Numbers 22
1 And thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in the feeldi places of Moab, where Jerico is set ouer Jordan.
Potem synowie Izraela wyruszyli i rozbili obóz na równinach Moabu, z tej strony Jordanu [naprzeciw] Jerycha.
2 Forsothe Balach, the sone of Sephor, siy alle thingis whiche Israel hadde do to Ammorrei,
A Balak, syn Sippora, widział wszystko, co Izrael uczynił Amorytom.
3 and that men of Moab `hadden dred Israel, and miyten not bere the assailing of him.
Wtedy Moab bardzo się zląkł tego ludu, bo był liczny; i zatrwożył się Moab z powodu synów Izraela.
4 And he seide to the grettere men in birthe of Madian, So this puple schal do a wei alle men that dwellen in oure coostis, as an oxe is wont to do awei an eerbe `til to the rootis. Forsothe he, `that is, Balaac, was kyng in that tyme in Moab.
Powiedział więc Moab do starszych Midianu: Teraz [to] mnóstwo pożre wszystko wokół nas, jak wół pożera trawę na polu. A w tym czasie królem Moabu był Balak, syn Sippora.
5 Therfor he sente messangeris to Balaam, the sone of Beor, a fals diuynour, that dwellide on the flood of the lond of the sones of Amon, that thei schulden clepe hym, and schulden seie, Lo! a puple yede out of Egipt, `which puple hilide the face of erthe, and sittith ayens me.
I wysłał posłańców do Balaama, syna Beora, do Petor, które leży nad rzeką ziemi synów jego ludu, aby go wezwać tymi słowy: Oto z Egiptu wyszedł lud, który okrył powierzchnię ziemi i stanął naprzeciwko mnie.
6 Therfor come thou, and curse this puple, which is strongere than Y, if in ony maner Y may smyte and dryue hym out of my lond; for Y knowe, that he is blissid whom thou blissist, and he is cursid whom thou hast cursid.
Dlatego teraz przyjdź, proszę, i przeklnij mi ten lud, bo jest silniejszy ode mnie. Może zdołam go pobić i wypędzić z ziemi, bo wiem, [że] komu błogosławisz, [będzie] błogosławiony, a kogo przeklinasz, będzie przeklęty.
7 The eldere men of Moab and the grettere men in birthe of Madian yeden forth, hauynge in hondis the prijs of fals dyuynyng; and whanne thei hadden come to Balaam, and hadden teld to hym alle the wordis of Balaach, he answeride,
Wtedy starsi Moabu i starsi Midianu wybrali się w drogę, mając w swych rękach zapłatę za wróżbę. Przyszli do Balaama i przekazali mu słowa Balaka.
8 Dwelle ye here to nyyt, and Y schal answere what euer thing the Lord schal seie to me. Sotheli while thei dwelliden at Balaam, God cam, and seide to hym,
On zaś powiedział do nich: Pozostańcie tu na noc, a dam wam odpowiedź, jaką mi oznajmi PAN. I zostali książęta Moabu u Balaama.
9 What wolen these men at thee `to hem silf?
I przyszedł Bóg do Balaama, i powiedział: Cóż to za ludzie [są] u ciebie?
10 Balaam answeride, Balaach, the sone of Sephor, kyng of Moabitis, sente to me, and seide, Lo!
Balaam odpowiedział Bogu: Balak, syn Sippora, król Moabu, wysłał [ich] do mnie, [mówiąc]:
11 a puple which is gon out of Egipt hilide the face of erthe; come thou, and curse hem, if in ony maner Y may fiyte, and dryue hym awey.
Oto z Egiptu wyszedł lud, który okrył powierzchnię ziemi. Przyjdź więc teraz, przeklnij mi go; może zdołam go pokonać i wypędzić.
12 And God seide to Balaam, Nyle thou go with hem, nether curse thou the puple, for it is blessid.
Bóg powiedział do Balaama: Nie idź z nimi i nie przeklnij tego ludu, bo jest on błogosławiony.
13 Which Balaam roos eerli, and seide to the princes, Go ye in to youre lond, for God forbeed me to come with you.
Gdy Balaam wstał rano, powiedział do książąt Balaka: Wracajcie do waszej ziemi, bo PAN nie pozwala mi iść z wami.
