Obadiah 1

1 Thus said the Lord Jehovah to Edom, A report we have heard from Jehovah, And an ambassador among nations was sent, 'Rise, yea, let us rise against her for battle.'

ওবদিয়ের দর্শন। ইদোম সম্পর্কে সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: আমরা সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে এক বার্তা শুনেছি, জাতিসমূহের কাছে বলার জন্য এক দূত প্রেরিত হয়েছিল, “তোমরা ওঠো, চলো আমরা তার বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধের জন্য যাই।”

2 Lo, little I have made thee among nations, Despised [art] thou exceedingly.

“দেখো, আমি জাতিসমূহের কাছে তোমাকে ক্ষুদ্র করব; তুমি নিতান্তই অবজ্ঞার পাত্র হবে।

3 The pride of thy heart hath lifted thee up, O dweller in clifts of a rock, (A high place [is] his habitation, He is saying in his heart, 'Who doth bring me down [to] earth?')

তোমরা যারা পাথরের ফাটলে বসবাস করো এবং উঁচু স্থানগুলিতে নিজেদের বসতি স্থাপন করো, তোমরা যারা মনে মনে বলো, ‘কে আমাদের মাটিতে নামিয়ে আনবে?’ তোমাদের মনের অহংকার তোমাদের সঙ্গে প্রতারণা করেছে।

4 If thou dost go up high as an eagle, And if between stars thou dost set thy nest, From thence I bring thee down, An affirmation of Jehovah.

যদিও তোমরা ঈগল পাখির মতো উপরে গিয়ে ওঠো, এবং তারকারাজির মধ্যে নিজেদের বাসা স্থাপন করো, সেখান থেকে আমি তোমাদের টেনে নামাব,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।

5 If thieves have come in to thee, If spoilers of the night, How hast thou been cut off! Do they not steal their sufficiency? If gatherers have come in to thee, Do they not leave gleanings?

“যদি চোরেরা তোমাদের কাছে আসত, যদি রাত্রে দস্যুরা আসত, তাহলে কী বিপর্যয়ের সম্মুখীনই না তোমরা হতে!— তাদের যতটা প্রয়োজন, তারা ততটাই কি চুরি করত না? যদি আঙুর চয়নকারীরা তোমাদের কাছে আসত, তারা কি কয়েকটি আঙুর রেখে যেত না?

6 How hath Esau been searched out! Flowed out have his hidden things,

কিন্তু এষৌকে কেমন তন্নতন্ন করে খোঁজা হবে, তার গুপ্তধন সব লুঠতরাজ করা হয়েছে!

7 Unto the border sent thee have all thine allies, Forgotten thee, prevailed over thee, have thy friends, Thy bread they make a snare under thee, There is no understanding in him!

তোমার সমস্ত মিত্রশক্তি তোমাকে সীমানা পর্যন্ত তাড়িয়ে নিয়ে যাবে, তোমার বন্ধুরা তোমার সঙ্গে প্রতারণা করে তোমাকে পরাস্ত করবে; যারা তোমার অন্ন ভোজন করে, তারা তোমার জন্য এক ফাঁদ পাতবে, কিন্তু তুমি তা বুঝতে পারবে না।”

8 Is it not in that day — an affirmation of Jehovah, That I have destroyed the wise out of Edom, And understanding out of the mount of Esau?

সদাপ্রভু ঘোষণা করেন, “সেদিন, আমি কি ইদোমের জ্ঞানী লোকেদের বিনষ্ট করব না, এষৌর পর্বতগুলিতে কি বুদ্ধিমানদের ধ্বংস করব না?

9 And broken down have been thy mighty ones, O Teman, So that every one of the mount of Esau is cut off.

ওহে তৈমন, তোমার যোদ্ধারা আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত হবে, আর এষৌর পর্বতগুলিতে বসবাসকারী প্রত্যেকে হত্যালীলায় উচ্ছিন্ন হবে।

10 For slaughter, for violence [to] thy brother Jacob, Cover thee doth shame, And thou hast been cut off — to the age.

এর কারণ হল, তোমার ভাই যাকোবের বিরুদ্ধে তোমার হিংস্রতা, তুমি লজ্জায় আচ্ছন্ন হবে; তুমি চিরকালের জন্য ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে।

11 In the day of thy standing over-against, In the day of strangers taking captive his force, And foreigners have entered his gates, And for Jerusalem have cast a lot, Even thou [art] as one of them!

যেদিন তুমি দূরে দাঁড়িয়েছিলে, যখন বিজাতীয় লোকেরা তার ধনসম্পদ বয়ে নিয়ে যাচ্ছিল, বিদেশিরা তার তোরণদ্বারগুলিতে প্রবেশ করে জেরুশালেমের জন্য গুটিকাপাত করেছিল, তুমিও তাদের একজনের মতো হয়েছিলে।

12 And — thou dost not look on the day of thy brother, On the day of his alienation, Nor dost thou rejoice over sons of Judah, In the day of their destruction, Nor make great thy mouth in a day of distress.

