Matthew 27
1 But whanne the morowtid was comun, alle the princis of prestis, and the eldre men of the puple token counsel ayens Jhesu, that thei schulden take hym to the deeth.
Or, quand le matin fut venu, tous les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple tinrent conseil contre Jésus pour le faire mourir.
2 And thei ledden him boundun, and bitoken to Pilat of Pounce, iustice.
Et l’ayant lié, ils l’emmenèrent et le livrèrent à Ponce Pilate, le gouverneur.
3 Thanne Judas that bitraiede hym, say that he was dampned, he repentide, and brouyte ayen the thretti pans to the princis of prestis, and to the elder men of the puple,
Alors Judas qui l’avait livré, voyant qu’il était condamné, ayant du remords, reporta les 30 pièces d’argent aux principaux sacrificateurs et aux anciens,
4 and seide, Y haue synned, bitraiynge riytful blood. And thei seiden, What to vs? bise thee.
disant: J’ai péché en livrant le sang innocent. Mais ils dirent: Que nous importe! tu y aviseras.
5 And whanne he hadde cast forth the siluer in the temple, he passide forth, and yede, and hongide hym silf with a snare.
Et ayant jeté l’argent dans le temple, il se retira; et s’en étant allé, il se pendit.
6 And the princis of prestis token the siluer, and seide, It is not leueful to putte it in to the treserie, for it is the prijs of blood.
Mais les principaux sacrificateurs, ayant pris les pièces d’argent, dirent: Il n’est pas permis de les mettre dans le trésor sacré, puisque c’est le prix du sang.
7 And whanne thei hadden take counsel, thei bouyten with it a feeld of a potter, in to biryyng of pilgrymys.
Et ayant tenu conseil, ils achetèrent avec cet [argent] le champ du potier, pour la sépulture des étrangers;
8 Herfor thilke feeld is clepid Acheldemac, that is, a feeld of blood, in to this dai.
c’est pourquoi ce champ-là a été appelé Champ de sang, jusqu’à aujourd’hui.
9 Thanne that was fulfillid, that was seid bi the prophete Jeremye, seiynge, And thei han takun thretti pans, the prijs of a man preysid, whom thei preiseden of the children of Israel;
Alors fut accompli ce qui avait été dit par Jérémie le prophète, disant: Et ils ont pris les 30 pièces d’argent, le prix de celui qui a été évalué, lequel ceux d’entre les fils d’Israël ont évalué;
10 and thei yauen hem in to a feeld of a potter, as the Lord hath ordenyd to me.
et ils les ont données pour le champ du potier, comme le Seigneur m’avait ordonné.
11 And Jhesus stood bifor the domesman; and the iustice axide him, and seide, Art thou king of Jewis?
Or Jésus se tenait devant le gouverneur; et le gouverneur l’interrogea, disant: Es-tu, toi, le roi des Juifs? Et Jésus lui dit: Tu le dis.
12 Jhesus seith to hym, Thou seist. And whanne he was accusid of the princis of prestis, and of the eldere men of the puple, he answeride no thing.
Et étant accusé par les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens, il ne répondit rien.
13 Thanne Pilat seith to him, Herist thou not, hou many witnessyngis thei seien ayens thee?
Alors Pilate lui dit: N’entends-tu pas de combien de choses ils portent témoignage contre toi?
14 And he answeride not `to hym ony word, so that the iustice wondride greetli.
Et il ne lui répondit pas même un seul mot; en sorte que le gouverneur s’en étonnait fort.
15 But for a solempne dai the iustice was wont to delyuere to the puple oon boundun, whom thei wolden.
Or, à la fête, le gouverneur avait coutume de relâcher un prisonnier à la foule, celui qu’ils voulaient.
16 And he hadde tho a famous man boundun, that was seid Barrabas.
Et il y avait alors un prisonnier fameux, nommé Barabbas.
17 Therfor Pilate seide to hem, whanne thei weren to gidere, Whom wolen ye, that Y delyuere to you? whether Barabas, or Jhesu, that is seid Crist?
