2 Kings 10
1 And Ahab hath seventy sons in Samaria, and Jehu writeth letters, and sendeth to Samaria, unto the heads of Jezreel, the elders, and unto the supporters of Ahab, saying,
Cependant il y avait d'Achab à Samarie soixante-dix fils. Et Jéhu écrivit des lettres et les envoya à Samarie aux chefs de Jizréel, les Anciens, et à ceux par qui Achab faisait élever ses enfants, et elles disaient:
2 'And now, at the coming in of this letter unto you, and with you [are] sons of your lord, and with you [are] the chariots and the horses, and a fenced city, and the armour,
… « lors donc que cette lettre vous parviendra, puisque vous avez à votre portée les fils de votre Souverain et les chars et les chevaux et une place forte et des armes,
3 and ye have seen the best and the uprightest of the sons of your lord, and have set [him] on the throne of his father, and fight ye for the house of your lord.'
choisissez le plus probe et le plus apte des enfants de votre Souverain et placez-le sur le trône de son père, et combattez pour la maison de votre Souverain! »
4 And they fear very greatly, and say, 'Lo, the two kings have not stood before him, and how do we stand — we?'
Mais ils eurent une très grande peur et dirent: Voici, les deux rois ne lui ont pas tenu tête, comment donc lui tiendrions-nous tête, nous?
5 And he who [is] over the house, and he who [is] over the city, and the elders, and the supporters, send unto Jehu, saying, 'Thy servants we [are], and all that thou sayest unto us we do; we do not make any one king — that which [is] good in thine eyes do.'
Et ils déléguèrent le préfet du palais et le préfet de la ville et les Anciens et les éducateurs vers Jéhu pour dire: Nous sommes tes serviteurs et nous ferons tout ce que tu nous diras; nous ne ferons pas de roi; agis comme il te semblera bon.
6 And he writeth unto them a letter a second time, saying, 'If ye [are] for me, and to my voice are hearkening, take the heads of the men — the sons of your lord, and come unto me about this time to-morrow, to Jezreel;' and the sons of the king [are] seventy men, with the great ones of the city those bringing them up.
Alors il leur écrivit une seconde lettre ainsi conçue: « Si vous êtes à moi et obéissez à ma voix, prenez les têtes des hommes, fils de votre Souverain, et venez auprès de moi demain à pareille heure à Jizréel. » (Or les fils du roi, soixante-dix hommes, étaient chez les Grands de la ville qui les avaient élevés.)
7 And it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the letter unto them, that they take the sons of the king, and slaughter seventy men, and put their heads in baskets, and send unto him to Jezreel,
Et à la réception de cette lettre ils prirent les fils du roi et les égorgèrent au nombre de soixante-dix hommes, et ils mirent leurs têtes dans des corbeilles et les lui envoyèrent à Jizréel.
8 and the messenger cometh in, and declareth to him, saying, 'They have brought in the heads of the sons of the king,' and he saith, 'Make them two heaps at the opening of the gate till the morning.'
Puis entra le messager qui fit rapport en ces termes: Ils ont apporté les têtes des fils du roi. Et il dit: Mettez-les en deux tas dans l'avenue de la Porte jusqu'au matin.
9 And it cometh to pass in the morning, that he goeth out, and standeth, and saith unto all the people, 'Righteous are ye; lo, I have conspired against my lord, and slay him — and who smote all these?
Et le matin il sortit et se présenta et dit à tout le peuple: Vous êtes justes; voici, quant à moi, j'ai conspiré contre mon Souverain et l'ai tué; et qui a frappé tous ceux-ci?
10 Know ye now, that nothing doth fall of the word of Jehovah to the earth that Jehovah spake against the house of Ahab, and Jehovah hath done that which He spake by the hand of His servant Elijah.'
Sachez en effet qu'il ne tombe rien a terre de la menace de l'Éternel que l'Éternel a prononcée contre la maison d'Achab; et l'Éternel a exécuté ce qu'il avait dit par l'organe de son serviteur Élie.
11 And Jehu smiteth all those left to the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his acquaintances, and his priests, till he hath not left to him a remnant.
Et Jéhu fit main basse sur tous les survivants de la maison d'Achab à Jizréel, et sur tous ses Grands, et sur tous ses familiers et sur tous ses prêtres, jusqu'à ne pas lui laisser un seul survivant.
