2 Chronicles 1

1 And strengthen himself doth Solomon son of David over his kingdom, and Jehovah his God [is] with him, and maketh him exceedingly great.

Salomon, fils de David, fut donc affermi dans la royauté, et le Seigneur son Dieu était avec lui; et le Seigneur l’éleva très haut.

2 And Solomon saith to all Israel, to heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, and to judges, and to every honourable one of all Israel, heads of the fathers,

Et Salomon donna des ordres à tout Israël, aux tribuns, aux centurions, aux autres chefs, aux magistrats et aux princes des familles;

3 and they go — Solomon, and all the assembly with him — to the high place that [is] in Gibeon, for there hath been God's tent of meeting, that Moses, servant of Jehovah, made in the wilderness,

Et il s’en alla avec toute la multitude au haut lieu de Gabaon, où était le tabernacle de l’alliance de Dieu, que fit Moïse, serviteur de Dieu, dans le désert.

4 but the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-Jearim, when David prepared for it, for he stretched out for it a tent in Jerusalem;

Quant à l’arche de Dieu, David l’avait amenée de Cariathiarim au lieu qu’il lui avait préparé, et où il lui avait dressé un tabernacle, c’est-à-dire à Jérusalem.

5 and the altar of brass that Bezaleel son of Uri, son of Hur made, he put before the tabernacle of Jehovah; and Solomon and the assembly seek to it.

Mais l’autel d’airain qu’avait fait Béséléel fils d’Uri, fils de Hur, était resté là devant le tabernacle du Seigneur; et Salomon alla le chercher, lui et toute l’assemblée.

6 And Solomon goeth up thither, on the altar of brass, before Jehovah, that [is] at the tent of meeting, and causeth to ascend upon it a thousand burnt-offerings.

Et Salomon monta sur l’autel d’airain devant le tabernacle de l’alliance du Seigneur, et il y offrit mille hosties.

7 In that night hath God appeared to Solomon, and saith to him, 'Ask — what do I give to thee?'

Or voilà qu’en cette nuit même Dieu lui apparut, disant: Demande ce que tu veux que je te donne.

8 And Solomon saith to God, 'Thou hast done with David my father great kindness, and hast caused me to reign in his stead.

Alors Salomon dit à Dieu: C’est vous qui avez fait une grande miséricorde à David, mon père, et qui m’avez établi roi à sa place.

9 Now, O Jehovah God, is Thy word with David my father stedfast, for Thou hast caused me to reign over a people numerous as the dust of the earth;

Maintenant donc, Seigneur Dieu, qu’elle s’accomplisse, la promesse que vous avez faite à David, mon père: car c’est vous qui m’avez établi roi sur votre peuple, qui est aussi innombrable que la poussière de la terre.

10 now, wisdom and knowledge give to me, and I go out before this people, and I come in, for who doth judge this Thy great people?'

Donnez-moi de la sagesse et de l’intelligence, enfin que j’entre et sorte devant votre peuple; car qui peut juger dignement ce peuple qui est vôtre, et qui est si grand?

11 And God saith to Solomon, 'Because that this hath been with thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, and honour, and the life of those hating thee, and also many days hast not asked, and dost ask for thyself wisdom and knowledge, so that thou dost judge My people over which I have caused thee to reign —

Alors Dieu répondit à Salomon: Parce que cela a plu de préférence à ton cœur, et que tu ne m’as point demandé des richesses, ni des biens, ni de la gloire, ni les âmes de ceux qui te haïssent, ni des jours de vie très nombreux; mais que tu as demandé de la sagesse et de la science, afin que tu puisses juger mon peuple sur lequel je t’ai établi roi:

12 the wisdom and the knowledge is given to thee, and riches and wealth and honour I give to thee, that there hath not been so to the kings who [are] before thee, and after thee it is not so.'

La sagesse et la science te sont données; et quant à des richesses, à des biens, à de la gloire, je t’en donnerai de telle sorte, que nul parmi les rois, ni avant toi, ni après toi, n’aura été semblable à toi.

13 And Solomon cometh in [from] the high place that [is] in Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and reigneth over Israel,

Salomon vint donc du haut lieu de Gabaon à Jérusalem, devant le tabernacle d’alliance, et il régna sur Israël.

14 and Solomon gathereth chariots and horsemen, and he hath a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, and he placeth them in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.

Et il rassembla des chars et des cavaliers; on lui disposa mille quatre cents chariots et douze mille cavaliers, et il les fit mettre dans les villes des quadriges, et près du roi à Jérusalem.

15 And the king maketh the silver and the gold in Jerusalem as stones, and the cedars he made as sycamores that [are] in the low country, for abundance.

Et le roi rendit l’or et l’argent communs comme les pierres dans Jérusalem, et les cèdres comme les sycomores qui croissent dans les plaines en grande quantité.

16 And the source of the horses that [are] to Solomon [is] from Egypt and from Keva; merchants of the king from Keva take at a price,

Mais les chevaux lui étaient amenés d’Égypte et de Coa par les marchands du roi, qui y allaient et les achetaient,

17 and they come up, and bring out from Egypt a chariot for six hundred silverlings, and a horse for fifty and a hundred, and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Aram — by their hand they bring out.

Un attelage de quatre chevaux, six cents sicles d’argent, et un cheval, cent cinquante; et c’est ainsi que dans tous les royaumes des Héthéens, et par tous les rois de Syrie, la vente se pratiquait.