Comme donc ils étaient assemblés, Pilate leur dit: Lequel voulez-vous que je vous relâche, Barabbas, ou Jésus qui est appelé Christ?
18 For he wiste, that bi enuye thei bitraieden hym.
Car il savait qu’ils l’avaient livré par envie.
19 And while he sat for domesman, his wijf sente to hym, and seide, No thing to thee and to that iust man; for Y haue suffrid this dai many thingis for hym, bi a visioun.
Et comme il était assis sur le tribunal, sa femme lui envoya dire: N’aie rien à faire avec ce juste; car j’ai beaucoup souffert aujourd’hui à son sujet dans un songe.
20 Forsothe the prince of prestis, and the eldere men counseiliden the puple, that thei schulden axe Barabas, but thei schulden distrye Jhesu.
Mais les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens persuadèrent aux foules de demander Barabbas et de faire périr Jésus.
21 But the iustice answeride, and seide to hem, Whom of the tweyn wolen ye, that be delyuerit to you? And thei seiden, Barabas.
Et le gouverneur, répondant, leur dit: Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche? Et ils dirent: Barabbas.
22 Pilat seith to hem, What thanne schal Y do of Jhesu, that is seid Crist?
Pilate leur dit: Que ferai-je donc de Jésus, qui est appelé Christ? Ils disent tous: Qu’il soit crucifié!
23 Alle seien, `Be he crucified. The iustice seith to hem, What yuel hath he doon? And thei crieden more, and seiden, Be he crucified.
Et le gouverneur dit: Mais quel mal a-t-il fait? Et ils s’écriaient encore plus fort, disant: Qu’il soit crucifié!
24 And Pilat seynge that he profitide no thing, but that the more noyse was maad, took watir, and waischide hise hondis bifor the puple, and seide, Y am giltles of the blood of this riytful man; bise you.
Et Pilate, voyant qu’il ne gagnait rien, mais que plutôt il s’élevait un tumulte, prit de l’eau et se lava les mains devant la foule, disant: Je suis innocent du sang de ce juste; vous, vous y aviserez.
25 And al the puple answeride, and seide, His blood be on vs, and on oure children.
Et tout le peuple, répondant, dit: Que son sang soit sur nous et sur nos enfants!
26 Thanne he deliuerede to hem Barabas, but he took to hem Jhesu scourgid, to be crucified.
Alors il leur relâcha Barabbas; et ayant fait fouetter Jésus, il le livra pour être crucifié.
27 Thanne knyytis of the iustice token Jhesu in the moot halle, and gadriden to hym al the cumpeny `of knyytis.
Alors les soldats du gouverneur, ayant emmené Jésus au prétoire, assemblèrent contre lui toute la cohorte.
28 And thei vnclothiden hym, and diden aboute hym a reed mantil;
Et lui ayant ôté ses vêtements, ils lui mirent un manteau d’écarlate;
29 and thei foldiden a coroun of thornes, and putten on his heed, and a rehed in his riyt hoond; and thei kneliden bifore hym, and scornyden hym, and seiden, Heil, kyng of Jewis.
et ayant tressé une couronne d’épines, ils la mirent sur sa tête, et un roseau dans sa main droite; et fléchissant les genoux devant lui, ils se moquaient de lui, disant: Salut, roi des Juifs!
30 And thei speten on hym, and tooken a rehed, and smoot his heed.
Et ayant craché contre lui, ils prirent le roseau et lui en frappaient la tête.
31 And aftir that thei hadden scorned him, thei vnclothiden hym of the mantil, and thei clothiden hym with hise clothis, and ledden hym to `crucifien hym.
Et après qu’ils se furent moqués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent le manteau, et le revêtirent de ses vêtements, et l’emmenèrent pour le crucifier.
32 And as thei yeden out, thei founden a man of Cirenen comynge fro the toun, Symont bi name; thei constreyneden hym to take his cross.
Et comme ils sortaient, ils trouvèrent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon, qu’ils contraignirent de porter sa croix.