12 And he riseth, and cometh in and goeth to Samaria; he [is] at the shepherds' shearing-house in the way,
Et il se leva et partit et gagna Samarie. Jéhu se trouvait à la maison du Rendez-vous des bergers sur la route,
13 and Jehu hath found the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and saith, 'Who [are] ye?' and they say, 'Brethren of Ahaziah we [are], and we go down to salute the sons of the king, and the sons of the mistress.'
lorsqu'il eut la rencontre des frères d'Achazia, roi de Juda, et il dit: Qui êtes-vous? Et ils dirent: Nous sommes les frères d'Achazia, et nous descendons pour saluer les fils du roi et les fils de la reine.
14 And he saith, 'Catch them alive;' and they catch them alive, and slaughter them at the pit of the shearing-house, forty and two men, and he hath not left a man of them.
Et il dit: Saisissez-les tout vifs! Et ils les saisirent tout vifs et les égorgèrent à la citerne de la maison du Rendez-vous, au nombre de quarante-deux hommes; et il n'en laissa survivre aucun.
15 And he goeth thence, and findeth Jehonadab son of Rechab — to meet him, and blesseth him, and saith unto him, 'Is thy heart right, as my heart [is] with thy heart?' and Jehonadab saith, 'It is;' — 'Then it is; give thy hand;' and he giveth his hand, and he causeth him to come up into him into the chariot,
Et étant parti de là il rencontra Jonadab, fils de Rechab, qui venait au-devant de lui, et il le salua et lui dit: Ton cœur est-il sincère, comme mon cœur est sincère pour le tien? Et Jonadab dit: Il l'est. — S'il l'est, donne-moi ta main! — Et il lui donna sa main. Et Jéhu le fit monter à ses côtés sur son char
16 and saith, 'Come with me, and look on my zeal for Jehovah;' and they cause him to ride in his chariot.
et dit: Accompagne-moi et sois témoin de mon zèle pour l'Éternel. Il le fit donc cheminer avec lui sur son char.
17 And he cometh in to Samaria, and smiteth all those left to Ahab in Samaria, till his destroying him, according to the word of Jehovah that He spake unto Elisha.
Et arrivé à Samarie il fit main basse sur tous les survivants à Achab dans Samarie, jusqu'à ce qu'il en eût fini avec Achab, selon la parole de l'Éternel qu'il avait adressée à Élie.
18 And Jehu gathereth the whole of the people, and saith unto them, 'Ahab served Baal a little — Jehu doth serve him much:
Et Jéhu assembla tout le peuple et il leur dit: Achab a un peu servi Baal, Jéhu le servira beaucoup.
19 and now, all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests, call ye unto me; let not a man be lacking, for a great sacrifice I have for Baal; every one who is lacking — he doth not live;' and Jehu hath done [it] in subtilty, in order to destroy the servants of Baal.
Maintenant donc convoquez vers moi tous les prophètes de Baal, et tous ses serviteurs et tous ses prêtres: que nul ne manque! car j'ai à offrir un grand sacrifice à Baal: qui manquera, perdra la vie. Mais Jéhu employait l'artifice pour faire périr les serviteurs de Baal.
20 And Jehu saith, 'Sanctify a restraint for Baal;' and they proclaim [it].
Et Jéhu dit: Consacrez une fête: générale à Baal. Et elle fut proclamée.
21 And Jehu sendeth into all Israel, and all the servants of Baal come in, and there hath not been left a man who hath not come in; and they come in to the house of Baal, and the house of Baal is full — mouth to mouth.
Et Jéhu fit faire le message dans tout Israël, et tous les serviteurs de Baal arrivèrent et il n'en resta pas un qui ne vînt, et ils entrèrent dans le: temple de Baal, et le temple de Baal fut rempli d'un bout à l'autre.
22 And he saith to him who [is] over the wardrobe, 'Bring out clothing to all servants of Baal;' and he bringeth out to them the clothing.
Et il dit à l'intendant du vestiaire: Sors un habillement pour tous les Serviteurs de Baal. Et il sortit pour eux l'habillement.
23 And Jehu goeth in, and Jehonadab son of Rechab, to the house of Baal, and saith to the servants of Baal, 'Search and see, lest there be here with you of the servants of Jehovah — but, the servants of Baal by themselves.'
