Numbers 22
1 And thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in the feeldi places of Moab, where Jerico is set ouer Jordan.
Dann zogen die Israeliten weiter und lagerten in den Steppen Moabs jenseits des Jordans von Jericho.
2 Forsothe Balach, the sone of Sephor, siy alle thingis whiche Israel hadde do to Ammorrei,
Balak, Sippors Sohn, aber sah alles, was Israel den Amoritern getan hatte.
3 and that men of Moab `hadden dred Israel, and miyten not bere the assailing of him.
Da geriet Moab in große Furcht vor dem Volke, weil es so zahlreich war. Und Moab graute es vor den Söhnen Israels.
4 And he seide to the grettere men in birthe of Madian, So this puple schal do a wei alle men that dwellen in oure coostis, as an oxe is wont to do awei an eerbe `til to the rootis. Forsothe he, `that is, Balaac, was kyng in that tyme in Moab.
Da sprach Moab zu den Ältesten Midians: "Jetzt wird die Gemeinde alles um uns abfressen, wie der Stier das Grün des Feldes abfrißt." Zu jener Zeit war Balak, Sippors Sohn, König über Moab.
5 Therfor he sente messangeris to Balaam, the sone of Beor, a fals diuynour, that dwellide on the flood of the lond of the sones of Amon, that thei schulden clepe hym, and schulden seie, Lo! a puple yede out of Egipt, `which puple hilide the face of erthe, and sittith ayens me.
Da sandte er Boten an Beors Sohn Bileam nach Petor, das am Strome liegt, ihn in das Land seines Volkes zu rufen. Er ließ ihm sagen: "Da ist ein Volk aus Ägypten gezogen. Es deckt des Landes Fläche. Mir gegenüber sitzt es da.
6 Therfor come thou, and curse this puple, which is strongere than Y, if in ony maner Y may smyte and dryue hym out of my lond; for Y knowe, that he is blissid whom thou blissist, and he is cursid whom thou hast cursid.
Nun geh her! Verfluche mir dieses Volk! Denn es ist mächtiger als ich. Vielleicht kann ich es; wir schlagen es, und ich vertreibe es aus dem Lande. Ich weiß ja. Gesegnet ist, wen du segnest, und verflucht, wen du verfluchst."
7 The eldere men of Moab and the grettere men in birthe of Madian yeden forth, hauynge in hondis the prijs of fals dyuynyng; and whanne thei hadden come to Balaam, and hadden teld to hym alle the wordis of Balaach, he answeride,
Da gingen die Ältesten Moabs und die Ältesten Midians hin, Meister der Wahrsagekunst. Sie kamen zu Bileam und kündeten ihm Balaks Worte.
8 Dwelle ye here to nyyt, and Y schal answere what euer thing the Lord schal seie to me. Sotheli while thei dwelliden at Balaam, God cam, and seide to hym,
Da sprach er zu ihnen. "Nächtiget hier die Nacht! Dann gebe ich euch Bescheid, wie der Herr zu mir reden wird." So blieben Moabs Häuptlinge bei Bileam.
9 What wolen these men at thee `to hem silf?
Gott aber kam zu Bileam und sprach: "Was sind dir diese Männer?"
10 Balaam answeride, Balaach, the sone of Sephor, kyng of Moabitis, sente to me, and seide, Lo!
Da sprach Bileam zu Gott: "Der Moabkönig Balak, Sippors Sohn, schickt zu mir:
11 a puple which is gon out of Egipt hilide the face of erthe; come thou, and curse hem, if in ony maner Y may fiyte, and dryue hym awey.
'Das Volk, das aus Ägypten gezogen, deckt des Landes Fläche. Nun geh her! Verwünsche es mir! Vielleicht kann ich es bekämpfen und vertreiben.'"
12 And God seide to Balaam, Nyle thou go with hem, nether curse thou the puple, for it is blessid.
Da sprach Gott zu Bileam: "Du sollst nicht mit ihnen gehen! Du sollst das Volk nicht verfluchen! Denn für den Segen ist es bestimmt."
13 Which Balaam roos eerli, and seide to the princes, Go ye in to youre lond, for God forbeed me to come with you.
Da machte sich Bileam am anderen Morgen auf und sprach zu Balaks Häuptlingen: "Geht in euer Land! Der Herr verweigert mir die Erlaubnis, mit euch zu gehen."