14 The princes turneden ayen, and seiden to Balaach, Balaam nolde come with vs.
Wstali więc książęta Moabu, przyszli do Balaka i powiedzieli: Balaam nie chciał iść z nami.
15 Eft Balaach sente many mo and noblere men, than he hadde sent bifore;
Wtedy Balak ponownie wysłał książąt – liczniejszych i dostojniejszych od pierwszych.
16 whiche seiden, whanne thei hadden come to Balaam, Balaach, the sone of Sephor, seith thus, Tarye thou not to come to me, redi to onoure thee;
Przybyli oni do Balaama i powiedzieli mu: Tak mówi Balak, syn Sippora: Nie zwlekaj z przyjściem do mnie;
17 and what euer thing thou wolt, Y schal yyue to thee; come thou, and curse this puple.
Ja bowiem wielce cię uczczę i uczynię wszystko, co mi powiesz, tylko przyjdź, proszę, i przeklnij mi ten lud.
18 Balaam answeride, Thouy Balaach schal yyue to me his howsful of siluer and of gold, Y schal not mowe chaunge the word of my God, that Y speke ethir more ethir lesse.
Balaam odpowiedział sługom Balaka: Choćby Balak dał mi swój dom pełen srebra i złota, nie mógłbym przekroczyć słowa PANA, mego Boga, i uczynić [przeciwko niemu] czegoś małego czy wielkiego.
19 Y biseche, that ye dwelle here also in this nyyt, that Y may wite what the Lord schal answere eft to me.
Lecz zostańcie tu i wy, proszę, na noc, a dowiem się, co PAN jeszcze będzie do mnie mówił.
20 Therfor the Lord cam to Balaam in the nyyt, and seide to hym, If these men comen to clepe thee, rise thou, and go with hem, so oneli that thou do that that Y schal comaunde to thee.
I przyszedł Bóg do Balaama w nocy, i powiedział do niego: Jeśli ci mężczyźni przyjdą, aby cię wezwać, wstań i idź z nimi; uczynisz jednak, co ci rozkażę.
21 Balaam roos eerli, and whanne his femal asse was sadelid, he yede forth with hem.
Wstał więc Balaam rano, osiodłał swoją oślicę i pojechał z książętami Moabu.
22 And God was wrooth. And the `aungel of the Lord stood in the weie ayens Balam, that sat on the femal asse, and hadde twei children with hym.
I zapłonął gniew Boga, że on poszedł; i stanął Anioł PANA na drodze jako przeciwnik. On zaś jechał na swojej oślicy i z nim dwaj jego słudzy.
23 The femal asse siy the aungel stondynge in the weie, with swerd drawun, and `turnede a wei hir silf fro the weie, and yede bi the feeld. And whanne Balaam beet hir, and wolde lede ayen to the path,
A [gdy] oślica zobaczyła Anioła PANA stojącego na drodze z obnażonym mieczem w ręku, zboczyła z drogi i poszła w pole. Balaam zaś bił oślicę, aby ją zawrócić na drogę.
24 the aungel stood in the streitnessis of twei wallis, with whiche the vyneris weren cumpassid.
Wtedy Anioł PANA stanął na ścieżce między winnicami, a płot był z jednej i z drugiej strony.
25 And the femal asse siy the aungel, and ioynede hir silf to the wal, and hurtlide the foot of the sittere; and he beet eft `the asse.
A gdy oślica zobaczyła Anioła PANA, przyparła do muru i przygniotła do niego nogę Balaama; a on znowu ją bił.
26 And neuer the lesse the aungel yede to the streit place, where me `myyte not go out of the weie, nether to the riyt side nether to the left side, and stood ayens hym.
Potem Anioł PANA poszedł dalej i stanął w ciasnym miejscu, gdzie nie można go było wyminąć ani z prawej, ani z lewej [strony];
27 And whanne the femal asse siy the aungel stondynge, sche felde doun vndir the feet of the sittere, which was wrooth ful greetli, and beet hir sidis with a staaf.
A gdy oślica zobaczyła Anioła PANA, padła pod Balaamem. Wtedy Balaam bardzo się rozgniewał i bił oślicę kijem.
28 And the Lord openyde the `mouth of the femal asse, and sche spak, What have Y doon to thee? whi smytist thou me, lo! now the thridde tyme?
Wtedy PAN otworzył usta tej oślicy, a ona powiedziała do Balaama: Cóż ci uczyniłam, że już trzy razy mnie zbiłeś?
