Luke 24
1 But in o dai of the woke ful eerli thei camen to the graue, and brouyten swete smellynge spices, that thei hadden arayed.
Mais le premier jour de la semaine, de très grand matin, elles se rendirent au tombeau, portant avec elles les aromates qu'elles avaient préparés.
2 And thei founden the stoon turned awei fro the graue.
Elles s'aperçurent que la pierre avait été éloignée de l'ouverture du sépulcre.
3 And thei yeden in, and founden not the bodi of the Lord Jhesu.
Elles entrèrent et ne trouvèrent pas le corps du Seigneur Jésus.
4 And it was don, the while thei weren astonyed in thouyt of this thing, lo! twei men stoden bisidis hem in schynynge cloth.
Elles en étaient consternées; mais voilà que deux hommes se présentèrent à elles, vêtus de robes resplendissantes.
5 And whanne thei dredden, and boweden her semblaunt in to the erthe, thei seiden to hem, What seken ye hym that lyueth with deed men?
Et comme, tout effrayées, elles inclinaient leurs visages vers la terre, ils leur dirent: «Pourquoi cherchez-vous parmi les morts celui qui est vivant?
6 He is not here, but is risun. Haue ye mynde, hou he spak to you, whanne he was yit in Galile,
Il n'est pas ici; tout au contraire, il est ressuscité. Souvenez-vous comment il vous a parlé quand il était encore en Galilée.
7 and seide, For it bihoueth mannys sone to be bitakun in to the hondis of synful men, and to be crucified, and the thridde dai to rise ayen.
Il faut, disait-il, que le Fils de l'homme soit livré entre les mains des pécheurs, qu'il soit crucifié et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour.»
8 And thei bithouyten on hise wordis.
Elles se souvinrent alors de ses paroles.
9 And thei yeden ayen fro the graue, and telden alle these thingis to the enleuene, and to alle othir.
De retour du tombeau, elles annoncèrent tout cela aux onze et à tous les autres.
10 And ther was Marie Mawdeleyn, and Joone, and Marie of James, and other wymmen that weren with hem, that seiden to apostlis these thingis.
C'étaient Marie Magdeleine, Jeanne, Marie mère de Jacques, et quelques autres avec elles qui racontèrent cela aux apôtres.
11 And these wordis weren seyn bifor hem as madnesse, and thei bileueden not to hem.
Et leurs dires leur firent l'effet d'une absurdité et ils ne les crurent pas.
12 But Petir roos vp, and ran to the graue; and he bowide doun, and say the lynen clothis liynge aloone. And he wente bi him silf, wondrynge on that that was don.
(Pierre, cependant, se leva et courut au sépulcre. S’étant baissé, il ne vit que des linges qui étaient à terre, puis il retourna chez lui, surpris de ce qui était arrivé.)
13 And lo! tweyne of hem wenten in that dai in to a castel, that was fro Jerusalem the space of sixti furlongis, bi name Emaws.
Ce même jour, deux d'entre les disciples s'en allaient à un village situé à soixante stades de Jérusalem, nommé Emmaüs,
14 And thei spaken togidir of alle these thingis that haddun bifallun.
et ils s'entretenaient ensemble de tout ce qui venait de se passer.
15 And it was don, the while thei talkiden, and souyten bi hem silf, Jhesus hym silf neiyede, and wente with hem.
Tandis qu'ils s'entretenaient ainsi et discutaient, Jésus lui-même s'approcha et se mit à marcher avec eux.
16 But her iyen weren holdun, that thei knewen him not.
Mais une force empêchait leurs yeux de le reconnaître.
17 And he seide to hem, What ben these wordis, that ye speken togidir wandrynge, and ye ben sorewful?
«Quelles sont, leur dit-il, ces paroles que vous échangez l'un et l'autre tout en marchant?» Ils étaient pleins de tristesse
18 And oon, whos name was Cleofas, answerde, and seide, Thou thi silf art a pilgrym in Jerusalem, and hast thou not knowun, what thingis ben don in it in these daies?
et l'un d'eux, appelé Cléopas, lui répondit. «Tu es bien seul, lui dit-il, et bien étranger à Jérusalem si tu ne sais pas ce qui y est arrivé ces jours-ci.» —
19 To whom he seide, What thingis? And thei seiden to hym, Of Jhesu of Nazareth, that was a man prophete, myyti in werk and word bifor God and al the puple;
«Quoi donc?», leur demanda-t-il. Ils lui répondirent: «L'affaire de Jésus de Nazareth qui fut un prophète puissant en oeuvres et en paroles devant Dieu et devant tout le peuple.