14 The princes turneden ayen, and seiden to Balaach, Balaam nolde come with vs.
Da machten sich Moabs Häuptlinge auf, kamen zu Balak und sprachen: "Bileam weigert sich, mit uns zu ziehen."
15 Eft Balaach sente many mo and noblere men, than he hadde sent bifore;
Da sandte Balak nochmals Häuptlinge, zahlreichere und angesehenere als jene.
16 whiche seiden, whanne thei hadden come to Balaam, Balaach, the sone of Sephor, seith thus, Tarye thou not to come to me, redi to onoure thee;
Sie kamen zu Bileam und sprachen zu ihm: "So spricht Balak, Sippors Sohn: 'Laß dich nicht abhalten, zu mir zu ziehen!
17 and what euer thing thou wolt, Y schal yyue to thee; come thou, and curse this puple.
Denn ich belohne dich auf das reichlichste und tue alles, was du mir sagst. So geh her und verwünsche mir dies Volk!'"
18 Balaam answeride, Thouy Balaach schal yyue to me his howsful of siluer and of gold, Y schal not mowe chaunge the word of my God, that Y speke ethir more ethir lesse.
Da hob Bileam an und sprach zu Balaks Dienern: "Gäbe Balak mir seines Hauses Fülle an Gold und Silber, so könnte ich doch nicht dem Befehle des Herrn, meines Gottes, zuwiderhandeln, weder im Kleinen noch im Großen.
19 Y biseche, that ye dwelle here also in this nyyt, that Y may wite what the Lord schal answere eft to me.
Nun bleibt auch heute Nacht noch hier, daß ich erfahre, was der Herr mir weiter sagt!"
20 Therfor the Lord cam to Balaam in the nyyt, and seide to hym, If these men comen to clepe thee, rise thou, and go with hem, so oneli that thou do that that Y schal comaunde to thee.
Und Gott kam in der Nacht zu Bileam und sprach zu ihm: "Sind diese Männer gekommen, dich zu rufen, so mache dich auf und geh mit ihnen! Doch tu nur, was ich dich heiße!"
21 Balaam roos eerli, and whanne his femal asse was sadelid, he yede forth with hem.
Da machte sich Bileam am anderen Morgen auf, sattelte seinen Esel und zog mit Moabs Häuptlingen.
22 And God was wrooth. And the `aungel of the Lord stood in the weie ayens Balam, that sat on the femal asse, and hadde twei children with hym.
Aber Gottes Zorn entbrannte, daß er ging, und der Engel des Herrn trat ihm hemmend in den Weg. Er aber ritt auf seiner Eselin, und seine beiden Diener waren bei ihm.
23 The femal asse siy the aungel stondynge in the weie, with swerd drawun, and `turnede a wei hir silf fro the weie, and yede bi the feeld. And whanne Balaam beet hir, and wolde lede ayen to the path,
Da sah die Eselin den Engel des Herrn auf dem Wege stehen, sein Schwert gezückt in seiner Hand. Und die Eselin bog vom Wege und ging in das Feld. Bileam aber schlug die Eselin, um sie wieder auf den Weg zu bringen.
24 the aungel stood in the streitnessis of twei wallis, with whiche the vyneris weren cumpassid.
Da trat der Engel des Herrn in den Hohlweg der Weinberge, wo auf beiden Seiten Mauern waren.
25 And the femal asse siy the aungel, and ioynede hir silf to the wal, and hurtlide the foot of the sittere; and he beet eft `the asse.
Die Eselin sah nun den Engel des Herrn und sie drückte sich an die Wand und drückte auch Bileams Fuß an die Wand. Da schlug er sie abermals.
26 And neuer the lesse the aungel yede to the streit place, where me `myyte not go out of the weie, nether to the riyt side nether to the left side, and stood ayens hym.
Da ging der Engel des Herrn nochmals voraus und stellte sich an eine engere Stelle, wo kein Weg war, nach rechts oder links auszuweichen.
27 And whanne the femal asse siy the aungel stondynge, sche felde doun vndir the feet of the sittere, which was wrooth ful greetli, and beet hir sidis with a staaf.
Als die Eselin den Engel des Herrn sah, legte sie sich unter Bileam hin. Da entbrannte Bileams Zorn, und er schlug die Eselin mit dem Stock.
28 And the Lord openyde the `mouth of the femal asse, and sche spak, What have Y doon to thee? whi smytist thou me, lo! now the thridde tyme?
Der Herr aber öffnete den Mund der Eselin. Und sie sprach zu Bileam: "Was habe ich dir getan, daß du mich schon dreimal geschlagen?"
