1 Kings 5
1 And Hiram king of Tyre sendeth his servants unto Solomon, for he heard that they had anointed him for king instead of his father, for Hiram was a lover of David all the days;
Et Hiram, Roi de Tyr, députa ses serviteurs vers Salomon, car il avait appris qu'il avait été oint comme Roi à la place de son père; car Hiram avait toujours été l'ami de David.
2 and Solomon sendeth unto Hiram, saying,
A son tour Salomon députa vers Hiram pour lui dire:
3 'Thou hast known David my father, that he hath not been able to build a house to the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars that have been round about him, till Jehovah's putting them under the soles of his feet.
Tu sais que David, mon père, n'a pu bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Éternel, son Dieu, à cause des ennemis qui l'entouraient, jusqu'à ce que l'Éternel les eût mis sous la plante de ses pieds.
4 'And now, Jehovah my God hath given rest to me round about, there is no adversary nor evil occurrence,
Or maintenant l'Éternel, mon Dieu, m'a mis en paix avec mes alentours; il n'y a ni adversaire, ni conjoncture fâcheuse.
5 and lo, I am saying to build a house to the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son whom I appoint in thy stead on thy throne, he doth build the house for My name.
Aussi, voici, je pense à bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Éternel, mon Dieu, aux termes de la déclaration faite par l'Éternel à David, mon père, quand Il dit: Ton fils que Je placerai sur ton Trône pour te succéder, c'est lui qui élèvera la maison à Mon Nom.
6 'And now, command, and they cut down for me cedars out of Lebanon, and my servants are with thy servants, and the hire of thy servants I give to thee according to all that thou sayest, for thou hast known that there is not among us a man acquainted with cutting wood, like the Sidonians.'
Maintenant donc, donne l'ordre de couper pour moi des cèdres au Liban; et mes serviteurs se joindront à tes serviteurs, et je te remettrai le salaire de tes serviteurs tel que tu l'indiqueras; car tu sais que chez nous personne ne s'entend à la coupe des bois comme les Sidoniens.
7 And it cometh to pass at Hiram's hearing the words of Solomon, that he rejoiceth exceedingly, and saith, 'Blessed [is] Jehovah to-day, who hath given to David a wise son over this numerous people.'
Et lorsque Hiram entendit le message de Salomon, il en eut une grande joie, et il dit: Béni soit l'Éternel en ce jour de ce qu'il a donné à David un fils sage comme chef de ce grand peuple.
8 And Hiram sendeth unto Solomon, saying, I have heard that which thou hast sent unto me, I do all thy desire concerning cedar-wood, and fir-wood,
Et Hiram députa vers Salomon pour lui mander: J'ai entendu ce que tu m'as fait dire; de mon côté, j'accomplirai tout ton désir en fait de bois de cèdre et de bois de cyprès.
9 my servants bring down from Lebanon to the sea, and I make them floats in the sea unto the place that thou sendest unto me, and I have spread them out there; and thou dost take [them] up, and thou dost execute my desire, to give the food of my house.'
Mes serviteurs le descendront du Liban à la mer, et j'en ferai des radeaux qui par mer se porteront au lieu que tu me feras savoir, et là je les disloquerai, et tu les feras prendre. En retour tu accompliras aussi mon désir en fournissant des denrées à ma maison.
10 And Hiram is giving to Solomon cedar-trees, and fir-trees, all his desire,
Et Hiram donna à Salomon des bois de cèdre et des bois de cyprès en tout point selon son désir.
11 and Solomon hath given to Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat, food for his house, and twenty cors of beaten oil; thus doth Solomon give to Hiram year by year.
De son côté Salomon donna à Hiram vingt mille cors de froment pour l'entretien de sa maison, et vingt cors d'huile d'olives concassées; c'est ce que Salomon donna à Hiram annuellement.
12 And Jehovah hath given wisdom to Solomon as He spake to him, and there is peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they make a covenant both of them.
Et l'Éternel dota Salomon de la sagesse selon Sa promesse, et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et ils firent alliance l'un avec l'autre.
13 And king Solomon lifteth up a tribute out of all Israel, and the tribute is thirty thousand men,
Et le Roi Salomon commanda une corvée à tout Israël, et pour la corvée il y eut trente mille hommes.
14 and he sendeth them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month, by changes, a month they are in Lebanon, two months in their own house; and Adoniram [is] over the tribute.
Et il les envoya au Liban, dix mille par mois à tour; ils passaient un mois au Liban, et deux mois chez eux, et Adoniram était préposé sur la corvée.
15 And king Solomon hath seventy thousand bearing burdens, and eighty thousand hewing in the mountain,
Et Salomon avait soixante-dix mille porte-faix et quatre-vingt mille carriers,
16 apart from the heads of the officers of Solomon, who [are] over the work, three thousand and three hundred, those ruling over the people who are working in the business.
non compris les chefs préposés par Salomon sur l'ouvrage, au nombre de trois mille trois cents, piqueurs des gens qui faisaient l'ouvrage.
17 And the king commandeth, and they bring great stones, precious stone, to lay the foundation of the house, hewn stones;
Et le Roi leur ordonna d'extraire de grandes pierres, des pierres massives, pour asseoir les fondements de la Maison sur pierres équarries.
18 and the builders of Solomon, and the builders of Hiram, and the Giblites hew, and prepare the wood and the stones to build the house.
Et les maçons de Salomon et les maçons de Hiram et les Giblites les taillèrent, et préparèrent le bois et les pierres pour la construction de la Maison.
