Deuteronomy 10

1 'At that time hath Jehovah said unto me, Grave for thee two tables of stone, like the first, and come up unto Me, into the mount, and thou hast made for thee an ark of wood,

Dans ce même temps l'Éternel me dit: Taille-toi deux Tables de pierre, comme les premières, et monte vers moi sur la montagne et fais-toi une Arche de bois,

2 and I write on the tables the words which were on the first tables, which thou hast broken, and thou hast placed them in the ark;

et j'écrirai sur les Tables les Paroles qui se trouvaient sur les premières Tables que tu as brisées, et tu les placeras dans l'Arche.

3 and I make an ark of shittim wood, and grave two tables of stone like the first, and go up to the mount, and the two tables in my hand.

Je fis donc une Arche de bois d'acacia et taillai deux Tables de pierre pareilles aux premières, et je montai à la montagne ayant les deux Tables dans ma main.

4 'And He writeth on the tables, according to the first writing, the Ten Matters, which Jehovah hath spoken unto you in the mount, out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly, and Jehovah giveth them unto me,

Alors Il écrivit sur les Tables les mêmes choses qui avaient été écrites sur les premières, les Dix Paroles que l'Éternel vous avait adressées sur la montagne du milieu du feu le jour de l'Assemblée; et l'Éternel me les donna.

5 and I turn and come down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made, and they are there, as Jehovah commanded me.

Et me retournant je descendis de la montagne et je mis les Tables dans l'Arche que j'avais faite, et elles y furent, comme l'Éternel me l'avait commandé.

6 'And the sons of Israel have journeyed from Beeroth of the sons of Jaakan to Mosera, there Aaron died, and he is buried there, and Eleazar his son doth act as priest in his stead;

Et les enfants d'Israël partirent de Beeroth Benei-Jaakan pour Moser. Là mourut Aaron, et il y reçut la sépulture, et Eléazar, son fils, lui succéda dans le sacerdoce.

7 thence they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.

De là ils se portèrent à Gudgoda, et de Gudgoda à Jotbath, pays de cours d'eaux.

8 'At that time hath Jehovah separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, to stand before Jehovah, to serve Him, and to bless in His name, unto this day,

C'est dans ce temps-là que l'Éternel mit à part la Tribu de Lévi, pour porter l'Arche de l'Alliance de l'Éternel, et se tenir devant l'Éternel pour le servir, et pour bénir en son nom, jusqu'aujourd'hui.

9 therefore there hath not been to Levi a portion and inheritance with his brethren; Jehovah Himself [is] his inheritance, as Jehovah thy God hath spoken to him.

C'est pourquoi Lévi n'eut point de portion ni de lot avec ses frères: l'Éternel est son lot, ainsi que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, le lui a dit.

10 'And I — I have stood in the mount, as the former days, forty days and forty nights, and Jehovah hearkeneth unto me also at that time; Jehovah hath not willed to destroy thee.

Or moi je restai sur la montagne, comme dans le séjour précédent, quarante jours et quarante nuits; et l'Éternel m'exauça aussi cette fois: l'Éternel ne voulut plus vous perdre.

11 'And Jehovah saith unto me, Rise, go to journey before the people, and they go in and possess the land which I have sworn to their fathers to give to them.

Et l'Éternel me dit: Lève-toi, et dans le décampement marche à la tête du peuple, afin qu'ils arrivent et fassent la conquête du pays que j'ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner.

12 'And now, Israel, what is Jehovah thy God asking from thee, except to fear Jehovah thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,

Et maintenant, Israël, qu'est-ce que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, exige de toi, sinon de craindre l'Éternel, ton Dieu, de marcher dans toutes ses voies, et de l'aimer, et de servir l'Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme,

13 to keep the commands of Jehovah, and His statutes which I am commanding thee to-day, for good to thee?

de garder les commandements de l'Éternel et ses statuts que je te prescris aujourd'hui pour ton bien.

14 'Lo, to Jehovah thy God [are] the heavens and the heavens of the heavens, the earth and all that [is] in it;

Voici, à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, appartiennent les Cieux et les Cieux des Cieux, la terre et tout ce qu'elle renferme;

15 only in thy fathers hath Jehovah delighted — to love them, and He doth fix on their seed after them — on you, out of all the peoples as [at] this day;

cependant c'est à tes pères seuls que l'Éternel s'est attaché pour les aimer, et Il a choisi leur race qui viendrait après eux, vous, entre tous les peuples, comme [il arrive] aujourd'hui.

16 and ye have circumcised the foreskin of your heart, and your neck ye do not harden any more;

En conséquence circoncisez le prépuce de vos cœurs et n'ayez plus le col roide.

17 for Jehovah your God — He [is] God of the gods, and Lord of the lords; God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful; who accepteth not persons, nor taketh a bribe;

Car l'Éternel, votre Dieu, est le Dieu des Dieux, et le Seigneur des Seigneurs, le Dieu grand, puissant et redoutable qui ne fait point acception des personnes, et n'accepte point de présents,

18 He is doing the judgment of fatherless and widow, and loving the sojourner, to give to him bread and raiment.

qui fait droit à l'orphelin et à la veuve et aime l'étranger et lui donne nourriture et vêtement.

19 'And ye have loved the sojourner, for sojourners ye were in the land of Egypt.

Aimez donc les étrangers, car vous fûtes étrangers dans le pays d'Egypte.

20 'Jehovah thy God thou dost fear, Him thou dost serve, and to Him thou dost cleave, and by His name thou dost swear.

Crains l'Éternel, ton Dieu, sers-le, reste lui attaché et jure par son nom.

21 He [is] thy praise, and He [is] thy God, who hath done with thee these great and fearful [things] which thine eyes have seen:

Il est ta gloire, et Il est ton Dieu qui a opéré pour toi ces choses grandes et terribles que tes yeux ont vues.

22 with seventy persons did thy fathers go down to Egypt, and now hath Jehovah thy God made thee as stars of the heavens for multitude.

C'est avec soixante-dix âmes que tes pères descendirent en Egypte, et maintenant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a rendu égal en nombre aux étoiles des Cieux.