33 And thei camen in to a place that is clepid Golgatha, that is, the place of Caluarie.
Et étant arrivés au lieu appelé Golgotha, ce qui signifie lieu du crâne,
34 And thei yauen hym to drynke wyne meynd with galle; and whanne he hadde tastid, he wolde not drynke.
ils lui donnèrent à boire du vinaigre mêlé de fiel; et l’ayant goûté, il ne voulut pas en boire.
35 And aftir that thei hadden crucified hym, thei departiden his clothis, and kesten lotte, to fulfille that is seid bi the prophete, seiynge, Thei partiden to hem my clothis, and on my clooth thei kesten lott.
Et l’ayant crucifié, ils partagèrent ses vêtements, en tirant au sort;
36 And thei seten, and kepten him;
et s’étant assis, ils veillaient là sur lui.
37 and setten aboue his heed his cause writun, This is Jhesu of Nazareth, kyng of Jewis.
Et ils placèrent au-dessus de sa tête son accusation écrite: Celui-ci est Jésus, le roi des Juifs.
38 Thanne twey theues weren crucified with hym, oon on the riythalf, and oon on the lefthalf.
Alors sont crucifiés avec lui deux brigands, un à la droite, et un à la gauche.
39 And men that passiden forth blasfemeden hym,
Et ceux qui passaient par là l’injuriaient, hochant la tête,
40 mouynge her heedis, and seiynge, Vath to thee, that distriest the temple of God, and in the thridde dai bildist it ayen; saue thou thi silf; if thou art the sone of God, come doun of the cross.
et disant: Toi qui détruis le temple et qui le bâtis en trois jours, sauve-toi toi-même. Si tu es Fils de Dieu, descends de la croix.
41 Also and princis of prestis scornynge, with scribis and elder men,
Et pareillement aussi les principaux sacrificateurs avec les scribes et les anciens, se moquant, disaient:
42 seiden, He made othere men saaf, he may not make hym silf saaf; if he is kyng of Israel, come he now doun fro the crosse, and we bileuen to hym;
Il a sauvé les autres, il ne peut se sauver lui-même; s’il est le roi d’Israël, qu’il descende maintenant de la croix, et nous croirons en lui.
43 he tristide in God; delyuer he hym now, if he wole; for he seide, That Y am Goddis sone.
Il s’est confié en Dieu; qu’il le délivre maintenant, s’il tient à lui; car il a dit: Je suis Fils de Dieu.
44 And the theues, that weren crucified with hym, vpbreididen hym of the same thing.
Et les brigands aussi qui avaient été crucifiés avec lui l’insultaient de la même manière.
45 But fro the sixte our derknessis weren maad on al the erthe, to the nynthe our.
Mais, depuis la sixième heure, il y eut des ténèbres sur tout le pays, jusqu’à la neuvième heure.
46 And aboute the nynthe our Jhesus criede with a greet vois, and seide, Heli, Heli, lamazabatany, that is, My God, my God, whi hast thou forsake me?
Et vers la neuvième heure, Jésus s’écria d’une forte voix, disant: Éli, Éli, lama sabachthani? c’est-à-dire: Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’as-tu abandonné?
47 And summen that stoden there, and herynge, seiden, This clepith Helye.
Et quelques-uns de ceux qui se tenaient là, ayant entendu [cela], disaient: Il appelle Élie, celui-ci!
48 And anoon oon of hem rennynge, took and fillide a spounge with vynegre, and puttide on a rehed, and yaf to hym to drynke.
Et aussitôt l’un d’entre eux courut et prit une éponge, et l’ayant remplie de vinaigre, la mit au bout d’un roseau, et lui donna à boire.
49 But othir seiden, Suffre thou; se we whether Helie come to deliuer hym.
Mais les autres disaient: Laisse, voyons si Élie vient pour le sauver.
50 Forsothe Jhesus eftsoone criede with a greet voyce, and yaf vp the goost.
Et Jésus, ayant encore crié d’une forte voix, rendit l’esprit.
