2 Corinthians 4
1 Because of this, having this ministration, according as we did receive kindness, we do not faint,
Voilà pourquoi, chargés par la miséricorde de Dieu d'un pareil ministère, nous ne faiblissons pas;
2 but did renounce for ourselves the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor deceitfully using the word of God, but by the manifestation of the truth recommending ourselves unto every conscience of men, before God;
au contraire nous repoussons bien loin tout procédé secret et honteux, nous ne recourons pas à la ruse, nous ne falsifions pas la parole de Dieu, mais nous publions ouvertement la vérité, et ainsi nous nous recommandons nous-mêmes à toute conscience d'homme, et cela à la face de Dieu.
3 and if also our good news is vailed, in those perishing it is vailed,
(S'il reste encore un voile sur notre Évangile, c'est pour ceux qui vont périr que ce voile existe,
4 in whom the god of this age did blind the minds of the unbelieving, that there doth not shine forth to them the enlightening of the good news of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God; (aiōn g165)
pour les incrédules dont le dieu de ce monde a aveuglé les pensées, afin qu'ils ne soient point illuminés des splendeurs du glorieux Évangile du Christ, qui est l'image de Dieu.) (aiōn g165)
5 for not ourselves do we preach, but Christ Jesus — Lord, and ourselves your servants because of Jesus;
Car nous ne nous prêchons pas nous-mêmes, mais Jésus-Christ le Seigneur; et nous-mêmes nous sommes vos serviteurs à cause de Jésus.
6 because [it is] God who said, Out of darkness light [is] to shine, who did shine in our hearts, for the enlightening of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
En effet, le Dieu qui a dit: «Que des ténèbres jaillisse la lumière», a fait aussi jaillir la lumière dans nos coeurs, pour que nous fassions resplendir la connaissance de la gloire de Dieu sur la face de Christ.
7 And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us;
Nous portons ce trésor dans des vases d'argile pour prouver que la puissance débordante de sa vertu vient de Dieu et non pas de nous;
8 on every side being in tribulation, but not straitened; perplexed, but not in despair;
nous sommes toujours surchargés, jamais écrasés; tourmentés, jamais désespérés;
9 persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
persécutés, jamais vaincus; jetés à terre, jamais morts;
10 at all times the dying of the Lord Jesus bearing about in the body, that the life also of Jesus in our body may be manifested,
nous portons partout dans notre corps le martyre de Jésus, pour que, dans notre corps, se montre aussi sa vie.
11 for always are we who are living delivered up to death because of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our dying flesh,
Nous sommes toujours livrés vivants à la mort à cause de Jésus pour que, dans la mort de notre chair, se montre aussi sa vie.
12 so that, the death indeed in us doth work, and the life in you.
Ainsi la mort exerce son pouvoir sur nous et la vie agit en vous.
13 And having the same spirit of the faith, according to that which hath been written, 'I believed, therefore I did speak;' we also do believe, therefore also do we speak;
Nous avons le même Esprit de foi que dans ce passage de l'Écriture: «J'ai cru, c'est pourquoi j'ai parlé.» Nous croyons, nous aussi, voilà pourquoi nous parlons,
14 knowing that He who did raise up the Lord Jesus, us also through Jesus shall raise up, and shall present with you,
sachant que celui qui a ressuscité le Seigneur Jésus nous ressuscitera avec Jésus et nous fera paraître avec vous devant lui.
15 for the all things [are] because of you, that the grace having been multiplied, because of the thanksgiving of the more, may abound to the glory of God;
Tout cela à cause de vous et afin que la grâce de plus en plus abondante multiplie les actions de grâces d'un plus grand nombre d'entre vous pour la gloire de Dieu.
16 wherefore, we faint not, but if also our outward man doth decay, yet the inward is renewed day by day;
Aussi nous ne faiblissons pas; au contraire, si notre être extérieur tombe en ruines, notre être intérieur se renouvelle de jour en jour;
17 for the momentary light matter of our tribulation, more and more exceedingly an age-during weight of glory doth work out for us — (aiōnios g166)
car un moment de légères afflictions nous vaut une somme immense, incalculable de gloire éternelle, (aiōnios g166)
18 we not looking to the things seen, but to the things not seen; for the things seen [are] temporary, but the things not seen [are] age-during. (aiōnios g166)
à nous qui ne regardons pas aux choses visibles, mais aux invisibles, parce que les choses visibles ne durent qu'un temps, les invisibles sont éternelles. (aiōnios g166)