Alors Jéhu avec Jonadab, fils de Rechab, vint au temple de Baal et. il; dit aux serviteurs de Baal: Cherchez et avisez, à ce qu'il n'y ait pas ici avec vous de serviteurs de l'Éternel, mais des serviteurs de Baal seuls.
24 And they come in to make sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and Jehu hath set for himself in an out-place eighty men, and saith, 'The man who letteth escape [any] of the men whom I am bringing in unto your hand — his soul for his soul.'
Et ils entrèrent pour sacrifier leurs victimes et leurs holocaustes. Cependant Jéhu avait, pour son but, posté à, l'extérieur quatre-vingts hommes et dit: Qui laissera échapper un seul des hommes, que j'ai mis à portée de vos mains, de sa vie payera la vie de l'autre.
25 And it cometh to pass at his finishing to make the burnt-offering, that Jehu saith to the runners, and to the captains, 'Go in, smite them, let none come out;' and they smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the runners and the captains cast [them] out; and they go unto the city, to the house of Baal,
Et lorsque l'on eut achevé d'offrir les holocaustes, Jéhu dit aux coureurs et aux triaires: Entrez, frappez-les, que nul, ne ressorte! Et ils les frappèrent avec le tranchant de l'épée. Et les coureurs et les triaires poussèrent en avant et gagnèrent la cité du temple de Baal,
26 and bring out the standing-pillars of the house of Baal, and burn them,
et ils tirèrent les colonnes hors du temple de Baal et les brûlèrent,
27 and break down the standing-pillar of Baal, and break down the house of Baal, and appoint it for a draught-house unto this day.
et ils renversèrent la colonne de Baal, et renversèrent le temple de Baal et en firent un cloaque: ce qu'il est aujourd'hui.
28 And Jehu destroyeth Baal out of Israel,
C'est ainsi que Jéhu extermina Baal du sein d'Israël.
29 only — the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin, Jehu hath not turned aside from after them — the calves of gold that [are] at Beth-El, and in Dan.
Seulement il ne se départit pas des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebat, où celui-ci avait entraîné Israël, des veaux d'or de Béthel et de Dan.
30 And Jehovah saith unto Jehu, 'Because that thou hast done well, to do that which [is] right in Mine eyes — according to all that [is] in My heart thou hast done to the house of Ahab — the sons of the fourth [generation] do sit for thee on the throne of Israel.'
Et l'Éternel dit à Jéhu: Parce que tu as bien agi en faisant ce qui est droit à mes yeux, et traitant la maison d'Achab, tout à fait comme c'était dans ma volonté, tu auras des fils, de la quatrième génération assis au trône d'Israël.
31 And Jehu hath not taken heed to walk in the law of Jehovah, God of Israel, with all his heart, he hath not turned aside from the sins of Jeroboam, that he caused Israel to sin.
Mais Jéhu ne prit point garde de pratiquer la loi de l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, de tout son cœur, il ne se départit point des péchés de Jéroboam où celui-ci avait entraîné Israël.
32 In those days hath Jehovah begun to cut off [some] in Israel, and Hazael smiteth them in all the border of Israel,
Dans ce temps-là l'Éternel commença à entamer Israël qu'Hazaël battit dans toutes les limites d'Israël
33 from the Jordan, at the sun-rising, the whole land of Gilead, of the Gadite, and the Reubenite, and the Manassahite (from Aroer, that [is] by the brook Arnon), even Gilead and Bashan.
depuis le Jourdain au soleil levant, la totalité du pays de Galaad, les Gadites et les Rubénites, et, les Manassites depuis. Aroër située sur la rivière de l'Arnon jusques à Galaad et Basan.
34 And the rest of the matters of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
Le reste des actes de Jéhu et toutes ses entreprises et tous ses exploits sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d'Israël.
35 And Jehu lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in Samaria, and reign doth Jehoahaz his son in his stead.
Et Jéhu reposa à côté de ses pères, et on lui donna là sépulture à Samarie, et Joachaz, son fils, régna en sa place.
36 And the days that Jehu hath reigned over Israel [are] twenty and eight years, in Samaria.
Or la durée du règne de Jéhu sur Israël fut de vingt-huit ans à Samarie.
