Jeremiah 44
1 The word that hath been unto Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who are dwelling in the land of Egypt — who are dwelling in Migdol, and in Tahpanhes, and in Noph, and in the land of Pathros — saying,
La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie pour tous les Juifs établis au pays d'Egypte, habitant à Migdol, et à Tachphanès, et à Noph, et au pays de Pathros, en ces termes:
2 'Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Ye — ye have seen all the evil that I have brought in on Jerusalem, and on all the cities of Judah, and lo, they [are] a waste this day, and there is none dwelling in them,
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Vous avez vu tous les maux que j'ai fait venir sur Jérusalem et sur toutes les villes de Juda, et les voilà en ruine aujourd'hui, et dépeuplées,
3 because of their wickedness that they have done, by provoking Me to anger, by going to make perfume, by serving other gods, that they knew not, they, ye, and your fathers.
à cause du mal qu'ils ont commis, afin de m'irriter, en allant encenser et servir d'autres dieux inconnus à eux, à vous et à vos pères.
4 'And I send unto you all my servants, the prophets, rising early and sending, saying: I pray you, do not this abomination that I have hated —
Et je vous envoyai tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes, dès le matin, pour vous dire: « Ne faites donc pas ces choses abominables que je hais! »
5 and they have not hearkened nor inclined their ear, to turn back from their wickedness, not to make perfume to other gods,
mais ils n'écoutèrent point et ne prêtèrent point l'oreille pour renoncer à leur méchanceté, en n'encensant plus d'autres dieux.
6 and poured out is My fury, and Mine anger, and it burneth in cities of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem, and they are for a waste, for a desolation, as [at] this day.
Alors ma fureur et ma colère s'épancha, et consuma les villes de Juda et les rues de Jérusalem, qui devinrent des ruines et un désert, comme elles le sont aujourd'hui.
7 'And, now, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Why are ye doing great evil unto your own souls, to cut off to you man and woman, infant and suckling, from the midst of Judah, so as not to leave to you a remnant:
Et maintenant, ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Pourquoi faites-vous un si grand mal pour vous perdre, que d'être cause du retranchement de vos hommes et de vos femmes, de vos enfants et de vos nourrissons, du milieu de Juda, de sorte qu'il ne survive aucun d'entre vous?
8 by provoking Me to anger by the works of your hands, by making perfume to other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye are going in to sojourn, so as to cut yourselves off, and so as to your being for a reviling and for a reproach among all nations of the earth?
que de m'irriter par l'œuvre de vos mains, en encensant d'autres dieux au pays d'Egypte, où vous êtes allés demeurer, pour être exterminés, et pour devenir une malédiction et un opprobre parmi tous les peuples de la terre?
9 'Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, that they have done in the land of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem?
Avez-vous oublié les crimes de vos pères, et les crimes des rois de Juda, et les crimes de leurs femmes, et vos crimes, et les crimes de vos femmes, commis dans le pays de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
10 They have not been humbled unto this day, nor have they been afraid, nor have they walked in My law, and in My statutes, that I have set before you and before your fathers.
Ils ne se sont point humiliés jusques aujourd'hui; ils n'ont eu aucune crainte, et n'ont point suivi ma loi, ni mes commandements que j'avais mis sous vos yeux et sous les yeux de vos pères.
11 'Therefore, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am setting my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah,
C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je tourne les yeux contre vous, pour maltraiter et pour exterminer tout Juda.
12 and I have taken the remnant of Judah, who have set their faces to enter the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they have all been consumed in the land of Egypt; they fall by sword, by famine they are consumed, from the least even unto the greatest, by sword and by famine they die, and they have been for an execration, for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach.
Et je veux enlever les survivants de Juda qui ont pris le parti d'aller au pays d'Egypte pour s'y fixer, et ils seront tous consumés; ils tomberont dans le pays d'Egypte; l'épée et la famine les dévoreront du petit au grand; ils périront par l'épée et la famine, et ils seront en exécration, et en horreur, et en malédiction et en opprobre.
13 'And I have seen after those dwelling in the land of Egypt, as I saw after Jerusalem, with sword, with famine, and with pestilence,
Et je châtierai ceux qui habitent au pays d'Egypte, comme j'ai châtié Jérusalem, par l'épée, la famine et la peste,
14 and there is not an escaped and remaining one of the remnant of Judah, who are entering into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, even to turn back to the land of Judah, whither they are lifting up their soul to return to dwell, for they do not turn back, except those escaping.'
et nul ne se sauvera, ni n'échappera parmi les survivants de Juda venus pour s'y fixer, dans le pays d'Egypte, et pour retourner au pays de Juda où leur âme languit de revenir habiter, car ils n'y reviendront pas, sinon des réchappés.
15 And they answer Jeremiah — all the men who are knowing that their wives are making perfume to other gods, and all the women who are remaining, a great assembly, even all the people who are dwelling in the land of Egypt, in Pathros — saying:
Et tous les hommes, qui savaient que leurs femmes avaient encensé d'autres dieux, et toutes les femmes qui se trouvaient là en grand nombre, et tout le peuple qui habitait au pays d'Egypte et à Pathros, répondirent à Jérémie, et dirent:
16 'The word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of Jehovah — we are not hearkening unto thee;
Nous n'obéirons à rien de ce que tu nous as dit au nom de l'Éternel;
17 for we certainly do everything that hath gone out of our mouth, to make perfume to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out to her libations, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our heads, in cities of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem, and — we are satisfied with bread, and we are well, and evil we have not seen.
mais nous voulons faire tout ce que notre bouche a exprimé, encenser la reine des Cieux, et lui offrir des libations, comme nous l'avons fait, nous et nos pères, nos rois et nos princes, dans les villes de Juda, et dans les rues de Jérusalem, pour que nous ayons du pain en abondance, et que nous soyons heureux et que nous ne voyions pas la calamité.
