Matthew 8
1 But whanne Jhesus was come doun fro the hil, mych puple suede hym.
Quand il descendit de la montagne, de grandes troupes le suivirent.
2 And loo! a leprouse man cam, and worschipide hym, and seide, Lord, if thou wolt, thou maist make me clene.
Survint un lépreux qui s'approcha et se prosterna. devant lui: «Seigneur, dit-il, si tu le veux, tu peux me guérir.»
3 And Jhesus helde forth the hoond, and touchide hym, and seide, Y wole, be thou maad cleene. And anoon the lepre of him was clensid.
Jésus étendit la main, le toucha et dit: «Je le veux, sois guéri»; et à l'instant il fut guéri de sa lèpre.
4 And Jhesus seide to hym, Se, seie thou to no man; but go, shewe thee to the prestis, and offre the yift that Moyses comaundide, in witnessyng to hem.
Jésus ajouta: «Garde-toi de parler de ceci à personne; mais va te montrer au prêtre et offre le don prescrit par Moïse; que ce leur soit un témoignage.»
5 And whanne he hadde entrid in to Cafarnaum, `the centurien neiyede to him, and preiede him,
Comme il entrait dans Capharnaüm, un centurion s'approcha de lui, lui adressant cette prière:
6 and seide, Lord, my childe lijth in the hous sijk on the palesie, and is yuel turmentid.
Seigneur, mon serviteur est dans ma maison, étendu sur son lit, paralytique et en proie à de cruelles souffrances.»
7 And Jhesus seide to him, Y schal come, and schal heele him.
Jésus lui répondit: «J'irai, et je le guérirai.»
8 And the centurien answeride, and seide to hym, Lord, Y am not worthi, that thou entre vndur my roof; but oonli seie thou bi word, and my childe shal be heelid.
Alors le centurion reprit: «Seigneur, je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit, mais donne seulement un ordre et mon serviteur sera guéri.
9 For whi Y am a man ordeyned vndur power, and haue knyytis vndir me; and Y seie to this, Go, and he goith; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my seruaunt, Do this, and he doith it.
Car moi (qui ne suis pourtant qu'un subordonné) j'ai sous mes ordres des soldats, et si je dis à l'un: «va-t'en» — il s'en va; à l'autre: «viens» — il vient; à mon esclave: «fais cela — il le fait.»
10 And Jhesus herde these thingis, and wondride, and seide to men `that sueden him, Treuli Y seie to you, Y foond not so greet feith in Israel.
Jésus fut dans l'admiration de ce langage; et s'adressant à ceux qui le suivaient: «Je vous le dis en vérité, chez personne, même en Israël, je n'ai trouvé une foi aussi grande?
11 And Y seie to you, that many schulen come fro the eest and the west, and schulen reste with Abraham and Ysaac and Jacob in the kyngdom of heuenes;
Je vous déclare que plusieurs viendront de l'Orient et de l'Occident et se mettront à table avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob dans le Royaume des cieux,
12 but the sones of the rewme schulen be cast out in to vtmer derknessis; there schal be wepyng, and grynting of teeth.
tandis que les fils du Royaume seront jetés dehors dans les ténèbres. Là seront les pleurs et le grincement des dents.»
13 And Jhesus seide to the centurioun, Go, and as thou hast bileuyd, be it doon to thee. And the child was heelid fro that hour.
Ensuite Jésus dit au centurion; «Va et qu'il te soit fait comme tu as cru.» Et, à cette heure même, le serviteur fut guéri.
14 And whanne Jhesus was comun in to the hous of Symount Petre, he say his wyues modir liggynge, and shakun with feueris.
Arrivé à la maison de Pierre, Jésus vit la belle-mère de celui-ci, couchée; elle avait la fièvre.
15 And he touchide hir hoond, and the feuer lefte hir; and she roos, and seruede hem.
Il lui toucha la main et la fièvre disparut; aussi se leva-t-elle et se mit-elle à les servir.
16 And whanne it was euen, thei brouyten to hym manye that hadden deuelis, and he castide out spiritis bi word, and heelide alle that weren yuel at ese;
Le soir venu, on lui apporta beaucoup de démoniaques, et d'un mot il chassait les Esprits. Il guérit aussi tous ceux qui étaient malades,
17 that it were fulfillid, that was seid by Ysaie, the profete, seiynge, He took oure infirmytees, and bar oure siknessis.
afin que fût accompli ce qu'avait annoncé le prophète Ésaïe disant: «C'est lui qui a pris nos infirmités et porté nos maladies.»