29 Balaam answeride, For thou hast disserued, and hast scornyd me; Y wolde that Y hadde a swerd to sle thee.
Balaam odpowiedział oślicy: Ponieważ drwisz ze mnie. Gdybym miał miecz w ręku, teraz bym cię zabił.
30 And the femal asse seide, Whether Y am not thi beeste on which thou were wont to sitte euere til in to this present dai? seie thou, what lijk thing Y dide euere to thee? And he seide, Neuere.
Oślica powiedziała do Balaama: Czy nie jestem twoją oślicą, na której jeździsz, odkąd mnie dostałeś aż do dziś? Czy miałam zwyczaj tak tobie czynić? A on odpowiedział: Nie.
31 Anoon the Lord openyde `the iyen of Balaam, and he siy the aungel stondynge in the weie, holdynge a drawun swerd in the hoond; and Balaam worschipide hym lowli in to erthe.
Wówczas PAN otworzył oczy Balaama i zobaczył Anioła PANA stojącego na drodze z obnażonym mieczem w ręku; i pochylił się, i upadł na twarz.
32 To whom the aungel seide, Whi `betist thou thi femal asse `the thridde tyme? Y cam to be aduersarie to thee, for thi weie is weiward, and contrarye to me;
A Anioł PANA powiedział do niego: Dlaczego zbiłeś swoją oślicę trzy razy? Oto wyszedłem, by się tobie sprzeciwić, bo twoja droga jest przewrotna przede mną;
33 and if the femal asse hadde not bowid a wey fro the weie, and youe place to ayenstondere, Y hadde slayn thee, and sche schulde lyue.
A oślica widziała mnie i ustępowała przede mną trzy razy; gdyby nie ustąpiła przede mną, już bym cię teraz zabił, a ją pozostawił przy życiu.
34 Balaam seide, Y synnede, not witynge that thou stodist ayens me; and now, if it displesith thee that Y go, Y schal turne ayen.
Balaam powiedział więc do Anioła PANA: Zgrzeszyłem, bo nie wiedziałem, że stanąłeś naprzeciwko mnie na drodze; dlatego teraz, jeśli to ci się nie podoba, zawrócę.
35 The aungel seide, Go thou with these men, but be war that thou speke not other thing than Y schal comaunde to thee. Therfor Balaam yede with the princes.
Lecz Anioł PANA powiedział do Balaama: Jedź z [tymi] ludźmi, ale będziesz mówił tylko to, co tobie powiem. I poszedł Balaam z książętami Balaka.
36 And whanne Balaach hadde herde this, he yede out in to the comyng of hym, in the citee of Moabitis, whiche is set in the laste coostis of Arnon.
A [gdy] Balak usłyszał, że Balaam nadchodzi, wyszedł mu naprzeciw, do pewnego miasta Moabu, które leżało na granicy Arnonu, na końcu granicy.
37 And he seide to Balaam, Y sente messangeris to clepe thee; whi camest thou not anoon to me? whethir for Y may not yelde meede to thi comyng?
I Balak powiedział do Balaama: Czyż nie posłałem do ciebie pilnie, aby cię wezwać? Dlaczego nie przyszedłeś do mnie? Czyż nie potrafię cię uczcić?
38 To whom Balaam answeride, Lo! Y am present, whethir Y schal mow speke other thing than that, that God schal putte in my mouth?
Balaam odpowiedział Balakowi: Oto przybyłem do ciebie. Czy mogę cokolwiek powiedzieć? Będę mówił słowo, które Bóg włoży w moje usta.
39 Therfor thei yeden forth to gidere, and camen in to a citee, which was in the laste coost of `his rewme.
Poszedł więc Balaam z Balakiem i przyszli do Kiriat-Chusot.
40 And whanne Balaach hadde slayn scheep and oxun, he sente yiftis to Balaam and the princes that weren with hym.
Balak złożył w ofierze woły i owce i posłał do Balaama oraz do książąt, którzy z nim [byli].
41 Forsothe whanne the morewtid was maad, Balaach ledde Balaam to the hiye placis of Baal, and he bihelde the laste part of the puple, `that is, al the oost til to the laste part.
A nazajutrz Balak zabrał Balaama i zaprowadził go na wyżyny Baala, skąd mógł widzieć kraniec [obozu] ludu.