20 and hou the heiyest preestis of oure princis bitoken hym in to dampnacioun of deeth, and crucifieden hym.
Les chefs des prêtres et nos magistrats l'ont livré pour le faire condamner à mort et l'ont crucifié.
21 But we hopiden, that he schulde haue ayenbouyt Israel. And now on alle these thingis the thridde dai is to dai, that these thingis weren don.
Nous, nous espérions qu'il était celui qui doit délivrer Israël. Mais, avec tout cela, voici le troisième jour que ces choses sont arrivées!»
22 But also summe wymmen of ouris maden vs afered, whiche bifor dai weren at the graue; and whanne his bodi was not foundun,
«De plus, certaines femmes qui sont des nôtres nous ont fort effrayés. Elles sont allées de grand matin au tombeau
23 thei camen, and seiden, that thei syen also a siyt of aungels, whiche seien, that he lyueth.
et n'y ont pas trouvé son corps; et elles sont venues nous dire qu'elles ont même vu une apparition d'anges. Ces anges leur ont dit qu'il est vivant.
24 And summe of oure wenten to the graue, and thei founden so as the wymmen seiden, but thei founden not hym.
Alors quelques-uns des nôtres sont allés au tombeau; ils ont trouvé toutes choses comme les femmes avaient dit; mais, lui, ils ne l'ont pas vu.»
25 And he seide to hem, A! foolis, and slowe of herte to bileue in alle thingis that the prophetis han spokun.
«Ô insensés! leur dit-il alors, coeurs lents à croire tout ce qu'ont dit les prophètes?
26 Whethir it bihofte not Crist to suffre these thingis, and so to entre in to his glorie?
Ne fallait-il pas que le Christ souffrît ces choses et entrât dans sa gloire?
27 And he bigan at Moises and at alle the prophetis, and declaride to hem in alle scripturis, that weren of hym.
Et commençant par Moïse et par tous les Prophètes, il leur expliquait dans toutes les Écritures ce qui le concernait.
28 And thei camen nyy the castel, whidur thei wenten. And he made countenaunce that he wolde go ferthere.
Ils approchaient du village où ils se rendaient et lui faisait semblant d'aller plus loin.
29 And thei constreyneden hym, and seiden, Dwelle with vs, for it drawith to nyyt, and the dai is now bowid doun.
Mais ils le retinrent. «Demeure avec nous, lui dirent-ils, car il se fait tard; le jour est déjà sur son déclin.» entra pour demeurer avec eux.
30 And he entride with hem. And it was don, while he sat at the mete with hem, he took breed, and blesside, and brak, and took to hem.
Comme ils étaient ensemble à table, il prit le pain, prononça la bénédiction, le rompit et le leur donna.
31 And the iyen of hem weren openyd, and thei knewen hym; and he vanyschide fro her iyen.
Leurs yeux s'ouvrirent, et ils le reconnurent, mais lui-même avait disparu de devant eux.
32 And thei seiden togidir, Whether oure herte was not brennynge in vs, while he spak in the weie, and openyde to vs scripturis?
«N'est-ce pas, se dirent-ils l'un à l'autre, que notre coeur était tout enflammé en nous-mêmes, lorsqu'il nous parlait dans le chemin et qu'il nous ouvrait le sens des Écritures.»
33 And thei risen vp in the same our, and wenten ayen in to Jerusalem, and founden the enleuene gaderid togidir, and hem that weren with hem,
Ils se levèrent à l'heure même, retournèrent à Jérusalem et trouvèrent réunis les onze et ceux qui étaient des leurs;
34 seiynge, That the Lord is risun verrili, and apperide to Symount.
ceux-ci leur dirent: «Le Seigneur est vraiment ressuscité et il est apparu à Simon.»