51 And lo! the veil of the temple was to-rent in twey parties, fro the hiest to the lowest. And the erthe schoke, and stoonus weren cloue; and birielis weren openyd,
Et voici, le voile du temple se déchira en deux, depuis le haut jusqu’en bas; et la terre trembla, et les rochers se fendirent,
52 and many bodies of seyntis that hadden slepte, rysen vp.
et les sépulcres s’ouvrirent; et beaucoup de corps des saints endormis ressuscitèrent,
53 And thei yeden out of her birielis, and aftir his resurreccioun thei camen in to the holi citee, and apperiden to many.
et étant sortis des sépulcres après sa résurrection, ils entrèrent dans la sainte ville, et apparurent à plusieurs.
54 And the centurien and thei that weren with hym kepinge Jhesu, whanne thei saien the erthe schakynge, and tho thingis that weren doon, thei dredden greetli,
Et le centurion et ceux qui avec lui veillaient sur Jésus, ayant vu le tremblement de terre et ce qui venait d’arriver, eurent une fort grande peur, disant: Certainement celui-ci était Fils de Dieu.
55 and seiden, Verili this was Goddis sone. And ther weren there many wymmen afer, that sueden Jhesu fro Galilee, and mynystriden to hym.
Et il y avait là plusieurs femmes qui regardaient de loin, qui avaient suivi Jésus depuis la Galilée, en le servant,
56 Among whiche was Marie Magdalene, and Marie, the modir of James, and of Joseph, and the modir of Zebedees sones.
entre lesquelles étaient Marie de Magdala, et Marie, la mère de Jacques et de Joses, et la mère des fils de Zébédée.
57 But whanne the euenyng was come, ther cam a riche man of Armathi, Joseph bi name, and he was a disciple of Jhesu.
Et, le soir étant venu, il arriva un homme riche d’Arimathée, dont le nom était Joseph, qui aussi lui-même était disciple de Jésus.
58 He wente to Pilat, and axide the bodi of Jhesu.
Celui-ci étant allé auprès de Pilate, demanda le corps de Jésus; alors Pilate donna l’ordre que le corps soit livré.
59 Thanne Pilat comaundide the bodie to be youun. And whanne the bodi was takun, Joseph lappide it in a clene sendel,
Et Joseph, ayant pris le corps, l’enveloppa d’un linceul net,
60 and leide it in his newe biriel, that he hadde hewun in a stoon; and he walewide a greet stoon to the dore of the biriel, and wente awei.
et le mit dans son sépulcre neuf qu’il avait taillé dans le roc; et ayant roulé une grande pierre contre la porte du sépulcre, il s’en alla.
61 But Marie Maudelene and anothir Marie weren there, sittynge ayens the sepulcre.
Et Marie de Magdala et l’autre Marie étaient là, assises vis-à-vis du sépulcre.
62 And on `the tother dai, that is aftir pask euen, the princis of prestis and the Farisees camen togidere to Pilat,
Et le lendemain, qui est après la Préparation, les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens s’assemblèrent auprès de Pilate,
63 and seiden, Sir, we han mynde, that thilke giloure seide yit lyuynge, Aftir thre daies Y schal rise ayen to lijf.
disant: Seigneur, il nous souvient que ce séducteur, pendant qu’il était encore en vie, disait: Après trois jours, je ressuscite.
64 Therfor comaunde thou, that the sepulcre be kept in to the thridde dai; lest hise disciplis comen, and stelen hym, and seie to the puple, He hath rise fro deeth; and the laste errour schal be worse than the formere.
Ordonne donc que le sépulcre soit gardé avec soin jusqu’au troisième jour; de peur que ses disciples ne viennent et ne le dérobent, et ne disent au peuple: Il est ressuscité des morts; et ce dernier égarement sera pire que le premier.
65 Pilat seide to hem, Ye han the kepyng; go ye, kepe ye as ye kunnen.
Et Pilate leur dit: Vous avez une garde; allez, rendez-le sûr comme vous l’entendez.
66 And thei yeden forth, and kepten the sepulcre, markynge the stoon, with keperis.
Et eux, s’en allant, rendirent le sépulcre sûr, scellant la pierre, et y mettant la garde.
