.
38 And He — the Merciful One, Pardoneth iniquity, and destroyeth not, And hath often turned back His anger, And waketh not up all His fury.
Pero por su compasión él perdonó su pecado y no los destruyó. Muchas veces contuvo su enojo y no desató toda su furia.
39 And He remembereth that they [are] flesh, A wind going on — and it returneth not.
Dios recordó que eran simples mortales, y que eran como el viento que se va y no regresa.
40 How often do they provoke Him in the wilderness, Grieve Him in the desolate place?
Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en el desierto, causándole tristeza.
41 Yea, they turn back, and try God, And the Holy One of Israel have limited.
Una y otra vez provocaron a Dios, causando dolor al Santo de Israel.
42 They have not remembered His hand The day He ransomed them from the adversary.
Olvidaron la fuerza con la que él los rescató de sus opresores,
43 When He set His signs in Egypt, And His wonders in the field of Zoan,
haciendo milagros en Egipto, y maravillas en la llanura de Zoán.
44 And He turneth to blood their streams, And their floods they drink not.
Allí convirtió sus ríos y fuentes de agua en sangre, de modo que nadie podía beber de ellos.
45 He sendeth among them the beetle, and it consumeth them, And the frog, and it destroyeth them,
Envió moscas para destruirlos, y ranas para que los arruinaran.
46 And giveth to the caterpillar their increase, And their labour to the locust.
Dio sus cultivos a las langostas, y todo el fruto de su trabajo fue devorado por ellas.
47 He destroyeth with hail their vine, And their sycamores with frost,
Destruyó sus viñedos con granizo, y sus higueras con aguanieve.
48 And delivereth up to the hail their beasts, And their cattle to the burning flames.
Dejó su ganado a merced del granizo y sus animales fueron destruidos por relámpagos.
49 He sendeth on them the fury of His anger, Wrath, and indignation, and distress — A discharge of evil messengers.
Envió sobre ellos su ira feroz: Rabia, hostilidad y agonía. Por ello envió un grupo de ángeles destructores.
50 He pondereth a path for His anger, He kept not back their soul from death, Yea, their life to the pestilence He delivered up.
Desató su ira sobre ellos y no los salvó de la muerte, sino que los dejó morir por causa de esta plaga.
51 And He smiteth every first-born in Egypt, The first-fruit of the strong in tents of Ham.
Entonces mató al hijo mayor de cada familia en Egipto, todos los que habían sido concebidos como primogénitos en las carpas de Ham.
52 And causeth His people to journey as a flock, And guideth them as a drove in a wilderness,
Pero a su pueblo guió como ovejas, y los condujo como un rebaño en el desierto.
53 And He leadeth them confidently, And they have not been afraid, And their enemies hath the sea covered.
Los llevó a un lugar seguro, y no tuvieron nada que temer. Ahogó a sus enemigos en el mar.
54 And He bringeth them in unto the border of His sanctuary, This mountain His right hand had got,
Los llevó hasta la frontera de su tierra santa, a esta tierra montañosa que había conquistado para ellos.
55 And casteth out nations from before them, And causeth them to fall in the line of inheritance, And causeth the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents,
A las naciones infieles las expulsaba a su paso. Dividió la tierra para que la hicieran suya. Estableció las tribus de Israel en sus carpas.
56 And they tempt and provoke God Most High, And His testimonies have not kept.
Pero ellos siguieron provocando al Altísimo, siendo rebeldes contra él. No siguieron sus enseñanzas.
57 And they turn back, And deal treacherously like their fathers, They have been turned like a deceitful bow,
Así como sus antiguos padres se alejaron de Dios y fueron infieles a él, tan torcidos como un arco doblado que no sirve.
58 And make Him angry with their high places, And with their graven images make Him zealous,
Provocaron su ira con sus altares paganos y despertaron su celo con sus ídolos.
59 God hath heard, and sheweth Himself wroth. And kicketh exceedingly against Israel.
Cuando Dios escuchó que adoraban a otros dioses se enfureció y rechazó por completo a Israel.
60 And He leaveth the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men,
Entonces abandonó su lugar en Siloé, el Tabernáculo en el que vivía en medio del pueblo.
61 And He giveth His strength to captivity, And His beauty into the hand of an adversary,
Además entregó el arca de su poder, dejando que manos enemigas la tomaran.
62 And delivereth up to the sword His people, And with His inheritance shewed Himself angry.
Entregó a su pueblo y permitió que lo masacraran a espada, pues estaba furioso con su pueblo escogido.
63 His young men hath fire consumed, And His virgins have not been praised.
Sus hombres más jóvenes fueron quemados, y las mujeres jóvenes no lograron cantar sus cánticos de bodas.
64 His priests by the sword have fallen, And their widows weep not.
Sus sacerdotes fueron asesinados con espadas y sus viudas no pudieron hacer duelo por ellos.
65 And the Lord waketh as a sleeper, As a mighty one crying aloud from wine.
Entonces el Señor reaccionó como si hubiera despertado del sueño, como un guerrero que se despierta después de embriagarse con vino.
66 And He smiteth His adversaries backward, A reproach age-during He hath put on them,
Venció a sus enemigos, atacándolos por la espalda y exponiéndolos a vergüenza eterna.
67 And He kicketh against the tent of Joseph, And on the tribe of Ephraim hath not fixed.
Rechazó a los descendientes de José y no elegió más a la tribu de Eraín.
68 And He chooseth the tribe of Judah, With mount Zion that He loved,
En su lugar eligió a la tribu de Judá y al Monte de Sión, al cual amaba.
69 And buildeth His sanctuary as a high place, Like the earth, He founded it to the age.
Allí construyó su santuario, tan alto como el cielo, y lo puso allí en esa tierra para que existiera eternamente.
70 And He fixeth on David His servant, And taketh him from the folds of a flock,
Eligió a su siervo David, tomándolo de entre los rediles de ovejas,
71 From behind suckling ones He hath brought him in, To rule over Jacob His people, And over Israel His inheritance.
y lo llevó de cuidar ovejas y corderos, a ser un pastor de los descendientes de Jacob, el pueblo especial de Dios: Israel.
72 And he ruleth them according to the integrity of his heart, And by the skilfulness of his hands leadeth them!
Como un pastor cuidó de ellos con sincera devoción, y los condujo con manos hábiles.