35 And thei tolden what thingis weren don in the weie, and hou thei knewen hym in brekyng of breed.
Quant à eux, ils racontèrent ce qui s'était passé dans le chemin, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu à la fraction du pain.
36 And the while thei spaken these thingis, Jhesus stood in the myddil of hem, and seide to hem, Pees to you; Y am, nyle ye drede.
Pendant qu'ils parlaient, Jésus parut au milieu d'eux et leur dit: «La paix soit avec vous!»
37 But thei weren affraied and agast, and gessiden hem to se a spirit.
Troublés, épouvantés, ils croyaient voir un Esprit.
38 And he seide to hem, What ben ye troblid, and thouytis comen vp in to youre hertis?
«Pourquoi vous troublez-vous, leur dit-il, et pourquoi ces hésitations qui montent dans vos coeurs?
39 Se ye my hoondis and my feet, for Y my silf am. Fele ye, and se ye; for a spirit hath not fleisch and boonys, as ye seen that Y haue.
Voyez mes mains et mes pieds, c'est bien moi. Touchez-moi; regardez-moi; un Esprit n'a ni chair ni os comme vous voyez que j'en ai».
40 And whanne he hadde seid this thing, he schewide hoondis and feet to hem.
(En leur disant cela, il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds.)
41 And yit while thei bileueden not, and wondriden for ioye, he seide, Han ye here ony thing that schal be etun?
Comme dans leur stupéfaction et leur joie ils ne croyaient point encore, il leur demanda: «Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger?»
42 And thei proferden hym a part of a fisch rostid, and an hony combe.
Ils lui présentèrent un morceau de poisson grillé.
43 And whanne he hadde etun bifore hem, he took that that lefte, and yaf to hem;
Il le prit et le mangea devant eux.
44 and seide `to hem, These ben the wordis that Y spak to you, whanne Y was yit with you; for it is nede that alle thingis ben fulfillid, that ben writun in the lawe of Moises, and in prophetis, and in salmes, of me.
Il ajouta: «Voilà ce que je vous disais quand j'étais encore avec vous et vous parlais. Je vous disais qu'il fallait que fût accompli tout ce qui est écrit de moi dans la Loi de Moïse, dans les Prophètes et dans les Psaumes.»
45 Thanne he openyde to hem wit, that thei schulden vnderstonde scripturis.
Et là-dessus il leur ouvrit l'intelligence pour qu'ils comprissent les Écritures.
46 And he seide to hem, For thus it is writun, and thus it bihofte Crist to suffre, and ryse ayen fro deeth in the thridde dai;
«C'est ainsi, leur dit-il, qu'il est écrit que le Christ souffrira et ressuscitera d'entre les morts le troisième jour,
47 and penaunce and remyssioun of synnes to be prechid in his name `in to alle folkis, bigynnynge at Jerusalem.
et que la repentance et la rémission des péchés seront prêchées en son nom parmi toutes les nations, à commencer par Jérusalem.
48 And ye ben witnessis of these thingis.
Vous, vous êtes témoins de ces choses.
49 And Y schal sende the biheest of my fadir in to you; but sitte ye in the citee, til that ye be clothid with vertu from an hiy.
Et moi, j'enverrai sur vous ce que mon Père a promis. Vous demeurerez donc dans la ville, jusqu'à ce que vous ayez été revêtus d'une force d'en haut.»
50 And he ledde hem forth in to Betanye, and whanne his hondis weren lift vp, he blesside hem.
Puis il les emmena jusque vers Béthanie et, levant les mains, il les bénit.
51 And it was don, the while he blesside hem, he departide fro hem, and was borun in to heuene.
Et, tandis qu'il les bénissait, il se sépara d'eux et fut élevé au ciel.
52 And thei worschipiden, and wenten ayen in to Jerusalem with greet ioye,
Ils tombèrent en adoration, puis, le coeur plein de joie, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem,
53 and weren euermore in the temple, heriynge and blessynge God.
où ils étaient constamment dans le Temple, bénissant Dieu.
