1 The book of the generacioun of Jhesu Crist, the sone of Dauid, the sone of Abraham.

2 Abraham bigat Isaac. Isaac bigat Jacob. Jacob bigat Judas and hise britheren.
Von Abraham stammt Isaak ab, von Isaak Jakob, von Jakob Juda und dessen Brüder,
3 Judas bigat Fares and Zaram, of Tamar. Fares bigat Esrom.
von Juda und der Thamar Phares und Zara, von Phares Esron, von Esron Aram,
4 Esrom bigat Aram. Aram bigat Amynadab. Amynadab bigat Naason. Naason bigat Salmon.

11 Amon bigat Josias. Josias bigat Jeconyas and his britheren, in to the transmygracioun of Babiloyne.
von Josias Jechonias und dessen Brüder zur Zeit der babylonischen Gefangenschaft.
12 And aftir the transmygracioun of Babiloyne, Jeconyas bigat Salatiel. Salatiel bigat Zorobabel.
Nach der babylonischen Gefangenschaft ward Jechonias der Vater des Salathiel; von Salathiel stammt Zorobabel,
13 Zorobabel bigat Abyut. Abyut bigat Eliachym. Eliachym bigat Asor.
von Zorobabel Abiud, von Abiud Eliakim, von Eliakim Azor,
14 Asor bigat Sadoc. Sadoc bigat Achym.
von Azor Sadok, von Sadok Achim, von Achim Eliud,
15 Achym bigat Elyut. Elyut bigat Eleasar. Eleasar bigat Mathan.
von Eliud Eleazar, von Eleazar Matthan, von Matthan Jakob,
16 Mathan bigat Jacob. Jacob bigat Joseph, the hosebonde of Marye, of whom Jhesus was borun, that is clepid Christ.
von Jakob Joseph, der Mann Marias. Aus dieser ward Jesus geboren, der Christus genannt wird.
17 And so alle generaciouns fro Abraham to Dauid ben fourtene generacions, and fro Dauid to the transmygracioun of Babiloyne ben fourtene generaciouns, and fro the transmygracioun of Babiloyne to Crist ben fourtene generaciouns.
Es sind demnach im ganzen von Abraham bis David 14 Geschlechter, von David bis zur babylonischen Gefangenschaft vierzehn Geschlechter, von der babylonischen Gefangenschaft bis auf Christus vierzehn Geschlechter.
18 But the generacioun of Crist was thus. Whanne Marie, the modir of Jhesu, was spousid to Joseph, bifore thei camen togidere, she was foundun hauynge of the Hooli Goost in the wombe.
Mit der Geburt Jesu Christi verhielt es sich also: Maria, seine Mutter, war mit Joseph verlobt. Da fand es sich, noch ehe sie zusammenwohnten, daß sie durch den Heiligen Geist empfangen hatte.
19 And Joseph, hir hosebonde, for he was riytful, and wolde not puplische hir, he wolde priueli haue left hir.
Indes Joseph, ihr Mann, war rechtlich denkend und wollte sie nicht bloßstellen, und so gedachte er, sie im stillen zu entlassen.
20 But while he thouyte thes thingis, lo! the aungel of the Lord apperide `in sleep to hym, and seide, Joseph, the sone of Dauid, nyle thou drede to take Marie, thi wijf; for that thing that is borun in hir is of the Hooli Goost.
Noch trug er sich mit diesen Gedanken, siehe, da erschien ihm im Traum ein Engel des Herrn. Er sprach: "Joseph, Sohn Davids, trage kein Bedenken, Maria, dein Weib, zu dir ins Haus zu nehmen; denn, was in ihr erzeugt ist, stammt vom Heiligen Geist.
21 And she shal bere a sone, and thou shalt clepe his name Jhesus; for he schal make his puple saaf fro her synnes.
Sie wird einen Sohn gebären, dem du den Namen Jesus geben sollst; denn dieser wird sein Volk von seinen Sünden retten".
22 For al this thing was don, that it schulde be fulfillid, that was seid of the Lord bi a prophete, seiynge, Lo!
Dies alles aber ist geschehen, damit erfüllt werde, was von dem Herrn durch den Propheten gesprochen ward, wenn er sagt:
23 a virgyn shal haue in wombe, and she schal bere a sone, and thei schulen clepe his name Emanuel, that is to seie, God with vs.
"Siehe, die Jungfrau wird empfangen und einen Sohn gebären, und man wird ihn Emmanuel - d. h. 'Gott mit uns' - heißen".
24 And Joseph roos fro sleepe, and dide as the aungel of the Lord comaundide hym, and took Marie, his wijf;
Joseph stand auf vom Schlaf und tat, wie ihm der Engel des Herrn geboten hatte; er nahm sein Weib zu sich ins Haus.
25 and he knew her not, til she hadde borun her firste bigete sone, and clepide his name Jhesus.
Jedoch erkannte er sie nicht, bis sie ein Kind (das Erstgeborene) geboren hatte; und er gab ihm den Namen Jesus.
