1 Samuel 2
1 And Hannah prayeth, and saith: 'My heart hath exulted in Jehovah, My horn hath been high in Jehovah, My mouth hath been large over mine enemies, For I have rejoiced in Thy salvation.
Et Hanna fit une prière et dit: L'Éternel a transporté mon cœur, l'Éternel a relevé mon front; ma bouche s'ouvre contre mes ennemis, car je me réjouis de Ton secours.
2 There is none holy like Jehovah, For there is none save Thee, And there is no rock like our God.
Nul n'est saint comme l'Éternel; car nul n'est sinon Toi, et il n'est point de rocher comme notre Dieu.
3 Ye multiply not — ye speak haughtily — The old saying goeth out from your mouth, For a God of knowledge [is] Jehovah, And by Him actions are weighed.
Ne multipliez pas les superbes propos, et que votre bouche n'exprime pas l'arrogance! Car l'Éternel est un Dieu qui connaît, et par Lui les actions sont pesées.
4 Bows of the mighty are broken, And the stumbling have girded on strength.
Les arcs des héros sont brisés, et ceux qui chancellent se ceignent de vigueur;
5 The satiated for bread hired themselves, And the hungry have ceased. While the barren hath borne seven, And she abounding with sons hath languished.
ceux qui se rassasiaient se louent pour du pain et les affamés prennent du relâche; la stérile même sept fois enfante, et celle qui a nombre de fils, est languissante.
6 Jehovah putteth to death, and keepeth alive, He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up. (Sheol h7585)
L'Éternel donne et la mort et la vie, précipite aux Enfers et en ramène; (Sheol h7585)
7 Jehovah dispossesseth, and He maketh rich, He maketh low, yea, He maketh high.
rend pauvre et rend riche, Il abaisse et Il élève,
8 He raiseth from the dust the poor, From a dunghill He lifteth up the needy, To cause [them] to sit with nobles, Yea, a throne of honour He doth cause them to inherit, For to Jehovah [are] the fixtures of earth, And He setteth on them the habitable world.
de la poudre Il relève les petits, de la fange Il retire l'indigent, pour le faire asseoir à côté des princes, Il lui adjuge un siège d'honneur. Car à l'Éternel sont les colonnes de la terre, sur elles il fait reposer le monde.
9 The feet of His saints He keepeth, And the wicked in darkness are silent, For not by power doth man become mighty.
L'Éternel a sous sa garde les pas de ses fidèles, mais les impies périssent dans les ténèbres; car ce n'est pas la force qui fait triompher l'homme.
10 Jehovah — broken down are His adversaries, Against them in the heavens He thundereth: Jehovah judgeth the ends of earth, And giveth strength to His king, And exalteth the horn of His anointed.'
L'Éternel! ses ennemis sont terrifiés, sur eux du ciel l'Éternel tonne. Il juge les extrémités de la terre, et Il donne force à son Roi, et Il tient élevé le front de son Oint.
11 And Elkanah goeth to Ramath, unto his house, and the youth hath been serving Jehovah, [in] the presence of Eli the priest;
Et Elkana s'en alla à Rama dans sa maison, tandis que l'enfant resta au service de l'Éternel sous les yeux du Prêtre Eli.
12 and the sons of Eli [are] sons of worthlessness, they have not known Jehovah.
Or les fils d'Eli étaient de mauvais hommes, ils ne connaissaient pas l'Éternel.
13 And the custom of the priests with the people [is]: any man sacrificing a sacrifice — then hath the servant of the priest come in when the flesh is boiling, and the hook of three teeth in his hand,
Et voici quelle était la manière de faire des Prêtres à l'égard du peuple: toutes les fois que quelqu'un offrait un sacrifice, le valet du Prêtre arrivait au moment de la cuisson de la viande, une fourchette en trident à la main,
14 and hath struck [it] into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the hook bringeth up doth the priest take for himself; thus they do to all Israel who are coming in, there, in Shiloh.
et il piquait dans la chaudière ou dans la marmite, ou dans la poële, ou dans le pot à bouillir, et le Prêtre en prenait tout ce qu'amenait la fourchette; ainsi procédaient-ils envers tous les Israélites venant là, à Silo.
15 Also before they make perfume with the fat — then hath the priest's servant come in, and said to the man who is sacrificing, 'Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he doth not take of thee flesh boiled, but raw;'
Même avant qu'on fit fumer la graisse le valet du Prêtre arrivait et disait au sacrifiant: Donne pour le Prêtre de la viande à rôtir, car il ne recevra pas de toi de la viande bouillie, mais seulement de la viande fraîche.
16 and the man saith unto him, 'Let them surely make a perfume (as to-day) with the fat, then take to thee as thy soul desireth;' and he hath said to him, 'Surely now thou dost give; and if not — I have taken by strength.'
Et si l'homme lui disait: On va faire fumer la graisse; alors sers-toi au gré de tes désirs! le valet répondait: Nullement! donne sur-le-champ, sinon je prends de force.
17 And the sin of the young men is very great [in] the presence of Jehovah, for the men have despised the offering of Jehovah.
Et le péché de ces jeunes gens fut très grand aux yeux de l'Éternel, parce que ces gens-là méprisaient l'oblation de l'Éternel.
18 And Samuel is ministering [in] the presence of Jehovah, a youth girt [with] an ephod of linen;
Cependant Samuel faisait le service devant l'Éternel, comme servant, et il portait un éphod de lin.
19 and a small upper coat doth his mother make to him, and she hath brought it up to him from time to time, in her coming up with her husband to sacrifice the sacrifice of the time.
Et sa mère lui faisait un petit manteau qu'elle lui apportait chaque année, lorsqu'elle venait avec son mari offrir le sacrifice annuel.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah, and his wife, and said, 'Jehovah doth appoint for thee seed of this woman, for the petition which she asked for Jehovah;' and they have gone to their place.