তোমার ভাই-এর দুর্ভাগ্যের দিনে, তার প্রতি তোমার হীনদৃষ্টি করা উচিত ছিল না, তাদের বিনাশের দিনে যিহূদার লোকদের সম্পর্কে তোমার উল্লসিত হওয়া উচিত ছিল না, না তো তাদের কষ্ট-সংকটের সময়ে তোমাদের এত বেশি দর্প করা উচিত হয়েছিল।

13 Nor come into a gate of My people in a day of their calamity, Nor look, even thou, on its misfortune in a day of its calamity, Nor send forth against its force in a day of its calamity,

আমার প্রজাদের তোরণদ্বারগুলি দিয়ে তোমাদের সমরাভিযান করা উচিত হয়নি তাদের বিপর্যয়ের দিনে, তাদের দুর্ভোগের জন্য তোমাদের তাদেরকে ঘৃণা করা উচিত হয়নি তাদের বিপর্যয়ের দিনে, না তাদের ধনসম্পদ কেড়ে নেওয়া তোমাদের উচিত হয়েছিল তাদের বিপর্যয়ের দিনে।

14 Nor stand by the breach to cut off its escaped, Nor deliver up its remnant in a day of distress.

তাদের পলাতকদের হত্যা করার জন্য রাস্তার সংযোগস্থানগুলিতে তোমাদের দাঁড়ানো উচিত হয়নি, না তো তাদের কষ্ট-সংকটের সময়ে অবশিষ্ট লোকেদের সমর্পণ করা তোমাদের উচিত হয়েছে।

15 For near [is] the day of Jehovah, on all the nations, As thou hast done, it is done to thee, Thy deed doth turn back on thine own head.

“সমস্ত জাতির জন্য সদাপ্রভুর দিন সন্নিকট হয়েছে। তোমরা যেমন করেছ, তোমাদের প্রতিও তেমনই করা হবে; তোমাদের কাজগুলির প্রতিফল তোমাদেরই মাথার উপরে ফিরে আসবে।

16 For — as ye have drunk on My holy mount, Drink do all the nations continually, And they have drunk and have swallowed, And they have been as they have not been.

তোমরা যেমন আমার পবিত্র পর্বতে পান করেছিলে, তেমনই সব জাতি অবিরত পান করবে; তারা পান করবে ও করেই যাবে, এবং এমন হবে, যেন তেমন কখনও হয়নি।

17 And in mount Zion there is an escape, And it hath been holy, And the house of Jacob have possessed their possessions.

কিন্তু সিয়োন পর্বতে উদ্ধারপ্রাপ্ত লোকেরা থাকবে; তা পবিত্র হবে, আর যাকোবের কুল তার উত্তরাধিকার ভোগ করবে।

18 And the house of Jacob hath been a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame, And the house of Esau for stubble, And they have burned among them, And they have consumed them, And there is not a remnant to the house of Esau, For Jehovah hath spoken.

যাকোবের কুল হবে আগুনের মতো আর যোষেফের কুল হবে আগুনের শিখার মতো; এষৌর কুল হবে খড়কুটোর মতো, তারা তাকে দাহ করে গ্রাস করবে। এষৌর কুল থেকে অবশিষ্ট রক্ষাপ্রাপ্ত কেউই থাকবে না।” সদাপ্রভু একথা বলেছেন।

19 And they have possessed the south with the mount of Esau, And the low country with the Philistines, And they have possessed the field of Ephraim, And the field of Samaria, And Benjamin with Gilead.

নেগেভ থেকে লোকেরা এসে এষৌর পাহাড়গুলি দখল করবে। নিচু পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলের লোকেরা ফিলিস্তিনীদের দেশ অধিকার করবে। তারা এসে ইফ্রয়িম ও শমরিয়ার ক্ষেত্রের দখল নেবে এবং বিন্যামীন গিলিয়দ অধিকার করবে।

20 And the removed of this force of the sons of Israel, That [is with] the Canaanites unto Zarephat, And the removed of Jerusalem that [is] with the Sepharad, Possess the cities of the south.

এই ইস্রায়েলী নির্বাসিতের দল, যারা কনানে আছে, তারা সারিফত পর্যন্ত দেশ অধিকার করবে; জেরুশালেম থেকে নির্বাসিতের দল, যারা সফারদে আছে, তারা নেগেভের নগরগুলি অধিকার করবে।

21 And gone up have saviours on mount Zion, To judge the mount of Esau, And the kingdom hath been to Jehovah!'

উদ্ধারকারীদের দল সিয়োন পর্বতে উঠে যাবে, যেন এষৌর পর্বতগুলি শাসন করতে পারে। আর সেই রাজ্য সদাপ্রভুরই হবে।
