2 Samuel 12
1 And Jehovah sendeth Nathan unto David, and he cometh unto him, and saith to him: 'Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;
Et l'Éternel adressa Nathan à David. Et entré chez lui, il lui dit: Dans une ville il y avait deux hommes, l'un riche, l'autre pauvre.
2 The rich hath flocks and herds very many;
Le riche avait des brebis et des bœufs en très grand nombre.
3 And the poor one hath nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he hath bought, and keepeth alive, And it groweth up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eateth, And from his cup it drinketh, And in his bosom it lieth, And it is to him as a daughter;
Et pour tout bien le pauvre ne possédait qu'un seul petit agneau qu'il avait acheté, et qu'il élevait, et qui grandissait à ses côtés et avec ses fils, en même temps, et mangeait à son morceau de pain et buvait à sa coupe et couchait dans son sein et était pour lui comme une fille.
4 And there cometh a traveller to the rich man, And he spareth to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who hath come to him, And he taketh the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepareth it for the man Who hath come unto him.'
Et un voyageur arriva chez l'homme riche, et il en coûtait à celui-ci de prendre parmi ses brebis ou ses bœufs de quoi traiter l'hôte qui lui venait, et il prit l'agneau de l'homme pauvre et l'apprêta pour l'homme arrivé chez lui.
5 And the anger of David burneth against the man exceedingly, and he saith unto Nathan, 'Jehovah liveth, surely a son of death [is] the man who is doing this,
Alors David fut enflammé d'une violente colère contre le riche et il dit à Nathan: Par la vie de l'Éternel! il mérite la mort, celui qui a fait cette action.
6 and the ewe-lamb he doth repay fourfold, because that he hath done this thing, and because that he had no pity.'
Il faut que pour l'agneau il donne une compensation quadruple, puisqu'il a été capable d'un tel acte, et qu'il est resté sans pitié.
7 And Nathan saith unto David, 'Thou [art] the man! Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I anointed thee for king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
Et Nathan dit à David: Tu es cet homme-là! Ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël: Je t'ai oint comme Roi d'Israël, et je t'ai arraché des mains de Saül,
8 and I give to thee the house of thy lord, and the wives of thy lord, into thy bosom, and I give to thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if little, then I add to thee such and such [things].
et je t'ai donné la maison de ton maître, et ai mis les femmes de ton maître entre tes bras, et t'ai donné la maison d'Israël et de Juda, et comme si c'était trop peu, je t'aurais en sus fait tels dons pareils:
9 'Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten by the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to thee for a wife, and him thou hast slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.
pourquoi, au mépris de la parole de l'Éternel, as-tu fait ce qui est mal à ses yeux? tu as frappé de l'épée Urie, le Héthien, et tu lui as pris sa femme pour en faire la tienne, et lui-même tu l'as assassiné par le glaive des Ammonites.
10 'And now, the sword doth not turn aside from thy house unto the age, because thou hast despised Me, and dost take the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be to thee for a wife;
Aussi désormais le glaive ne cessera jamais de sévir dans ta maison, parce que tu m'as méprisé et que tu as pris la femme d'Urie, le Héthien, pour en faire ta femme.
11 thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am raising up against thee evil, out of thy house, and have taken thy wives before thine eyes, and given to thy neighbour, and he hath lain with thy wives before the eyes of this sun;
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Voici, je vais faire surgir les calamités contre toi de ta propre maison, et je t'enlèverai tes femmes sous tes yeux mêmes, et je les donnerai à un autre, afin qu'il habite avec tes femmes à la vue de ce soleil.
12 for thou hast done [it] in secret, and I do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'
Si tu as agi en cachette, moi j'exécuterai cette menace à la face de tout Israël et à la face du soleil.
13 And David saith unto Nathan, 'I have sinned against Jehovah.' And Nathan saith unto David, 'Also — Jehovah hath caused thy sin to pass away; thou dost not die;
Alors David dit à Nathan: J'ai péché contre l'Éternel! Et Nathan dit à David: Néanmoins l'Éternel a pardonné ton péché: tu ne mourras pas;
14 only, because thou hast caused the enemies of Jehovah greatly to despise by this thing, also the son who is born to thee doth surely die.'
seulement, comme par cet acte tu as provoqué les calomnies des ennemis de l'Éternel, le fils qui t'est né, doit mourir.
15 And Nathan goeth unto his house, and Jehovah smiteth the lad, whom the wife of Uriah hath born to David, and it is incurable;
Là-dessus Nathan s'en alla dans sa maison. Et l'Éternel frappa l'enfant que la femme d'Urie avait enfanté à David, et qui fut dans un état désespéré.
16 and David seeketh God for the youth, and David keepeth a fast, and hath gone in and lodged, and lain on the earth.
Et David chercha Dieu pour cet enfant, et David jeûna et se renferma et passa la nuit couché sur la terre.
