Exodus 20
1 'And God speaketh all these words, saying,
Alors Dieu prononça toutes ces paroles et dit:
2 I [am] Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants.
Je suis l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai retiré du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.
3 'Thou hast no other Gods before Me.
Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux a ma face.
4 'Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which [is] in the heavens above, or which [is] in the earth beneath, or which [is] in the waters under the earth.
tu ne te feras point d'idoles, ni aucune image, de rien de ce qui est en haut dans les cieux, ni en bas sur la terre, et dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre.
5 Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, [am] a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third [generation], and on the fourth, of those hating Me,
Tu ne les adoreras point, et ne les serviras point, car moi, l'Éternel, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux qui punis le crime des pères sur les enfants à la troisième et quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,
6 and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands.
mais qui fais miséricorde jusqu'à la millième génération à ceux qui m'aiment et gardent mes commandements.
7 'Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing.
Tu ne proféreras point le nom de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, légèrement, car l'Éternel ne laissera pas impuni celui qui proférera son nom légèrement.
8 'Remember the Sabbath-day to sanctify it;
Souviens-toi du jour du repos pour le sanctifier;
9 six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,
six jours tu travailleras et feras toutes tes affaires;
10 and the seventh day [is] a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, —
mais le septième jour est le jour du repos de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, tu ne l'emploieras à aucune affaire, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bétail, ni ton étranger qui est dans tes portes.
11 for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that [is] in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it.
Car en six jours l'éternel a fait les cieux et la terre et la mer et tout ce qui y est, et Il s'est reposé le septième jour; c'est pourquoi l'Éternel a béni le jour du repos, et l'a consacré.
12 'Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days are prolonged on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que tes jours se prolongent au pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne.
13 'Thou dost not murder.
Tu ne seras point meurtrier.
14 'Thou dost not commit adultery.
Tu ne seras point adultère.
15 'Thou dost not steal.
Tu ne seras point larron.
16 'Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony.
Tu ne seras point faux témoin contre ton prochain.
17 'Thou dost not desire the house of thy neighbour, thou dost not desire the wife of thy neighbour, or his man-servant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which [is] thy neighbour's.'
Tu ne convoiteras point la maison de ton prochain; tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui est à ton prochain.
18 And all the people are seeing the voices, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and the people see, and move, and stand afar off,
Et tout le peuple fut témoin des tonnerres, et des flammes et du bruit des trompettes et de la fumée qui sortait de la montagne, et à cet aspect le peuple s'enfuit et se tint à distance,
19 and say unto Moses, 'Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.'
et il dit à Moïse: Parle-nous, toi, et nous écouterons; mais que Dieu ne nous parle pas, de peur que nous ne mourions.
20 And Moses saith unto the people, 'Fear not, for to try you hath God come, and in order that His fear may be before your faces — that ye sin not.'
Alors Moïse dit au peuple: Ne vous effrayez pas! car c'est pour vous mettre à l'épreuve que Dieu est venu, et c'est pour que vous ayez sa crainte devant les yeux, afin que vous ne péchiez point.
21 And the people stand afar off, and Moses hath drawn nigh unto the thick darkness where God [is].
Le peuple se tint donc à distance, et Moïse s'approcha de la sombre nuée où était Dieu.
22 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel: Ye — ye have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you;
Alors l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Ainsi parleras-tu aux enfants d'Israël: Vous avez vu que je vous ai parlé depuis le ciel.
23 ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves.
Vous ne vous ferez point de dieux d'argent pour me les associer, et vous ne vous ferez point de dieux d'or.
24 'An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee.
Tu me dresseras un autel de terre, et tu y sacrifieras tes holocaustes et tes hosties pacifiques, tes brebis et tes bœufs; partout où je mettrai la mémoire de mon nom, je viendrai à toi et te bénirai.
25 'And if an altar of stones thou dost make to Me, thou dost not build them of hewn work; when thy tool thou hast waved over it, then thou dost pollute it;
Que si tu me dresses un autel de pierres, bâtis-le de pierres non taillées, car en faisant passer le fer sur elles, tu les profanerais.
26 neither dost thou go up by steps on Mine altar, that thy nakedness be not revealed upon it.
Tu ne monteras point à mon autel par des degrés, de peur que tu n'y découvres ta nudité.