Et Eli bénit Elkana et sa femme et dit: Que l'Éternel te fasse naître de cette femme une famille en échange du prêt qu'elle a fait à l'Éternel. Et ils regagnèrent leur logis.
21 When Jehovah hath looked after Hannah, then she conceiveth and beareth three sons and two daughters; and the youth Samuel groweth up with Jehovah.
Et quand l'Éternel jeta la vue sur Hanna, elle devint enceinte et elle enfanta encore trois fils et deux filles. Et le jeune Samuel croissait auprès de l'Éternel.
22 And Eli [is] very old, and hath heard all that his sons do to all Israel, and how that they lie with the women who are assembling [at] the opening of the tent of meeting,
Or Eli était fort âgé et il apprit comment ses fils traitaient tous les Israélites, et comment ils couchaient avec les femmes qui étaient de service à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous.
23 and he saith to them, 'Why do ye things like these? for I am hearing of your evil words from all the people — these!
Et il leur parla ainsi: Pourquoi vous conduisez-vous comme on le dit? car de tout ce peuple j'apprends de vous des choses fâcheuses.
24 Nay, my sons; for the report which I am hearing is not good causing the people of Jehovah to transgress. —
Non! mes enfants; les bruits que j'entends ne sont pas favorables: vous fourvoyez le peuple de l'Éternel.
25 If a man sin against a man, then hath God judged him; but if against Jehovah a man sin, who doth pray for him?' and they hearken not to the voice of their father, though Jehovah hath delighted to put them to death.
Qu'un homme pèche contre un homme, on peut prier Dieu pour lui; mais si un homme pèche contre l'Éternel, qui intercédera pour lui? Mais ils n'écoutèrent point la voix de leur père, car l'Éternel avait résolu de les faire mourir.
26 And the youth Samuel is going on and growing up, and [is] good both with Jehovah, and also with men.
Cependant le jeune Samuel continuait de grandir et de plaire et à l'Éternel et aux hommes.
27 And there cometh a man of God unto Eli, and saith unto him, 'Thus said Jehovah, Was I really revealed unto the house of thy father in their being in Egypt, before Pharaoh's house,
Et un homme de Dieu vint trouver Eli et lui dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Me suis-je bien révélé à la maison de ton père lorsqu'ils étaient en Egypte appartenant à la maison de Pharaon,
28 even to choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to Me for a priest, to go up on Mine altar, to make a perfume, to bear an ephod before Me, and I give to the house of thy father all the fire-offerings of the sons of Israel?
et que je l'ai choisie à l'exclusion de toutes les Tribus d'Israël pour exercer de ma part le sacerdoce, pour monter à mon Autel, pour brûler l'encens, pour porter l'éphod devant moi, et que j'ai donné à la maison de ton père tous les sacrifices ignés des enfants d'Israël?
29 Why do ye kick at My sacrifice, and at Mine offering which I commanded [in] My habitation, and dost honour thy sons above Me, to make yourselves fat from the first part of every offering of Israel, of My people?
Pourquoi foulez-vous aux pieds mes sacrifices et mes offrandes que j'ai ordonnées dans ma Résidence? Et tu estimes tes fils plus que moi, pour vous engraisser des prémices de toutes les offrandes d'Israël, mon peuple.
30 'Therefore — the affirmation of Jehovah, God of Israel — I certainly said, Thy house and the house of thy father, do walk up and down before Me to the age; and now — the affirmation of Jehovah — Far be it from Me! for he who is honouring Me, I honour, and those despising Me, are lightly esteemed.
C'est pourquoi l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, le déclare: J'ai dit ta maison et la maison de ton père fonctionneront devant moi éternellement. Mais à présent voici ce que l'Éternel prononce: Je ne veux plus qu'il en soit ainsi. Car j'honore ceux qui m'honorent, mais ceux qui me méprisent, seront avilis.
31 'Lo, days [are] coming, and I have cut off thine arm, and the arm of the house of thy father, that an old man is not in thy house;
Voici le temps arrivera où je trancherai ton bras et le bras de la maison de ton père de sorte qu'il n'y ait plus de vieillard dans ta maison.
32 and thou hast beheld an adversary [in My] habitation, in all that He doth good with Israel, and there is not an old man in thy house all the days.
Et tu verras un rival dans la Résidence, tant que [l'Éternel] sera le bienfaiteur d'Israël; et dans ta maison il n'y aura plus jamais de vieillard.
33 'And the man I cut not off of thine from Mine altar, [is] to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thy soul; and all the increase of thy house do die men;
Mais des alentours de mon autel je ne retrancherai pas l'un des tiens, afin de consumer tes yeux et de faire languir ton âme; et tous les rejetons de ta maison mourront dans l'âge viril.
34 and this [is] to thee the sign that cometh unto thy two sons, unto Hophni and Phinehas — in one day they die both of them;
Et tu auras pour signe ce qui arrivera à tes deux fils, Hophni et Phinées: ils mourront l'un et l'autre le même jour.
35 and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he doth do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he hath walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;
Et je me susciterai, un Prêtre fidèle; il se réglera d'après ce qui est dans mon cœur et dans mon âme, et je lui édifierai une maison durable et il marchera devant mon Oint à perpétuité.
36 and it hath been, every one who is left in thy house doth come in to bow himself to him, for a wage of silver, and a cake of bread, and hath said, Admit me, I pray thee, unto one of the priest's offices, to eat a morsel of bread.'
Et tout ce qui restera de ta maison viendra se prosterner devant lui pour obtenir une menue pièce d'argent et une galette de pain et dira: Attache-moi donc à l'un des sacerdoces pour que j'aie un morceau de pain à manger.
