Genesis 14

1 And it cometh to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goyim,

Et il arriva dans le temps de Amraphel, roi de Sinear, de Arioch, roi d'Elassar, de Kedorlahomer, roi d'Elam, et de Thideal, roi des Gentils,

2 they have made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which [is] Zoar.

qu'ils firent la guerre à Berah, roi de Sodome, et à Birsah, roi de Gomorrhe, à Sineab, roi d'Adamah, et à Seméber, roi de Tseboïm, et au roi de Béla, c'est-à-dire de Tsohar.

3 All these have been joined together unto the valley of Siddim, which [is] the Salt Sea;

Tous ils se réunirent dans la vallée de Siddim (qui est la mer Salée).

4 twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and the thirteenth year they rebelled.

Douze ans ils avaient été asservis à Kedorlahomer, et la treizième année ils se révoltèrent.

5 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings who [are] with him, and they smite the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

Et la quatorzième année Kedorlahomer et les rois ses alliés vinrent et défirent les Rephaïms à Astaroth-Karnaïm et les Zuzites à Ham et les Emim à Save-Kiriathaïm

6 and the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El-Paran, which [is] by the wilderness;

et les Horites sur leur montagne de Seïr jusqu'au chêne de Paran qui confine au désert.

7 and they turn back and come in unto En-Mishpat, which [is] Kadesh, and smite the whole field of the Amalekite, and also the Amorite who is dwelling in Hazezon-Tamar.

Puis faisant volte-face ils se portèrent sur la Fontaine-du-Jugement qui est Kadès et mirent en déroute toute la contrée des Amalécites, et aussi les Amoréens établis à Hatsatson-Thamar.

8 And the king of Sodom goeth out, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which [is] Zoar; and they set the battle in array with them in the valley of Siddim,

Alors se mirent en campagne le roi de Sodome et le roi de Gomorrhe et le roi d'Adamah et le roi de Tseboïm et le roi de Béla (c'est-à-dire de Tsohar) et ils se rangèrent en bataille contre eux dans la vallée de Siddim,

9 with Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goyim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with the five.

contre Kedorlahomer, roi d'Elam, et Thideal, roi des Gentils, et Amraphel, roi de Sinear, et Arioch, roi d'Elassar, quatre rois contre cinq.

10 And the valley of Siddim [is] full of bitumen-pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah flee, and fall there, and those left have fled to the mountain.

Or dans la vallée de Siddim il y avait force puits de bitume; et le roi de Sodome et celui de Gomorrhe prirent la fuite et y tombèrent, et les survivants s'enfuirent dans la montagne.

11 And they take the whole substance of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the whole of their food, and go away;

Alors ils prirent toute la richesse de Sodome et de Gomorrhe et toutes leurs provisions de bouche et partirent.

12 and they take Lot, Abram's brother's son (seeing he is dwelling in Sodom), and his substance, and go away.

Et ils prirent Lot et sa richesse, le fils du frère d'Abram, et partirent; or il habitait Sodome.

13 And one who is escaping cometh and declareth to Abram the Hebrew, and he is dwelling among the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner, and they [are] Abram's allies.

Alors arriva un fugitif qui informa Abram l'hébreu; or il habitait sous les chênes de Mamré, l'Amoréen, frère d'Eskol et de Aner, qui étaient les alliés d'Abram.

14 And Abram heareth that his brother hath been taken captive, and he draweth out his trained domestics, three hundred and eighteen, and pursueth unto Dan.

Et Abram apprenant que son frère avait été emmené captif, mit en campagne ses gens éprouvés, serfs nés dans sa maison, au nombre de trois cent-dix-huit, et il poussa la poursuite jusqu'à Dan.

15 And he divideth himself against them by night, he and his servants, and smiteth them, and pursueth them unto Hobah, which [is] at the left of Damascus;

Et ayant formé ses divisions, il les attaqua de nuit, lui et ses serviteurs, et les défit et les poursuivit jusqu'à Chobah, située à gauche de Damas.

16 and he bringeth back the whole of the substance, and also Lot his brother and his substance hath he brought back, and also the women and the people.

Et il ramena toute la richesse, et aussi Lot, son frère, et sa richesse, et aussi les femmes et le peuple.

17 And the king of Sodom goeth out to meet him (after his turning back from the smiting of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings who [are] with him), unto the valley of Shaveh, which [is] the king's valley.

Alors le roi de Sodome sortit à sa rencontre, quand après avoir défait Kedorlahomer et les rois ses auxiliaires il fut de retour dans la vallée de Save, qui est la vallée royale.

18 And Melchizedek king of Salem hath brought out bread and wine, and he [is] priest of God Most High;

Et Melchisédek, roi de Salem, apporta du pain et du vin; (or il était prêtre de Dieu le Très-Haut; )

19 and he blesseth him, and saith, 'Blessed [is] Abram to God Most High, possessing heaven and earth;

et il le bénit et dit: Qu'Abram soit béni de Dieu le Très-Haut, maître des cieux et de la terre!

20 and blessed [is] God Most High, who hath delivered thine adversaries into thy hand;' and he giveth to him a tenth of all.

Et béni soit Dieu le Très-Haut qui a mis tes ennemis entre tes mains! Et il lui donna la dîme de tout.

21 And the king of Sodom saith unto Abram, 'Give to me the persons, and the substance take to thyself,'

Et le roi de Sodome dit à Abram: Donne-moi les personnes et prends pour toi les richesses.

22 and Abram saith unto the king of Sodom, 'I have lifted up my hand unto Jehovah, God Most High, possessing heaven and earth —

Mais Abram répondit au roi de Sodome: La main levée vers l'Éternel, Dieu très-haut, Maître des cieux et de la terre!

23 from a thread even unto a shoe-latchet I take not of anything which thou hast, that thou say not, I — I have made Abram rich;

non, du brin de fil à la courroie de la chaussure, je n'accepterai rien de ce qui t'appartient, afin que tu ne dises pas: J'ai enrichi Abram;

24 save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who have gone with me — Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre — they take their portion.'

j'excepte uniquement ce qu'ont mangé mes gens, la portion des hommes qui ont marché avec moi, d'Aner, d'Eskol et de Mamré: pour eux, qu'ils prennent leur part!