17 And the elders of his house rise against him, to raise him up from the earth, and he hath not been willing, nor hath he eaten with them bread;
Et les Anciens de sa maison firent une tentative auprès de lui pour qu'il se relevât de terre; mais il ne voulut pas et il ne prit aucun aliment avec eux.
18 and it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the lad dieth, and the servants of David fear to declare to him that the lad is dead, for they said, 'Lo, in the lad being alive we spake unto him, and he did not hearken to our voice; and how do we say unto him, The lad is dead? — then he hath done evil.'
Et le septième jour l'enfant vint à mourir, et les serviteurs de David redoutaient de lui annoncer la mort de l'enfant, car ils disaient: Voici, lorsque l'enfant était encore en vie, nous lui parlions et il n'entendait pas notre voix: comment lui dirions-nous: L'enfant est mort!? il fera bien pis.
19 And David seeth that his servants are whispering, and David understandeth that the lad is dead, and David saith unto his servants, 'Is the lad dead?' and they say, 'Dead.'
Et David ayant remarqué les chuchotements de ses serviteurs, comprit que l'enfant était mort, et David dit à ses serviteurs: L'enfant est-il mort? Et ils dirent: Il est mort.
20 And David riseth from the earth, and doth bathe and anoint [himself], and changeth his raiment, and cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and boweth himself, and cometh unto his house, and asketh and they place for him bread, and he eateth.
Alors David se leva de terre et se baigna et s'oignit et changea d'habits, et entra dans la maison de l'Éternel, et adora, puis revint dans sa maison, et sur sa demande on lui servit des aliments et il mangea.
21 And his servants say unto him, 'What [is] this thing thou hast done? because of the living lad thou hast fasted and dost weep, and when the lad is dead thou hast risen and dost eat bread.'
Et ses serviteurs lui dirent: Quelle est donc ta manière d'agir? Tant que vivait l'enfant, tu jeûnais et pleurais, et aussitôt après la mort de l'enfant tu te lèves et prends de la nourriture!
22 And he saith, 'While the lad is alive I have fasted, and weep, for I said, Who knoweth? — Jehovah doth pity me, and the lad hath lived;
Et il dit: Tant que l'enfant était en vie, je jeûnais et pleurais, car je me disais: Qui sait? peut-être l'Éternel me fera grâce, et l'enfant sera conservé.
23 and now, he hath died, why [is] this — I fast? am I able to bring him back again? I am going unto him, and he doth not turn back unto me.'
Mais à présent, il est mort: pourquoi jeûnerais-je? puis-je le faire revenir? C'est moi qui vais à lui, mais lui ne reviendra pas à moi.
24 And David comforteth Bath-Sheba his wife, and goeth in unto her, and lieth with her, and she beareth a son, and he calleth his name Solomon; and Jehovah hath loved him,
Et David consola Bathséba, sa femme, et il entra chez elle et habita avec elle et elle lui enfanta un fils qu'il appela du nom de Salomon. Et l'Éternel l'aima.
25 and sendeth by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and calleth his name Jedidiah, because of Jehovah.
Et il le remit entre les mains du prophète Nathan qui l'appelait Iedid-Iah (aimé de l'Éternel) en vue de l'Éternel.
26 And Joab fighteth against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captureth the royal city,
Et Joab assiégeait Rabba des Ammonites, et comme il était près de prendre la ville royale,
27 and Joab sendeth messengers unto David, and saith, 'I have fought against Rabbah — also I have captured the city of waters;
il dépêcha des courriers à David pour lui dire: J'ai donné l'assaut à Rabba, et, qui plus est, je suis maître du quartier des eaux;
28 and now, gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city, and my name hath been called upon it.'
maintenant réunis le reste des troupes et viens attaquer la ville et la prendre, afin que ce ne soit pas moi qui la prenne et dont le nom soit nommé à son occasion.
29 And David gathereth all the people, and goeth to Rabbah, and fighteth against it, and captureth it;
Alors David rassembla toutes les troupes et il marcha sur Rabba et il l'assaillit et la prit.
30 and he taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and its weight [is] a talent of gold, and precious stones, and it is on the head of David; and the spoil of the city he hath brought out, very much;
Et il enleva la couronne de son Roi de dessus sa tête (or elle pesait un talent d'or et était garnie de pierreries) et il la mit sur sa propre tête et il tira de la ville un butin immense.
31 and the people who [are] in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes of iron, and hath caused them to pass over into the brick-kiln; and so he doth to all the cities of the Bene-Ammon; and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.
Quant à sa population, il la fit sortir et subir les scies et les traîneaux ferrés et les haches de fer, et passer par leurs propres fournaises. Et ainsi traita-t-il toutes les villes des Ammonites. Ensuite David et tout le peuple retournèrent à Jérusalem.