18 And Jhesus say myche puple aboute him, and bade hise disciplis go ouer the watir.
Voyant de nombreuses troupes autour de lui, Jésus donna l'ordre de passer sur l'autre rive.
19 And a scribe neiyede, and seide to hym, Maistir, Y shal sue thee, whidir euer thou schalt go.
Alors un Scribe, s'avançant, lui dit: «Maître, je te suivrai partout où tu iras.»
20 And Jhesus seide to hym, Foxis han dennes, and briddis of heuene han nestis, but mannus sone hath not where `he schal reste his heed.
Jésus lui répond: «Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel ont des nids; mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer sa tête.»
21 Anothir of his disciplis seide to him, Lord, suffre me to go first, and birie my fader.
«Seigneur, lui dit un autre des disciples, permets-moi d'aller d'abord ensevelir mon père.»
22 But Jhesus seide to hym, Sue thou me, and lete deed men birie her deede men.
«Suis-moi! Lui répond Jésus, et laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts!»
23 And whanne he was goon vp in to a litil schip, his disciplis sueden hym.
Il monta dans la barque, suivi de ses disciples.
24 And loo! a greet stiring was maad in the see, so that the schip was hilid with wawes; but he slepte.
Soudain une grande tempête s'éleva sur la mer, à tel point que la barque était couverte par les vagues. Lui, il dormait.
25 And hise disciplis camen to hym, and reysiden hym, and seiden, Lord, saue vs; we perischen.
Les disciples s'approchèrent de lui et le réveillèrent. «Sauve-nous, Seigneur, lui dirent-ils, nous périssons!»
26 And Jhesus seide to hem, What ben ye of litil feith agaste? Thanne he roos, and comaundide to the wyndis and the see, and a greet pesibilnesse was maad.
Il leur répondit: «Pourquoi vous effrayez-vous, hommes de peu de foi?» Alors il se leva, fit des menaces aux vents et à la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.
27 And men wondriden, and seiden, What maner man is he this, for the wyndis and the see obeischen to him?
Ces hommes dirent alors remplis d'admiration: «Qui est-il pour que lui obéissent et les vents et la mer?»
28 And whanne Jhesus was comun ouer the watir in to the cuntre of men of Gerasa, twey men metten hym, that hadden deuelis, and camen out of graues, ful woode, so that noo man myyte go bi that weie.
Quand il fut arrivé à l'autre bord, dans le pays des Gadaréniens, vinrent à sa rencontre deux démoniaques, sortant des sépulcres. Ils étaient si dangereux que personne n'osait passer par ce chemin.
29 And lo! thei crieden, and seiden, What to vs and to thee, Jhesu, the sone of God? `art thou comun hidir bifore the tyme to turmente vs?
Qu'y a-t-il entre nous et toi, fils de Dieu?» se mirent-ils à crier. «Es-tu venu ici pour nous torturer avant le temps.»
30 And not fer fro hem was a flocke of many swyne lesewynge.
Or, il y avait, dans l'éloignement, un nombreux troupeau de pourceaux qui paissaient.
31 And the deuelis preyeden hym, and seiden, If thou castist out vs fro hennes, sende vs in to the droue of swyne.
Les démons lui adressaient cette demande: «Si tu nous chasses, envoie-nous dans ce troupeau de pourceaux.»
32 And he seide to hem, Go ye. And thei yeden out, and wenten in to the swyne; and loo! in a greet bire al the droue wente heedlyng in to the see, and thei weren deed in the watris.
«Allez!» leur dit Jésus. Alors ils partirent et entrèrent dans les pourceaux; et voilà que, d'une course impétueuse, le troupeau tout entier se précipita dans la mer et périt dans les flots.
33 And the hirdis fledden awey, and camen in to the citee, and telden alle these thingis, and of hem that hadden the feendis.
Les gardeurs prirent la fuite; ils allèrent à la ville tout raconter, et ce qui était arrivé aux démoniaques.
34 And lo! al the citee wente out ayens Jhesu; and whanne thei hadden seyn hym, thei preieden, that he wolde passe fro her coostis.
Là dessus, la ville entière sortit au devant de Jésus, et, quand ces gens le virent ils le prièrent de s'éloigner de leur pays.