18 'And from the time we have ceased to make perfume to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out to her libations, we have lacked all, and by sword and by famine we have been consumed,
Car, depuis que nous avons cessé d'encenser la reine des Cieux et de lui offrir des libations, nous manquons de tout, et nous sommes détruits par l'épée et la famine.
19 and when we are making perfume to the queen of the heavens, and pouring out to her libations — without our husbands have we made for her cakes to idolize her, and to pour out to her libations?'
Et, [dirent les femmes], si nous encensons la reine des Cieux, et lui offrons des libations, est-ce à l'insu de nos maris que nous faisons pour elle des gâteaux portant son effigie, et que nous lui offrons des libations?
20 And Jeremiah saith unto all the people, concerning the men and concerning the women, and concerning all the people who are answering him, saying:
Alors Jérémie s'adressa à tout le peuple, aux hommes et aux femmes, et à tout le peuple qui lui avait répliqué, et dit:
21 'The perfume that ye made in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your heads, and the people of the land, hath not Jehovah remembered it? yea, it cometh up on His heart.
L'encens que vous avez brûlé dans les villes de Juda et les rues de Jérusalem, vous et vos pères, vos rois et vos princes, et le peuple du pays, l'Éternel ne se le rappelle-t-Il pas, ne lui revient-il pas dans la pensée?
22 And Jehovah is not able any more to accept [you], because of the evil of your doings, because of the abominations that ye have done, and your land is for a waste, and for an astonishment, and for a reviling, without inhabitant, as [at] this day.
Et l'Éternel n'a pu le supporter davantage, à cause de la malice de vos actions, à cause des abominations que vous avez faites, et votre pays est devenu un désert, et une désolation, et une malédiction, il a été dépeuplé, comme il l'est aujourd'hui.
23 'Because that ye have made perfume, and because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and in His law, and in His statutes, and in His testimonies ye have not walked, therefore hath this evil met you as [at] this day.'
Parce que vous avez brûlé de l'encens, et que vous avez péché contre l'Éternel, et que vous n'avez point obéi à la voix de l'Éternel, ni suivi sa loi, et ses ordonnances et ses commandements, c'est pour cela que vous sont survenus ces maux, tels qu'ils sont aujourd'hui.
24 And Jeremiah saith unto all the people, and unto all the women, 'Hear ye a word of Jehovah, all Judah who [are] in the land of Egypt,
Et Jérémie dit à tout le peuple et à toutes les femmes: Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, vous tous les hommes de Juda, qui êtes au pays d'Egypte.
25 Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, saying: Ye and your wives both speak with your mouth, and with your hands have fulfilled, saying: We certainly execute our vows that we have vowed, to make perfume to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out to her libations, ye do certainly establish your vows, and certainly execute your vows.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Vous et vos femmes, vous parlez de vos bouches, et de vos mains vous accomplissez vos paroles; vous dites: Nous accomplirons les vœux que nous avons faits, d'encenser la reine des Cieux, et de lui offrir des libations; oui, tenez, tenez vos vœux! accomplissez, accomplissez vos vœux!
26 'Therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah, all Judah who are dwelling in the land of Egypt: Lo, I — I have sworn by My great name, said Jehovah, My name is no more proclaimed by the mouth of any man of Judah, saying, Live doth the Lord Jehovah — in all the land of Egypt.
Aussi, écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, vous tous les Juifs qui habitez au pays d'Egypte: Voici, je le jure par mon grand nom, dit l'Éternel, mon nom ne sera plus nommé par la bouche d'aucun des Juifs qui disent: « Vive notre Seigneur, l'Éternel! » dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
27 Lo, I am watching over them for evil, and not for good, and consumed have been all the men of Judah who [are] in the land of Egypt, by sword and by famine, till their consumption.
Voici, je veille sur eux pour leur faire du mal et non pas du bien; et tous les hommes de Juda qui sont au pays d'Egypte, périront par l'épée et par la famine, jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient anéantis.
28 'And the escaped of the sword turn back out of the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, few in number, and known have all the remnant of Judah who are coming into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, whose word is established, Mine or theirs.
Et ceux qui échapperont à l'épée reviendront du pays d'Egypte au pays de Juda, en petit nombre, et tous les survivants de Juda venus au pays d'Egypte pour s'y fixer, sauront quelle parole aura son effet, la mienne ou la leur.
29 'And this [is] to you the sign — an affirmation of Jehovah — that I am seeing after you in this place, so that ye know that My words are certainly established against you for evil;
Et que ce soit ici, dit l'Éternel, le signe que je vous châtierai en ce lieu, afin que vous sachiez qu'elles auront leur effet, les menaces que je prononce contre vous;
30 Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving Pharaoh-Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those seeking his life, as I have given Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and who is seeking his life.'
ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je livre Pharaon Hophra, roi d'Egypte, aux mains de ses ennemis, et aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à sa vie, comme j'ai livré Sédécias, roi de Juda, aux mains de Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel, son ennemi, qui en voulait à sa vie.
