Ecclesiastes 10

1 Dead flies cause a perfumer's perfume To send forth a stink; The precious by reason of wisdom — By reason of honour — a little folly!

ചത്ത ഈച്ച സുഗന്ധതൈലത്തിനു ദുർഗന്ധം വരുത്തുന്നതുപോലെ അൽപ്പഭോഷത്വം ജ്ഞാനത്തെയും ബഹുമാനത്തെയും നഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

2 The heart of the wise [is] at his right hand, And the heart of a fool at his left.

ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ഹൃദയം വലത്തേക്കു ചായുന്നു, എന്നാൽ ഭോഷരുടെ ഹൃദയം ഇടത്തേക്കും.

3 And also, when he that is a fool Is walking in the way, his heart is lacking, And he hath said to every one, 'He [is] a fool.'

വഴിയേ നടക്കുമ്പോൾപോലും ഭോഷർക്ക് യുക്തി കുറഞ്ഞുപോകുകയും താൻ ഒരു വിഡ്ഢിയാണെന്ന് എല്ലാവരുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ തെളിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

4 If the spirit of the ruler go up against thee, Thy place leave not, For yielding quieteth great sinners.

ഒരു ഭരണാധിപന്റെ ക്രോധം നിനക്കെതിരേ ഉയരുന്നെങ്കിൽ നിന്റെ പദവി നീ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കരുത്; പല തെറ്റുകളെയും അടക്കാൻ ശാന്തതയ്ക്കു കഴിയും.

5 There is an evil I have seen under the sun, As an error that goeth out from the ruler,

സൂര്യനുകീഴിൽ ഞാൻ ഒരു തിന്മ കണ്ടു, ഭരണാധിപരിൽനിന്നുമുണ്ടാകുന്ന ഒരുതരം തെറ്റുതന്നെ:

6 He hath set the fool in many high places, And the rich in a low place do sit.

ഭോഷരെ ഉന്നതപദവികളിൽ വെക്കുകയും കാര്യശേഷിയുള്ളവർക്ക് താണപദവികൾ നൽകുകയുംചെയ്യുന്നു.

7 I have seen servants on horses, And princes walking as servants on the earth.

അടിമകൾ കുതിരപ്പുറത്തിരിക്കുന്നതും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാർ അടിമകളെപ്പോലെ കാൽനടയായി പോകുന്നതും ഞാൻ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.

8 Whoso is digging a pit falleth into it, And whoso is breaking a hedge, a serpent biteth him.

കുഴി കുഴിക്കുന്നവർ അതിൽത്തന്നെ വീഴുന്നു; മതിൽ പൊളിക്കുന്നവരെ പാമ്പു കടിക്കുന്നു.

9 Whoso is removing stones is grieved by them, Whoso is cleaving trees endangered by them.

പാറമടയിൽ ജോലിചെയ്യുന്നവർക്ക് അവയാൽ മുറിവുണ്ടാകാം; വിറകു കീറുന്നവർക്ക് അവയാൽ ആപത്തുമുണ്ടാകാം.

10 If the iron hath been blunt, And he the face hath not sharpened, Then doth he increase strength, And wisdom [is] advantageous to make right.

മഴു ബലമില്ലാത്തതും അതിന്റെ വായ്ത്തല മൂർച്ചയില്ലാത്തതുമാണെങ്കിൽ കൂടുതൽ ശക്തി ആവശ്യമായി വരും, എന്നാൽ സാമർഥ്യം വിജയം നൽകും.

11 If the serpent biteth without enchantment, Then there is no advantage to a master of the tongue.

പാമ്പാട്ടി പിടിച്ച പാമ്പു മെരുക്കപ്പെടുന്നതിനുമുമ്പേ അയാളെ കടിച്ചാൽ അയാൾക്കൊരു പ്രയോജനവുമുണ്ടായില്ലല്ലോ.

12 Words of the mouth of the wise [are] gracious, And the lips of a fool swallow him up.

ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ വായിൽനിന്നുവരുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ ലാവണ്യമുള്ളത്, എന്നാൽ ഭോഷർ അവരുടെ സ്വന്തം അധരങ്ങളാൽ നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

13 The beginning of the words of his mouth [is] folly, And the latter end of his mouth [Is] mischievous madness.

ആരംഭത്തിൽത്തന്നെ അവരുടെ വാക്കുകൾ ഭോഷത്വം നിറഞ്ഞതാണ്; അവസാനത്തിലോ, അവ ദുഷ്ടതയുടെ മതിഭ്രമം വെളിവാക്കുന്നു—

14 And the fool multiplieth words: 'Man knoweth not that which is, And that which is after him, who doth declare to him?'

ഭോഷർ വാക്കുകൾ പെരുക്കുന്നു. എന്താണു സംഭവിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ആർക്കും ഒരു നിശ്ചയവുമില്ല— തനിക്കുശേഷം എന്തു സംഭവിക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രവചിക്കാൻ ആർക്കു കഴിയും?

15 The labour of the foolish wearieth him, In that he hath not known to go unto the city.

ഭോഷരുടെ അധ്വാനം അവരെ ക്ഷീണിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴി അവർ അറിയുന്നില്ല.

16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king [is] a youth, And thy princes do eat in the morning.

ദാസൻ രാജാവായിത്തീർന്ന ദേശമേ, അതികാലത്തുതന്നെ സദ്യക്കിരിക്കുന്ന രാജകുമാരന്മാരുള്ള ദേശമേ, നിനക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം!

17 Happy art thou, O land, When thy king [is] a son of freemen, And thy princes do eat in due season, For might, and not for drunkenness.

കുലീനനായ രാജാവും മദോന്മത്തരാകാനല്ല, ശക്തിനേടാൻ യഥാകാലത്തു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്ന രാജകുമാരന്മാരുള്ള ദേശമേ, നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.

18 By slothfulness is the wall brought low, And by idleness of the hands doth the house drop.

ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ മടിയനെങ്കിൽ, മേൽപ്പുര വീഴുന്നു; അയാളുടെ കരങ്ങൾ അലസമെങ്കിൽ വീട് ചോരുന്നു.

19 For mirth they are making a feast, And wine maketh life joyful, And the silver answereth with all.

വിരുന്ന് ചിരിക്കാനുള്ള അവസരം, വീഞ്ഞ് ജീവിതത്തെ ആനന്ദമുള്ളതാക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ എല്ലാറ്റിന്റെയും ഉത്തരം പണമാണ്.

20 Even in thy mind a king revile not, And in the inner parts of thy bed-chamber Revile not the rich: For a fowl of the heavens causeth the voice to go, And a possessor of wings declareth the word.

മനസ്സിൽപോലും രാജാവിനെ നിന്ദിക്കരുത്, കിടക്കറയിൽവെച്ചു ധനാഢ്യരെ ശപിക്കുകയും അരുത്, കാരണം ആകാശത്തിലെ പക്ഷി നിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ വഹിക്കുകയും, പറവജാതി നീ പറയുന്നതു പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കുകയുംചെയ്യാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്.