29 Balaam answeride, For thou hast disserued, and hast scornyd me; Y wolde that Y hadde a swerd to sle thee.
Da sprach Bileam zur Eselin: "Zum Narren hast du mich ja gehabt. Hätte ich doch ein Schwert zur Hand! Denn dann würde ich dich töten."
30 And the femal asse seide, Whether Y am not thi beeste on which thou were wont to sitte euere til in to this present dai? seie thou, what lijk thing Y dide euere to thee? And he seide, Neuere.
Da sprach die Eselin zu Bileam: "Bin ich denn nicht deine Eselin, auf der du von jeher bis heute geritten bist? Bin ich je gewohnt gewesen, dir solches zu tun?" Er sprach: "Nein!"
31 Anoon the Lord openyde `the iyen of Balaam, and he siy the aungel stondynge in the weie, holdynge a drawun swerd in the hoond; and Balaam worschipide hym lowli in to erthe.
Da öffnete der Herr dem Bileam die Augen. Und er sah den Engel des Herrn auf dem Wege stehen, sein Schwert gezückt in seiner Hand. Da verneigte er sich und warf sich auf seine Stirne.
32 To whom the aungel seide, Whi `betist thou thi femal asse `the thridde tyme? Y cam to be aduersarie to thee, for thi weie is weiward, and contrarye to me;
Der Engel des Herrn aber sprach zu ihm: "Warum hast du deine Eselin schon dreimal geschlagen? Ich bin es, der ich hemmend ausgezogen bin. Denn diese Reise gefällt mir nicht.
33 and if the femal asse hadde not bowid a wey fro the weie, and youe place to ayenstondere, Y hadde slayn thee, and sche schulde lyue.
Die Eselin aber sah mich und wich vor mir nun schon dreimal aus. Wäre sie nicht vor mir ausgewichen, dann hätte ich dich umgebracht und sie am Leben gelassen."
34 Balaam seide, Y synnede, not witynge that thou stodist ayens me; and now, if it displesith thee that Y go, Y schal turne ayen.
Da sprach Bileam zum Engel des Herrn: "Ich habe gefehlt. Ich habe ja nicht gewußt, daß du mir den Weg vertrittst. Nun aber, wenn dir die Sache mißfällt, dann kehre ich um."
35 The aungel seide, Go thou with these men, but be war that thou speke not other thing than Y schal comaunde to thee. Therfor Balaam yede with the princes.
Da sprach der Engel des Herrn zu Bileam "Geh mit den Männern! Nur sage nichts als das, was ich dir sage!" Da zog Bileam mit Balaks Häuptlingen weiter.
36 And whanne Balaach hadde herde this, he yede out in to the comyng of hym, in the citee of Moabitis, whiche is set in the laste coostis of Arnon.
Als Balak hörte, daß Bileam komme, ging er ihm entgegen bis Ar Moab, das an der Arnongrenze liegt, an der äußersten Grenzmark.
37 And he seide to Balaam, Y sente messangeris to clepe thee; whi camest thou not anoon to me? whethir for Y may not yelde meede to thi comyng?
Da sprach Balak zu Bileam: "Habe ich dich nicht geziemend rufen lassen? Warum bist du nicht zu mir gekommen? Vermag ich wahrhaftig nicht, dich zu belohnen?"
38 To whom Balaam answeride, Lo! Y am present, whethir Y schal mow speke other thing than that, that God schal putte in my mouth?
Da sprach Bileam zu Balak: "Ich bin ja zu dir gekommen. Vermag ich aber wirklich etwas zu reden? Nur das Wort, das Gott mir in den Mund legt, rede ich."
39 Therfor thei yeden forth to gidere, and camen in to a citee, which was in the laste coost of `his rewme.
Da ging Bileam mit Balak, und sie kamen nach Kirjat Chusot.
40 And whanne Balaach hadde slayn scheep and oxun, he sente yiftis to Balaam and the princes that weren with hym.
Da opferte Balak Rinder und Schafe und schickte davon an Bileam und die Häuptlinge bei ihm.
41 Forsothe whanne the morewtid was maad, Balaach ledde Balaam to the hiye placis of Baal, and he bihelde the laste part of the puple, `that is, al the oost til to the laste part.
Am anderen Morgen nahm Balak den Bileam und führte ihn zu den Baalshöhen. Von dort sah er des Volkes Umrisse.
